Women are great, right?

No, before you start, that is not us suggesting that men are therefore bad or women are better than men.

We simply want to take a moment to celebrate women. This time around, we’re not talking about individual achievement or talent, but the genuinely lovely tiny things women will casually do for other women without being asked.

Not the big moments of support and guidance (which would take too long to list and get much too specific), but those tiny acts of kindness women hand over to other women, even if they’re not friends, even if they’re total strangers.

And yes, these are general statements, and yes,… Read the full story

It might not seem like it, but greenhouses are cool.

Honestly, they are. Now that indoor plants have become a craze, greenhouses have seriously upped their cool points. It’s now perfectly acceptable to squeal with excitement over a cacti house you can visit, or have an entire board on Pinterest dedicated to your future greenhouse goals.

As cool as greenhouses may be, though, there’s always room for them to be cooler.

A good way to do that: Lights.

Digital Vegetables, a greenhouse in Tokyo, has the right idea.

It’s a massive greenhouse filled with all kinds of plants, decked out in lights that create a show when activated by visitors.

I really don’t want children. Had I said this 10 years ago, I’d have been met with contorted faces and sympathetic whimpers from every woman in the room.

But in 2017? Not so much.

The general feeling among women seems to be one of understanding.

Who can afford to raise a child in this economy anyway?

With the political state of affairs, who would want to?

Trying to be sociable when you have anxiety is like trying to put a cork back in a champagne bottle; it’s a bad fit.

To look at many yogis’ threads on Instagram, you’d think that they’d never had a dark thought in their lives.

They’re always chomping on about positivity and matcha lattes – they don’t have time for melancholy.

Which is why it’s so incredible when IG stars like PT and fitness spokesmodel Alex Silver-Fagan are open about their mental health struggles.

Her account is dedicated to impressive handstands, candid Nike shots and beach selfies but in a recent yoga video, she’s revealed her struggles with depression.

‘I’ve been battling depression for a long time. It’s part of the reason why I escaped to Thailand for a month, this time last year,’ she writes.

The clocks have gone back today and that can only mean one thing: Christmas is just around the corner.

Ok, so maybe there’s almost two months to go but when it comes to retail, the festive season is a six-week affair.

And there’s nothing to get you more into the mood than walking down a busy London street bedecked with twinkling lights. They can melt even the most Scrooge-like of hearts.

So, when is our dreary city getting its annual twinkly makeover?

Rule number one of weddings is never upstage the bride.

For maid of honour Sharilyn Wester, however, that’s not even on the list, as she decided to photobomb her BFF in the funniest way.

When do London's Christmas lights switch on?

Photographer Ashley Hempel documented Rebecca and James Foster’s special day, taking beautiful photos of the pair. But what she didn’t bargain for, was Sharilyn’s involvement.

Hempel posted the photos on Facebook with the caption ‘Not quite what I meant when I asked for a veil toss’.

We’re all partial to an overpriced bag of grease after a night out.

But if you really want to get your fill of tasty junk food, you need to head to Cardiff.

Because the Welsh city has just been named the junk food capital of the UK, according to a new survey of 1,500 people by VoucherCodes.

Cardiff residents spend more on fast food and takeaways than any other city.

In fact, Cardiffians spend an average £86.80 a month on takeaways alone.

The UK’s healthiest eaters live in Oxford, with people spending over £900 a year on gym memberships and £1,270 on fine dining.

The internet is a weird place.

In real life, you say something nice and you generally get a nice response in return.

Online, you can share something overwhelmingly positive about yourself and you’re immediately inundated with a load of bile.

Take Lexie Manion, for example.

She’s a big figure in the body positive community, with over 30,000 followers on Instagram, and she recently shared a side-by-side post talking about confidence.

The point she was making was that plus-size women are often under pressure to make an effort to look well-dressed every day – otherwise ‘I’m seen as not trying hard enough…even more so because I’m fat’.

‘In many people’s eyes, fat equals lazy/unhealthy/gross. So it’s… Read the full story

A lifetime ago I co-wrote a late-night TV sex quiz called Carnal Knowledge.

