Are sex dolls really that problematic? (Picture: Getty)

With the advancement of sex robots and sex doll brothels, the conversation surrounding these ultra-realistic sex aids has begged the question: if women can have vibrators, why can’t men have sex dolls?

Many women find offence in them being compared to vibrators, which have become a tool of empowerment and a way to reclaim female sexuality – something that society has shunned since the dawn of time.

So, is it fair to compare the two? Speaking to Metro.co.uk, sex therapist and host of LBC’s Sex… Read the full story

Is your life being taken over by obligaswiping?

If you’re on the ~dating scene~ but haven’t met anyone exciting in months, then yes, it probably has.

Obligaswiping is the hot new dating trend, termed by Cosmo’s Carina Hsieh, used to describe the act of endlessly swiping on dating apps and flirt-chatting away with no legitimate intention of meeting up.

It’s not a deliberate waste of time. It’s not something we’re doing because it’s fun.

Obligaswiping happens because we feel like we have to be doing something – we have to making some kind of effort to find love or satisfying sex or to just ‘put ourselves out there’, but we… Read the full story

We were all pretty chuffed when Apple released an emoji update late last year that covered more human bases.

Finally, people who don’t have cheese-coloured skin tone were represented, with new emoji released that included all skin tones on the spectrum, from white to black.

However, our excitement dampened when we realised that people with disabilities still weren’t being represented.

The knife was stuck in further when it turned out that Apple had gone to the effort of making mermaids, wizards, vampires – we’r talking things that don’t exist here, people – but still weren’t bothering to represent the huge chunk of humankind.

Naked speed dating Metro Illustration Picture: Dave Anderson
Just letting it all hang out (Picture: Dave Anderson for Metro.co.uk)

This week, in the name of journalism, I was sat stark naked in a private room at The Exhibit in Balham. I was there alongside 30 other single men and women, all with their bits, boobs and balls hanging out.

Not my usual Thursday night.

No, this wasn’t the annual meeting for London’s unofficial nudist club, but the UK’s first naked speed dating event, brought to you by the 33-year-old founder of Date In A Dash, Rob Ryall.

Attention millennials: Avocados are out, pineapples are in

Pineapple is the new avocado
(Picture: Metro.co.uk)

Oh, guys. We’re so sorry, but it turns out all the money you spent on avocado toast instead of saving it for a housing deposit was a total waste.

Not because buying overpriced mashed avocado on a bit of sourdough at a restaurant is deeply stupid, but because avocados aren’t even a trendy fruit anymore.

That’s right, gang. Avocados had their time. Now it’s pineapple’s turn.

According to Tesco, demand for pineapple is at an all-time high, with sales increasing by around 15% in the last year.

That beats avocados, whose sales only increased by 10%. What a disappointment.

That being said, while pineapples are most improved, they’re not… Read the full story

Londoners were pretty happy when they were gifted with ‘Boris bikes’ back in 2010.

The cycle hire scheme – sponsored by Barclays until 2015 when Santander took over – enabling locals and tourists to hire bikes and travel between different docking stations.

Aside from a few students waking up with a sore head and a Barclays bike in their living room, it’s been a pretty tidy affair, with minimal dumped bikes.

But the latest dockless bike share schemes have seen share bikes… Read the full story

How I got married in my twenties for £9,000

If I had a quid for every time someone has exclaimed ‘but you’re not old enough to be married?’ in my direction, I’d have made an excellent return on my wedding day. In fact, I might have made a profit.

My now-husband Mudassar and I married in the summer of 2016. I was 26 and he 25. We were just a couple of months off having known each other for a decade, and had been a couple as teenagers, and again as young adults.

We were living together, we were best friends, and most importantly, we had bought a really nice sofa together. In other words, solid AF.

Just over five years ago, I found myself living in China-and, along the way, came across two of my best friends.

No, not fellow expats, but two toy poodles: Bella and Stevie.

l was still keen to explore China and beyond, so the pair often accompanied me on trips across South Asia and, in 2015, they embarked on the long journey with me back to England.

We’re still pretty inseparable, which means I often like to take them along on my holidays too.

When Dan McKernan noticed that the Hereford calf he’d rescued, Mike, had an issue with his eyes, he knew he’d do anything to help his new friend out.

