Things get more lively as the night goes on (Picture: Beauty and the Feast)

In case you needed reminding, there are only 60 odd days, or just over two months, left until Christmas.

All sorts of good things come with the festive season – parties, present and general merriment.

Why immersive theatre is the break from reality you need right now

And then there are the pantomimes.

If you’ve ever been to a panto, you know there’s always fun, laughter and a healthy dose of innuendo that you hope the younger audiences won’t understand.

But traditionally, the family friendly panto doesn’t involve much debauchery and you generally… Read the full story

Look, if Percy Pig got an emoji-themed update, Love Hearts were always going to be next.

Yep, those chalky sweets used to not-so-subtly flirt in primary school or make fun of your mates have been given an upgrade for the tech-dependent generation.

Swizzels (the same people that make Drumsticks and Squashies, FYI) has just added 11 emoji Love Hearts to the mix, sticking the new designs into their traditional packs along with creating a Share the Love campaign.

Sadly, the Love Hearts do not feature such classic emoji as the aubergine or the poop.

Instead you’ll find smiley faces, kissy faces, the cool sunglasses dude, laughter, and, strangely, the crying emoji.

If you’re on the pill there’s no reason to have your ‘period’

If someone told you that you could go without ever having your period, without it negatively affecting your body or your future ability to have children, you’d bite their hand off, right?

Well, the thing is, you may or may not know this, but if you’re on the pill, you’re not actually having a real period anyway.

What you’re experiencing is a ‘cosmetic’ period, designed to mimic a real period, with all the fun mess and misery of menstruation, but without any purpose. It’s called a ‘withdrawal bleed’ and it’s caused by stopping taking the medication.

Why? Well, rumour has it that the chemists who developed the formula for the pill felt… Read the full story

We can’t overstate how important it is for children to see kids that look like them in the media.

Diversity in fashion campaigns, on TV, and in the pages of magazines makes sure that no one feels weird and alone – and every time a brand takes action to improve representation, that’s worth praise.

So applaud River Island, who’ve just hired their first model with Down’s Syndrome.

Joseph Hale is an 11-year-old from Cleethorpes, North East Lincolnshire. He’s featured in River Island’s autumn/winter campaign for kids’ clothing. He also happens to have Down’s Syndrome.

Joseph didn’t even need to audition for the role, and landed the job as his first ever go at… Read the full story

Bottle-feeding, nappies, a wide-eyed naivety when it comes to the pain and perils of real life… some things are best left in childhood.

Despite the media’s constant attempts to take everything dear about your younger years and make it grittier, more realistic and rally serious (looking at you, The Jungle Book), we can’t help but feel like surely some things are exempt from overzealous attempts to suck the youth out of them.

There’s a Facebook group where UPS drivers share pics of very good dogs they meet on their travels

The rivalry between postman and pooch is as old as the postal service itself.

Everyone knows there’s a mutual hatred there – dogs chase postmen, postmen leg it from dogs. It’s a tale as old as time.

One Facebook group seems to be looking to change that though, with a bunch of UPS delivery drivers looking to bury the hatchet, and sharing photos of the dogs they meet on their trips.

‘UPS DOGS’ is a pure corner of Facebook, which does exactly what it says on the tin.

#MeToo: Speaking up about sexual harassment isn’t enough – we need to speak out

Men and women need to speak out against harassment (Picture: Ella Byworth for Metro.co.uk)

‘SO if a bloke touches your bum, turn to them and say, ‘I just sh*t my pants…’ then you elbow the b**tard as hard as you can.’

I remember giving this (ridiculous) piece of advice to some girlfriends at university.

No wonder more women didn’t speak out against Harvey Weinstein – we live in a world where sexual harassment is unremarkable

2017 has been a weird year for jeans.

Let’s recap.

There have been jeans with double waistbands. Butt-less jeans. Bum crack displaying jeans. Jeans that zip from crotch to back. Jeans with a window for your butt (yes, we have noticed there’s a heavy focus on butts). Detachable jeans that transform into short-shorts at a moment’s notice. £330 jeans that look like they’re covered in mud. And of course, the jeans that may have started it all – Topshop’s clear knee mom jeans.

Liam Reid’s wedding day wasn’t exactly how he’d pictured it.

Six days beforehand, he’d shattered his left leg in a horrific accident, and was told by doctors that he may never walk again.

But Liam put on his suit, sat in a wheelchair, and got married – because nothing would stop him from tying the knot with his fiancée of five years, Jimena Vergara-Lincoqueo.

Liam had been cycling home from work when he was clipped by a car that had cut in front of him.

He landed in a heap on the side of the road, but didn’t realise just how… Read the full story

Look at them. Those perfect, circular twists of doughy, sugary joy.

Krispy Kreme has undoubtedly owned the modern doughnut scene (is a ‘doughnut scene’ a thing? It should be).

Since their initial opening 80 (!) years ago, way back in 1937, through to their UK launch in 2003 and beyond, they’ve brought glazed, American-style doughnuts to the forefront of almost everyone’s treat day.

Only there’s one group who haven’t been so lucky. The Irish.

As a regular buyer of gluten-free food, I’ve been delighted in recent years by the improving quality of the products.

However, when I look at the ingredients lists, they make my scientific brain go into overdrive.

11 things you only know if you’re gluten free

What on earth are all these things and what role do they have in my food?

As the mother of a coeliac child, I’ve decided that it’s in my interest to start finding out.

Lidl has come under fire over two sets of children’s nightmare.

The boy’s set has the caption ‘be your own super hero’ on the chest. The girl’s set, on the other hand, reads ‘Daddy is my super hero.’

This disparity was pointed out by Coronation Street actress Nicola Thorpe, who tweeted ‘Oh hey Lidl, boys can be their own heros but girls need their daddy? These pyjamas should be put to bed.’

Now obviously in the grand scheme of things this isn’t up their with war crimes or disease pandemics. But it’s not great, really, is it?

‘I’m not really sure what to expect,’ I overhear a man say nervously to the woman sitting next to him.

I can’t see him – he’s sitting behind a bookcase stacked with yoga mats – and I daren’t lean forward to peek – but I’m with him.

As, I think, are the swelling number of people who quietly turn up for the occasion.

We are at a yoga studio in Manhattan on a Tuesday evening, waiting for a Tantric speed dating session to begin. Unlike that man, who manages to break the almost tangible tension in the air with those few words that ultimately lead to conversation, I remain silent.

Vegans of London, rejoice.

Not content with wheeling out an ace new vegan menu earlier this month, Wagamama is back in the lab already, and they’ve cooked up something amazing.

It’s all taking place at The Noodle Lab, a new location in Soho, London, that Wagamama will be using to trial new recipes and dishes.

Top of the list? A VEGAN KATSU CURRY.

What’s more, it’s made with seitan too – everyone’s favourite ‘fake meat’ – rather than the non-vegan, aubergine-based veggie katsu of old.

Naming a pet is an art form.

You can go classic, and call your kitty Felix or your new pup Buddy. You can give your feline a double-barrelled name fitting of their haughty demeanor. You can, as I tend to do, stick the rule that all food-themed names are good names, such as Sushi, Biscuit, and Crumble.

When someone’s able to give an animal a truly brilliant, truly unique name, that should be applauded. Because it’s hard to stand out in a sea of Oscars and Coopers.

Take inspiration from these pets, who’ve been crowned as having some of the most unusual names… Read the full story
