Sometimes difficult conversations need to be had (Picture: Deirdre Spain for Metro.co.uk)

My mum died when I was three so I had a bizarre obsession with death at a young age.

If I kill myself will I be reunited with her? If my dad dies before I’m 16 will I become an orphan?

How growing up without a mum shaped me

Since his death in 2011 – thankfully I was over a decade past orphan criteria age, although I still like to refer to myself as one (got to have some perks of being parentless, no?) – I have accepted that death is just… Read the full story

A very important fancy underwear related update: After two years away, Karlie Kloss will walk the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.

This, if you didn’t know, is a fairly big deal.

Can you be vegan and eat your placenta?

Karlie Kloss has long been one of the iconic Victoria’s Secret Angels, embodying the classic angel look.

She’s walked the show four times, but after her turn in 2014 Karlie decided to take a break from modeling to attend New York University.

Karlie went on to do all kinds of cool stuff, including starting her own cookies brand (Karlie’s Kookies, if you were wondering),… Read the full story

If you’ve been on Instagram or the internet at large recently, you may have seen the super fun squiggly brows ‘trend’ pop up in your feed.

metro illustrationsSurvey finds that half of men don't know where the vagina is

We say ‘trend’ because it’s not really a trend. Squiggle brows started because a makeup artist saw a Photoshopped image, thought it was funny, and decided to use makeup to make them a thing.

That one makeup artist’s look kicked off, squiggle brows went everywhere, and while they never became an actual makeup trend, they did trend online. Which is kind of the same thing.

There are lots of lovely things about being in a couple.

metro illustrationsSurvey finds that half of men don't know where the vagina is

Companionship. Friendship. The knowledge that you’re less likely to die alone. But these benefits do come at something of a cost, namely having to share a bed for the rest of your lives.

In the olden days, when houses didn’t cost a million quid per square meter, middle class couples slept in separate rooms and only got together to do the nasty. Which might sound cold but actually was brilliant.

Let’s be honest. You’ve got… Read the full story

Picture this: you’re in the school playground with your young daughter. Another mum comes up to you and immediately starts talking about the diet she’s on and how fat she feels since having children.

Don’t get me wrong – I’ve tried dieting and I’m not keen on my post-baby belly.

Should I be happy or sad as my seven-year-old says goodbye to the infants and moves up to the juniors?

But I try my best not to talk about these things in front of my kids.

I show them how I’m trying to do more exercise. But… Read the full story

In fact they found that 31% of people who work in the city don’t get to feel the grass beneath their toes.

At the end of term, most parents are quite relieved to shrug off the school run, the packed lunches and the uniform laundry.

In fact, they probably looked forwards to the long break with the kids, booked a slew of exciting activities and were enthusiastic about the time they could spend together. I know I was.

The countless razor nicks. The horror of itchy ingrown hairs and angry red bumps after an attempt at hair removal cream. The pain of running an epilator over your underarms (never again).

From the ongoing pineapple on pizza debate, to being outright banned from one massive music festival, the spiky-haired lil’ citrus has really been put through it.

Now, though, it’s being skewered and roasted. Quite literally. Poor guy.

It’s all in aid of That Boutique-y Gin Company, who’ve launched a new Spit-Roasted Pineapple Gin. Which, in fairness, sounds absolutely delicious.

This toilet-themed restaurant is enough to put us off chocolate for life

Two years ago, we wrote about a South Korean restaurant that was themed soley around poo.

metro illustrationsSurvey finds that half of men don't know where the vagina is

The cafe featured miniature toilet cups – which admittedly looked fairly off-putting when filled with tea – a number of poo-shaped plushies, and even squat toilets re-modelled as planters.

And now, a restaurant in Taipei, Taiwan, is following in their footsteps.

Modern Toilet restaurant serves its food in miniature toilet bowls (though they’re much bigger than the ones written about before), urinals and bidets.

For a long time, only a certain type of body was celebrated in the mainstream.

There's now a calendar that's dedicated to celebrating plus-size women

Magazines displayed only super slim models on their covers, the only ‘hot’ celebs were those with a teeny waist and big breasts, and anyone that didn’t fit the norm was told to hide away or drape their bodies in shapeless sacks.

But recently things have been changing.

The body positivity movement, along with an increasing number of brands being up for using a more diverse range of models, has created a space for the definitions of beauty… Read the full story

To people who rush through life, slow walkers are the bane of our existence on earth.

They dawdle along, completely oblivious to the fact that they’re blocking the pavement and significantly lengthening the time it takes for you to nip to the post office.

They are infuriating.

And, it turns out, while they may walk slowly through Westfield shopping centre, slow walkers may be speeding towards an early death.

New research from Leicester University suggests that how slowly you walk could predict your risk of dying from heart disease at a young age. Oh dear.