He’d rescued Mike, a six month old cow, from a farm. He quickly noticed that something wasn’t right with his vision.

Dan took the calf to veterinary medics in Michigan State University, who determined that he was blind in one eye and needed surgery on the other to… Read the full story

Your relationships could have a positive or negative influence on your mental and physical wellbeing (Picture: Ella Byworth for Metro.co.uk)

Your social circle is your support network.

If you’re struggling with mental health issues, it can be difficult to manage healthy relationships with your partner, friends or family.

I speak from personal experience, having suffered from depression and anxiety for the past decade.

During this time, I’ve had to accept hard truths about some of my relationships, as well as recognise destructive patterns in my own behaviour.

Some of the people in my circle have never experienced any form of mental health problems, while others deal with these kinds of issues on a… Read the full story

The level of cute in these images is second to none (Credit: Instagram/annaleis_, rocketblast27)

The quokka is a cute little mammal native to Rottnest Island, a small island just off the shore of Perth, Western Australia.

The animal is actually a small type of wallaby, and has quickly become the main tourist attraction on Rottnest thanks to their ridiculously adorable facial expressions in selfies shared on social media.

There are around 10,000-12,000 quokkas living wild on Rottnest, and they thrive there thanks to the lack of predators.

So, there are plenty of them to go round when it comes to taking fun quokka selfies – but Instagram has recently… Read the full story

I’ll never forgive myself for cheating on my girlfriend with her best friend

I slept with my girlfriend’s best friend and I hid it for years. There, I said it.

Now, the old saying ‘the truth always comes out’ has proven itself to be correct and nothing will be the same again, for my girlfriend, for her friend or for me.

One night, my girlfriend passed out and her best friend and I stayed awake, getting increasingly drunk.

There’s nothing I can say that will excuse what happened next. It was selfish, pathetic and the details are moot. What happened shouldn’t have happened but it did. There is nothing that can be said or done to take it back.

Everyone’s got that one thing they miss when they stop eating living beings.

For some it’s bacon (try frying thin slices of firm smoked tofu), for others it’s ribs (check out Temple of Seitan’s new vegan boned ribs) and for many, it’s seafood.

You can find Linda McCartney vegan scampi and vegan prawns in supermarkets that have a sizeable veggie freezer, and Fry’s do crispy style prawns, but you know what you can’t find that easily?

Any parent with a child under four probably knows everything about the cartoon character wonder that is Peppa Pig.

Peppa is an anthropomorphic female pig and each of her friends is a different species of mammal.

The characters wear clothes, live in houses, and drive cars but still retain some of their animal characteristics. For example, Peppa and her family snort like pigs during conversations, while the rabbit family squeak and love carrots.

You get the gist, and with Easter holidays approaching now is the time to indulge their love of… Read the full story

Blackheads are the bane of any skincare obsessive’s waking existence.

Sure, no one else can notice them, and they make very little difference in the grand scheme of things, but they’re annoying.

So naturally, the minute a new hack appears to get rid of the pesky f***ers, we get excited.

Some hacks work – take skin gritting, for example.

Others do not, and that’s okay.

But some are truly terrible, and it’s really not worth trying them. That’s the case for the latest skincare trick making its way around the internet, which involves smothering your face in Vaseline, then wrapping it in cling film before you go to bed.

So you want to try some fun colour in your hair, but aren’t quite brave enough for an all over dye job.

We feel you.

Our recommendation? Baby rainbow hair.

Created by Seattle-based stylist Roxie Jane Hunt, the look relies on hand-painting on colour to create a light prism effect, applying mini rainbows around the hair.

A quick glance makes it seem as though you’re just looking at beautiful light hitting the client’s hair, but a double take will reveal that those tiny rainbows are actually painted on.

Clever, huh?

Men-only Primal Beat YogaFit Retreats in Ibiza
No, you don’t need to be able to do this… (Picture: YogaFit Retreats)

Yoga retreats are often seen as quite a feminine thing to do.

Whatever their reason for going – whether it’s to get fit, try and face a mental health issue, or get over a break-up – women seem more likely than men to book themselves onto a week of spiritual workouts for their body and mind.

Men who like the idea of a week of yoga might find the feminine associations off-putting – especially as men are more likely to brush their mental health issues under the carpet.