I’d occasionally interview the specialist guests as research for the scripts.

What your favourite sex position says about you

I’ll never forget one in particular – a man who became sexually aroused by corduroy. Actual corduroy.

It was quite a tricky chat as I had to try not to say the word ‘corduroy’ because every time I did, he got more and more flustered.

After five minutes he was a sweaty wreck, frantically rubbing his palms on his trousers (which, thank God, were cotton), and I called it… Read the full story

Clear pumpkin pie exists and you really need to see it to believe it

Pumpkin pie is really the culinary highlight of the autumn season.

It’s thick, sweet, smooth – all the things a pie should be. And it’s got a limited availability, which instantly adds a degree of exclusivity to it.

But the point about pumpkin pie is that it’s very distinctive. Few puddings are as beta-carotene orange. Few are so solid when you cut through them.

So imagine the confusion when one Chicago restaurant unveiled a see-through pumpkin pie offering.

Alinea, a three-Michelin-starred eatery, has just revealed that they’re now doing tiny slices of clear pie which look nothing like actual pumpkiny pumpkin pie.

We all know what a f*ckboy is.

He’s that guy that calls you at 11.30 at night and is back out of your door again at 1am. He’s the guy that tells you how great you are in person, then takes four days to reply to your texts. He’s the embodiment of ghosting, zombie-ingfiredooring, and pretty much every other awful dating trend out there.

At times, gym classes can feel like you’re being punished for something.

So imagine what a session at ConBody – the fitness studio offering ‘prison style’ workouts – must be like.

It’s a fitness studio run by formerly incarcerated people, set up by former drug dealer Coss Marte, who was sent down for seven years at the age of 23.

Since his release, he’s managed to create a socially-conscious business that helps to get ex-cons on their feet and get New Yorkers fit.

Coss was first arrested for dealing aged 13 and by 23, he was pushing so much coke and heroin that he was apparently making millions. When he was convicted as a… Read the full story

Inside the UK’s first kids-only spa designed to help children to relax

If you think life’s tough now, just think how tricky it can be for kids.

You’ve got homework. The every looming threat of demerits. Horrible school dinners.

It’s a wonder they don’t all frazzle out before they get to high school.

So it’s just as well that someone’s set up a kids-only spa where they can recuperate from all the stress and strain of being a pre-teen.

Beauty therapist Rachel Powell opened Kandy Girl earlier this month because ‘children deserve to be pampered and relaxed as much as adults do’.

She offers children as young as three the chance to relax with a back massage and pedicure.

How depression and anxiety can make you date the wrong people

The old saying goes ‘we accept the love we think we deserve’.

It’s the kind of thing you see in cheesy Instagram posts with a quote sitting over a filtered picture of the sky. It’s probably also something your mum/aunty/nan has said to you after a bad break-up.

Halloween can be a really weird concept when you’ve been brought up Christian

These days, Halloween feels inescapable – whether you want to celebrate it or not.

It starts in about late August, when supermarkets start placing massive bags of fun-size sweets near the entrances, and goes on, tirelessly, for two months.

Gym receptions are covered in cobwebs, every TV advert has a Thriller soundtrack and pumpkins become astronomically expensive.

It’s the best marketing ploy aside from Christmas.

And loads of people love it – they literally live for deciding what to wear to various Halloween parties. But when you’ve been raised without Halloween, it can all feel a bit odd.

I never celebrated it as a kid because, apparently, ‘Christians don’t do Halloween’ (except many actually do – particularly in… Read the full story

Toxic masculinity is preventing some men from wiping their bums properly

Toxic masculinity is the idea that some men are taught how to ‘man up’ so much that they end up being kinda terrible people.

This isn’t ideal at the best of times, and ‘bro-culture’ is, in my opinion, a drain on society. But what about when it actually stops men completing the most basic of functions?

For some, it clearly is, as long-suffering partners are taking to Reddit to ask why the dudes in their life don’t know how to use the toilet or clean their bums properly.
