The current state of housing is having a serious impact on our mental health.

Just after the ONS reported that young renters are more likely to experience loneliness and mental illness, a new study from Mind has found that housing issues can make mental health issues worse – or even cause them.

Mind surveyed 1,780 people with mental health problems, and found that four in five of them said a housing situation had made their mental health worse.

Problems with housing include unstable tenancies, unaffordable rent, damp, mould, and overcrowding, which can not only cause physical health problems but make people feel stressed and… Read the full story

We still don’t know many details about Meghan Markle’s wedding dress.

We don’t know who designed it (Ralph & Russo is the frontrunner in the predictions). We don’t know what it will look like. We don’t know if there’ll be a veil.

And the maddening thing is, we won’t know until the big day, 19 May.

The fun part of that, though, is that we’ve got a few more weeks of predictions.

And who better to hazard a guess of what Meghan will wear on her wedding day than the queen of weddings, Vera Wang?

First things first, Vera is not designing Meghan’s dress. She’s officially… Read the full story

Being a parent can feel overwhelming (Picture: Liberty Antonia Sadler)

In theory, being a stay-at-home parent should be the easy option when you’re suffering from depression.

You don’t have to worry about getting to work on time and being a proper professional; instead, you can slump on the sofa in your pyjamas and watch endless daytime TV, without the risk of bursting into tears in front of your boss.

For those not in the know, Happn is a dating app that matches you with people you’ve crossed paths with… literally.

So if you regularly walk by each other in the street but haven’t spoken to each other, the app gives you a nudge and puts you in touch. Romantic, huh?

The only trouble with this is that if you go to work each day, a lot of the people you cross paths with will be your coworkers, your office nemeses, and your boss.

Which is unbearably awkward for everyone involved, really. No one you work with needs to… Read the full story

Here are two truths about sex: the first is that most people worry about how often they do – or don’t – have sex.

The second is that most people lie about how often they do, or don’t, have sex.

I have always thought this is a shame; if we could all be more open about the frequency of hook-ups it would go a long way to ending the… Read the full story

Sanitary pads filled with dirt claim to ease period pain picture: Nannocare

There’s a new sanitary pad on the period product market that claims to ease period pain.

No, they’re not heated. They don’t have tiny particles of painkillers.

Instead they have ‘FDA approved organic compounds’ which are broken into nanoparticles and embedded into the pad through natural fibers.

The makers claim this naturally and safely releases energy that ‘helps microcirculation, resulting in a decrease of menstrual discomfort’.

It’s not clear what these organic compounds actually are. We’ve reached out to Nannocare to ask, but haven’t yet heard back.

Gynaecologist Dr Jen Gunter has an idea of what the pads are made of: dirt.

Now, at 33, Julia and her husband enjoy a polyamorous lifestyle and Julia is currently making the sweet love with seven other men.

Hear everything about Julia’s first year of polyamory – including having sex in the crown chakra – and enjoy her polite acceptance of us insisting she name her men Sneezy, Dopey etc.

GSBS:

When you had the conversation (about opening up your marriage), were you excited? Or scared? Because that is a whole can of worms you’re opening up.

Julia White:

At that time I was more excited than scared, but there came a time later when I was ‘What the f***?’

I’m re-arranging my entire life because I feel like I want to explore something.

Is that coming from a place of selfishness? Of really feeling like one d*** is not enough? Or is… Read the full story

Choose Water has come up with a way of taking the guilt out of that – with 100% plastic-free bottles, made from recycled paper.

The bottles are biodegradable and disintegrate within three weeks.

But how does a paper bottle hold liquid?

It’s got a special waterproof lining which coats the inside of a… Read the full story

Choose your lube: Why is it important and which brand should you pick?

Which lube? (Picture: Swiss Navy/Simply Pleasure/Lovehoney/ID/Sh! Women’s Emporium/Fifty & Dean/Simply Pleasure)

We’re all becoming more aware of how lube can improve our sex lives, but there’s more to it than just picking up the first bottle you find next to the condoms on a supermarket shelf.

In case anyone needs reminding, there is rarely such a thing as too much lubrication when it comes to sex.

Some people still wrongly think that if a person’s body doesn’t lubricate itself enough then they’re not excited and/or their partner isn’t putting in enough effort.

This theory is utterly wrong. Natural lubrication can vary hugely depend on such variables as hormone levels, stress and medication.… Read the full story

If you’ve ever wanted to pay over £100 for jeans that don’t even cover your bum, Carmar has got your back.

The fashion retailer has just started selling Extreme Cut Out Jeans – and ‘extreme’ doesn’t quite do them justice.

The cut out jeans basically aren’t even jeans. They’re threads of denim that you drape around your waist and legs and tell everyone they’re trousers.

Let’s stop gendering food: Burgers and steaks are not just for men

We might not talk about it but there are some foods that are considered more masculine or feminine.

Steak, for example, is seen as man’s grub, although most meat-eating women are probably partial to a bit of the juicy goodness.

In the UK, men are more likely than women to eat meat and meat products and women are more likely to eat low fat dairy products, shows research by Cambridge University.

It might make sense when you consider that men typically need to eat more food than women, as they require more calories to fuel their usually larger bodies.

Within a healthy, balanced diet, a man needs around 2,500kcal a… Read the full story

A woman has sparked debate on Twitter by posting a picture of a potentially offensive TFL sign.

London Underground staff often use the service information boards in tube stations to write funny or inspirational quotes, but some people think this particular one has missed the mark.

Dina Rickman tweeted a photo of the sign – which read: ‘Thought of the day: When you see something beautiful in someone, tell them. It may take a second to say but fr them it could last a lifetime’ – with the caption: ‘Thought of the day: why not take the time to sexually… Read the full story

Are period pants worth the faff?

Trying out period pants

Ever since I battled through an entire box of applicator tampons and managed to get one in before going swimming, I’ve stuck to internal methods of period protection.

Once I converted to tampons pads felt bulky and strange. Then I tried my first menstrual cup and fell in love (I use the Monki x Lunette one, and had some less than positive experiences with the Ziggy)

I like tampons and cups because they’re easy. You pop them in and then you can go about your day as if your period isn’t happening – as long as you ignore the cramps and… Read the full story

Fancy getting your hair cut with fire? A barber in Holland can make that happen.

Kadir Demirel, who runs Kapsalon Istanbul in Holland, has ditched the scissors in favour of an unusual technique – spraying flammable liquid on his clients’ hair and setting it alight.

A video showing the haircut (or hairburn, if you will) shows Kadir using a comb to brush his client’s hair while it is still burning and smoking.
