(Picture: Burnham-On-Sea.com)

There’s something lovely about old buildings turned into homes.

Anyone looking to buy a new home might not think of a lighthouse straight away but Burnham-On-Sea’s historic lighthouse conversion will make it an option.

Burnam High Lighthouse is a Grade II listed, 110 feet tall tower built in 1830 which has been uniquely transformed into a house with three round rooms on each of its eight floors.

That’s a pretty big, and high, house.

If you’re inviting anyone around, at least they’ll be able to spot it easily – you can’t miss it.

Wetherspoon has shocked and appalled some of its customer base by slyly removing some of their favourite dishes.

That’s right – all the hot dogs.

The new menu has also waved goodbye to the 8oz rump steak, the New York deli burger and the avocado and smoked salmon bagels.

Let’s take a… Read the full story

National Geographic has unveiled its latest cover and it’s a powerful one.

The June 2018 issue features an image which on first glance appears to be an iceberg – until you look closely and realise it’s an upturned plastic carrier bag.

The simple yet stunning image has been doing the rounds on the internet for a while, and is by Mexican artist Jorge Gamboa.

The picture illustrates the catastrophic damage we’re doing to the planet with our plastic consumption, and that our pollution problems are just the tip of the iceberg.

The new issue – guest edited by retired sailor, Ellen MacArthur – celebrates the launch of National Geographic’s… Read the full story

I was little more than bones when a doctor told me I had an incurable autoimmune disease.

My strongest memory from that day, age seven, was bawling into an oversized hospital gown and deciding I hated myself.

As a newly diagnosed Type 1 diabetic, it was not time to focus on my feelings. It was time to make sure I didn’t die and the mental health side of things was ignored.

Like most Type 1s, I was thrust into an inescapable game of life and death before I was able… Read the full story

A recent survey found that nearly 50% of teachers are struggling with mental health.

A considerable number of respondents also reported taking medication due to the stresses caused by their work.

Increased workload, emotional demand and funding cuts are all factors that could play a part in this statistic and the common perception that teachers have it easy and get too many holidays is a far cry… Read the full story

Will Meghan wear a well-known royal tiara, or will she wear an as yet unseen piece? Or break with tradition and wear no tiara at all (Pictures: Getty)

One benefit of marrying into the royal family is the opportunity to get your hands on their bling.

As a successful star with wealth of her own, Meghan is no stranger to wearing valuable and beautiful jewellery.

However, there’s something about the prospect of wearing a tiara made for a queen and passed down through generations that would turn most bride-to-be’s heads.

While it is royal tradition for a tiara to be loaned to the bride in a royal wedding, Meghan doesn’t have to… Read the full story

Can what you eat affect your mental health? (Fiona Thomas)
(Picture: Ella Byworth for Metro.co.uk)

Healthy, balanced eating involves much more than counting calories.

In fact, counting calories has barely any relation to having a nutritious diet. And a new study claims that we should probably be more concerned about where our calories come from, rather than how many calories we consume.

Published in the Obesity Reviews, the research says that those calories found in sweetened drinks (read: fizzy pop) can be particularly bad for our health.

A team of 22 researchers from different US universities found that despite containing the same number of calories, a 340ml can of sugary soft… Read the full story

We know that insomnia can play havoc with our mood and reasoning abilities (Fight Club, anyone?).

But now it turns out that just getting an insufficient amount of sleep on a regular basis can put your mental health at risk.

A recent study has found that a disrupted circadian rhythm (that’s your body’s 24-hour sleep/wake cycle) can lead to an increased possibility of developing mood disorders and lower levels of happiness.

Mess that cycle up enough and you run the risk of developing poor mental health.

In the largest study ever conducted on the subject, researchers from the University of Glasgow looked at data collected from 91,105 UK-based people listed in… Read the full story

Post-partum depression is a real issue for so many women, and it can manifest itself in so many ways.

It affects up to 15 in every 100 new mothers and symptoms can vary in severity and length. Your appetite changes, you’re tired all the time (even more than is usual for new parents), you feel low, anxious, tearful.

And it can be pretty lonely, when the whole world assumes that you’re on top of the world because you’ve had a baby.

Sweat trainer Kelsey Wells knows that feeling only too well.

The fitness guru recently shared a picture of herself from four years ago, taken just as she embarked on her fitness journey… Read the full story

Life can be pretty darn exciting when you have a balcony – especially if you’ve never been allowed on it.

Just look at four-year-old Nuka.

Here he is experiencing the outdoor world for the very first time.

‘He has never been an outdoors cat and even if it would be an option here, he’s literally terrified of everything. He’s a scaredy-cat,’ his human Essi tells Bored Panda.

Which is why Essi thought that allowing him on the balcony would be a good compromise; it’d be a chance for Nuka to experience the wind in his fur without being too overwhelmed.

‘ As long as I am with him on the balcony he’s… Read the full story

The bastardisation of yoga is something western people are very good at.

However, when it comes to animals – the purest of souls – we reckon the original yogis would be cool with it.

We can learn a lot from our ego-less furry friends, so it kind of makes sense to bring them into the studio and teach us a bit of humility.

Doga is the name of a genre of yoga that you do with your dog, and a number of classes are coming up in London.

Mahny Djahanguiri created Doga when she explored the interconnectedness between her and her BFF pooch, Robbie.
