Before the internet came along, it was possible to live a life where you only talked to people you knew.

In some ways this was probably a good thing, because it meant you didn’t get strangers having screaming rows over conspiracy theories. But, on the downside, it meant that things like the story we’re about to tell you, never saw the light of day.

And trust us, you’re going to be so, so glad that it did.

A man, who goes only by the name of LearnedButt, shared a story on Reddit titled ‘I was 22 years old when I discovered that not every family has a poop knife.’

We all like to feel wanted – that’s why most of us are on Tinder.

But no human can make you feel cared for, loved and needed quite like a dog.

For dogs live to please. They rely on you for their bed and board and in return, they devote their lives to showering you with attention.

We don’t deserve dogs.

And if you ever doubted how good dogs are, you need to meet Clark the Goldendoodle.

One of Clark’s humans was enjoying a nice, hot shower when they looked down to find his little face peeping through the shower curtain.

Some people would be a little freaked out at being watched in the… Read the full story

Libraries are the perfect tools for learning and escape (Picture: Getty)

The public library is one of the last establishments you can walk into, spend an hour in and walk back out without having to part ways with your cash.

As a student, I spend hours upon hours in libraries, but when I was out of work and battling with my mental well-being – and losing – I still relied heavily on my local library.

Victoria’s Secret angels are generally considered to be as close to female perfection as humanly possible.

But even they’re not immune to the fashion industry’s fat-shaming tendencies.

Nina Agdal is a model and angel who’s modelled for various magazines, including Sports Illustrated.

She’s smokin’, obviously – many of us would kill for her body. But she says that relatively recently, she’s been rejected from jobs for nothing being small enough.

Taking to Instagram, she says that she’s ‘disappointed and appalled at the still very harsh reality’ of the fashion industry.

‘A few months ago, I agreed to shoot with a creative team I believed in and was excited to collaborate with,’ she writes.

Despite its coutless charms, Exeter, this sleepy cathedral town on the river Exe, remains a complete mystery to most outsiders.

And though it’ll never be exactly hip, well, that’s kind of a massive draw for the 127,000 people who call it home.

9 reasons you should move to Totnes, Devon immediately

Here’s a few reasons why modest, understated, but always achingly pretty Exeter will always be Devon’s only worthwhile city.

Suck it, Plymouth.

Weddings are great fun but they can also be a bit of a nightmare.

As soon as you get engaged, people are on your back with bleats of, ‘So have you set a date?’ and then when you do set a date, you’re faced with the money hungry monster that is the wedding industry.

You can also expect to pay ‘wedding tax’ for everything you’re buying because hello, hi, people love to rip you off as soon as they hear your shindig’s actually a wedding reception.

So, why not avoid all that… Read the full story

Can science improve literacy? (Picture: Getty)

In an attempt to improve children’s reading skills in the UK, the government is planning to launch 35 new ‘English hubs’ – but can we combine this with learning about science and engineering?

The success of LEGO’s Women of NASA set proves that girls want STEM inspiration

A report by the OECD found that England is the only country in the developed world where 55 to 65-year-olds did better than 16 to 24-year-olds in literacy and in numeracy.

This means the basic skills of the English population could fall behind… Read the full story

Whether it’s assault or not, women must be allowed to talk about bad sexual experiences

When I was sixteen I found myself alone in a room with a man in his late twenties. He had decided that we should have sex.

Eventually, having tried everything else, I told him I was going to start screaming if he didn’t leave me alone. He told me to stop crying, to chill out, and then legged it.

It was the first time that I had to barter with a man to take no for an answer, but it certainly wasn’t the last.

Which is why, despite having loved Aziz Ansari as much as everyone else, I wasn’t surprised to read the story of 22-year-old photographer… Read the full story

Yoga has been around for thousands of years.

It can be traced back to north India, where it began as a system of spiritual beliefs, and transformed into a physical as well as mental practice.

In the late 1800s and early 1900s, hatha yoga slowly made its way over to the west, and we were later treated to other developments of yoga, like iyengar, vinyasa and kundalini.

Fast forward to the present day and you’ve got instructors who often like to put a modern spin on things like playing contemporary music in class, bleating about weight loss benefits, and posting countless photos… Read the full story

A cliff-side pool with a glass bottom exists and it’s simply stunning.

The Edge Resort in Bali is an incredible, one-of-a-kind holiday destination located on the edge of the cliffs in Uluwatu.

