Black Friday, the American shopping phenomenon that has gripped consumers in Britain, will be upon us in the run-up to Christmas.

ICYMI: You can now actually have breakfast at Tiffany's

On the fourth Friday in November every year, shops descend into chaos as people flock to the high street to nab the best deals.

Black Friday 2017 will fall on Friday, November 24 this year and you will want to brace yourself early for the madness.

The biggest shopping day of the year unofficially marks the beginning of the… Read the full story

Pain, embarrassment and sloppy kisses – the dark side of adult braces

Do you hate your teeth?

Do you hate them to the point of avoiding bright lipstick, laughing, talking and smiling without lifting your hand up to cover your mouth?

Me too, and so like hundreds of other UK adults, I have traded the indignity of a crooked smile for the indignity of wearing an adult brace.

What having adult acne has taught me about beauty

When it comes to physical appearance, on the whole, I’m relatively laid back (read: lazy), being more pro-comfort than pro-looks.

I choose sleep over makeup, can’t remember the last time I wore high heels, and have… Read the full story

‘We’ve always loved cycling,’ says Betty.

‘I’ve been cycling for 69 years and my husband for 76 years. We started on the tandem soon after we met and have loved it ever since.

‘In 1949 we cycled from our home in Cornwall and back in a week. We also got to Scotland in a few days.’

How about getting married on a zip wire hanging off the side of a massive cliff?

Weddings, unless you’ve got a really active role, can be as dry as the Sahara desert.

So much sitting around and listening to folk witter on. So many family members you don’t want to know or get to know. So much holding out for food and booze.

If only there was more excitement, more adrenaline.

Like this wedding which took place this weekend on the side of a cliff in China.

For some unknown reason, a couple tied the note while hanging from a cliff face at Chaya Mountain, in the Henan Province.

It’s one thing mountain climbing wearing a suit but it must be an altogether more terrifying experience trying to scale up in a wedding gown.

Why do I keep putting myself in situations that trigger my anxiety? (Picture: Liberty Antonia Sadler for Metro.co.uk)

On the surface I look like quite a relaxed person.

But take a closer look and you’ll notice that my fingernails are bitten so badly that I’ve started to nibble the surrounding skin out of sheer necessity.

Christmas can be tough if you’ve lost a loved one.

But now thanks to the power of Twitter, people who are dreading spending Christmas alone can worry no more.

The #joinin initiative helps people on Twitter to connect with others who don’t have anyone to spend time with on one of the most festive days of the year.

Started by comedian Sarah Milican, the initiative is now in its sixth year.

‘I started #joinin four years ago. So this Christmas Day will be my fifth. It started because I’m a big softie and can’t bear the thought of people being alone on Christmas Day. And I don’t mean those who choose to be… Read the full story

Coca Cola is well known for experimenting with all sorts of mad flavours.

They’ve done Cherry. Vanilla. Coffee.

But Pepsi, on the whole, has stuck to its guns. It’s flavour variations are way less widely known than Coke’s.

So imagine the alarm that’s been caused by the news that Pepsi are launching a salted caramel edition.

It ‘blends the refreshing taste of cola with a delicious caramel finish,’ apparently, and uses less sugar than the standard flavour (which is then made up with a combination of natural and artificial flavourings).

What exactly does it taste like?

Well, according to one Instagrammer, ‘its not overpowering but it’s smooth and does well with the Pepsi flavour’.

‘Some of you will… Read the full story

Does being short ruin your sex life? Men tell us

As someone who’s 5ft 2, I’m constantly asked if I only go for taller men.

While the majority of guys I’ve dated have been above 5ft 8 (great for gigs, not so great when walking with them), I wonder if I’m being too choosy.

After all, discriminating against someone’s gender/race/religion (insert as appropriate) isn’t okay but saying you have a preference for only taller guys is widely accepted – and even encouraged.

But being a short guy isn’t exactly easy. Not only do you have to contend with women debating whether to ask your height on a dating app but women are usually forced to justify why they’re with them.

1 in 5 of us thinks you should spend twenty whole quid on Secret Santa

0

Depending on how Christmassy you are as a person you will either love or hate Secret Santa.

But whether you think it’s a lovely way to make sure everyone in your office gets a nice present, or just another unnecessary burden, you’ll probably agree that the cost of a Secret Santa present should be somewhere around £5.

Maybe just over £5. But in the arena of £5. Maybe, maybe £10 if it’s for your actual friends rather than work colleagues.

The unofficial rules of Secret Santa also state that it should be purchased hastily on Amazon at the last minute, the delivery should probably cost more than the actual item because you’ve left it really late and the items should be very tacky and largely useless.

But, according to research from Love Energy Savings, there is a section of society, 17% of it in fact, that thinks a Secret Santa should cost somewhere around the £20… Read the full story

Should we relax a bit about our children’s genders?

The Church Of England has released a statement condemning transphobic bullying (as well as every other type of LGBT+ bullying).

The upshot of the statement was this: please let your children dress-up however they want to, and don’t shame them if they choose items of clothing that don’t fit the stereotype of their gender.

This is, without question, a good thing but for a lot of people it’s been uncomfortable.

Most took it to mean that children who want to dress up in clothing that doesn’t ‘belong’ to their gender are somehow picking whether they are a boy or a girl.

It’s dangerous territory and those people are wrong.

Children should… Read the full story