It features a number of luxury villas, spas and bars and of course, the most amazing swimming pool ever.

The OneEighty pool sits 500 feet above the Indian Ocean. It’s a large, square pool that extends outwards with the edge of the cliff, with the top section of the floor having been made with nothing but glass, so that you can actually overlook the ocean as you swim.

It’s built around a stunning glass bottom lagoon set to ‘redefine… Read the full story

‘I grew up in quite a volatile household.

‘My dad was really violent towards my mum and my uncle and other men in my life were the same. So I had that from a young age.

‘And then when I was 12 I was called fat for the first time. And about two months later I had bulimia.’

Author, blogger and YouTuber Grace Victory joined us on our weekly mental health podcast Mentally Yours to talk about how, rather than stay silent about her difficult past, she’s used her experiences to connect with viewers and readers.

She said: ‘I just had eating disorders my whole life – I either wouldn’t eat at all or I would binge eat and throw up and because of never feeling safe and good enough as a child, and other sexual traumas that happened to me, I internalized all of that and that manifested itself with eating disorders and post-traumatic stress disorder as well.

Women (and men) deserve better information about contraception

What do we actually know about our method of contraception? (Picture: Getty)

I’ve been on some form of contraception, on and off, for about 15 years now, and, I STILL don’t know enough about contraception.

I’ve read up on it, done my research, talked to friends about their experiences, made appointments with my GP to discuss it, visited family planning clinics, spoke to pharmacists, and all I seem to have learnt is that no-one really knows much about contraception.

Cycling has loads of health benefits.

Commuting to work on a push bike has been shown to cut your risk of heart disease and cancer by half (and probably increases your risk of death thanks to car dooring etc but let’s ignore that for a second) and from personal experience, is great for your energy levels and mental health.

However, questions have previously been raised about the health implications of all that sitting on a saddle, namely can it cause urinary tract infections (UTIs) and erectile dysfunction in men?

Well, new research has shown that that… Read the full story

It can be fun when someone thinks you have celebrity lookalike.

There’s definitely no harm in being told you look like Rihanna or Jennifer Lawrence.

But when someone tells you your baby looks like Gordon Ramsay? Well, that’s another story.

However, it’s one that’s actually true – as one four week old baby is the spitting image of the sweary chef.

Archie Grant, from Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales, was only born last month but his parents, Sadie Evans, 28, and Ricky Grant, 24, can’t believe how similar he looks to 51-year-old Gordon.

Sick, or just a bit impractical for January? (Picture: SWNS)

Primark has come under fire for selling a pair of denim shorts for 0-3 month old babies.

A 23-year-old woman in Bristol happened upon the shorts while shopping and was horrified. She told the Bristol Post:

‘I just think they are sick. ‘I just stopped when I saw them and though these cannot be serious – these tiny hotpants are purposely sexualising babies and that is disgusting.

There is so much in the news right now about children and young girls being sexually abused and items like this and the sexualisation of babies is making it worse. Children are innocent and they should… Read the full story

A student who was struggling to afford high London houseshare prices has come up with an ingenious way to beat them – by moving in with a 95-year-old widow.

27-year-old Alexandra Knox, from Newcastle, moved in with RAF Veteran Florence Smith after starting a masters degree.

And since choosing to move in with the OAP as opposed to a group of people her own age, the pair have become the best of friends.

Just like her student pals, Alexandra splits the household chores with her flatmate, chills out with afternoon TV and even shares the occasional take away at their home in South West London.

KFC are kings of the promotional gimmick.

It often feels like they’re in constant competition with Domino’s for who can come up with the most ‘you what, son?’ publicity stunt.

In the past, KFC’s marketing bods have launched a (surprisingly decent) streetwear collection, a KFC smartphone and a fried chicken scented candle.

This time? Oh, they’ve gone big.

Men are working fewer hours than ever before

New stats suggest that British men are increasingly working part-time.

Almost one in eight men work part-time today, compared with fewer than one in 12 two decades ago, according to the Resolution Foundation.

The think tank, who put together the research, said that compared to 20 years ago men in lower-paid roles are working fewer hours or part time, while higher-paid men are working longer hours.

This change in people’s working hours has resulted in what the researchers described as a ‘hollowing out’ of the middle earners, stripping away people in the middle and leaving a wide chasm between the higher and lower earners.

We now have 70% more… Read the full story
