This is Linden Wolbert.

She’s the highest paid mermaid in the world and she goes around making monofins and mermaid tails to help young trainee merfolk to get to grips with underwater life.

But Mermaid Linden now has another string to her coral harp.

She’s decided to try her hand on land…

By helping to launch a range of vegan mermaid doughnuts.

We’re seeing more and more headlines about the epidemic of acid attacks, from incidents in India to news stories about men on motorbikes throwing acid as they drive by.

But what happens to the people behind the headlines? What’s life like for the people who survive acid attacks, and go through unbelievable agony, grueling recovery, and work to get their lives back after an unthinkable experience?

metro illustrationsIt's not okay to borrow money from your friends

From 13 September to 16 September, the Leyden Gallery in Spitalfields will share the stories of survivors.

The gallery will be exhibiting the IN/VISIBLE project by Ann-Christine Woehrl for the week, which captures the faces and stories of women who have survived attacks with acid.

The women aren’t from London, where headlines are currently focused, but from countries where the incidence of acid attacks is alarmingly high – Bangladesh, Uganda, Cambodia, Nepal, India, and Pakistan.

These are countries where… Read the full story

(Bloody Good Period)

The only thing embarrassing about periods is how shy we are when it comes to talking about them.

Whether it’s an awkward toilet shuffle with our disguised sanitary goods in hand, or saccharine-sweet adverts removing any mention of blood, the nation really has a problem with periods.

Powerful exhibition shares the stories of acid attack survivors

That’s why period positive charities Bloody Good Period and The Cup Effect are joining forces to host a period party.

While Bloody Good Period raises funds to provide sanitary products for asylum seekers and other women in need due to period poverty, while The… Read the full story

‘Never date anyone who’s rude to the waiter.’

It’s advice that’s almost as old as dating itself, passed down from generation to generation through excruciating parental chats and last-minute advice before you head out to meet your latest Tinder conquest.

World's highest paid mermaid has launched a range of vegan mermaid doughnuts

As time goes on, though – as with most helpful advice we’re given by our parents – we forget. Heaven forbid, more than a few of us are even guilty of rolling our eyes at a scatterbrained waiter, or getting increasingly irritated as a barman seemingly deliberately avoids us (pro… Read the full story

‘How To Make Your Dog Look Like A D*ck’ 101 (Picture: Getty)

Dogs are such sweet, blessed creatures that they’re prepared to do pretty much anything for their owners.

They’ll follow them around for miles. They’ll watch crap on TV with them. They’ll go to training school and jump through hoops just so their owners can show them off.

Your skin's probably breaking out because of your filthy sex sheets

Unlike cats and other animals, they actively want to keep us company.

And yet, we make fools of our dogs.

We abuse the fact that they can’t say no and won’t just f*ck off for days if we piss them… Read the full story

The weather’s dreary, the general happenings around the world are filling us with a deep sense of dread, it’s mid-week and the heady Sunday we spent snuggling in bed feels so, so far away.

The solution to these woes is, as always, not genuine changes in the world or quitting your job to volunteer for sleep studies, but a cute story about an animal friendship.

Cute animal friendships don’t actually fix anything, but they… Read the full story

Borrowing money off your friend is usually fine.

We all want to be the bride who got married holding a bouquet of doughnuts

Let’s say the pair of you are going out for lunch and you realise you’ve left your purse at home. No bother, you can always pay them back later.

Same goes for if your friend asks to borrow £20 until next pay day. They’re your friend, you know they’d do the same for you, and so it’s totally fine.

But you know what’s not okay? Relying on your friend financially so much that the friendship begins to… Read the full story

Weddings are long and boring.

Honestly, unless it’s your own wedding, they feel like they go on forever – without much sustenance.

National service needs to be reinstated, but for hospitality jobs

By the time any good food is brought you, you’re half cut anyway.

The pain particularly acute if you’re a bridesmaid.

You’ve got to spend the day running hither and thither after your own non-celebrity. And what time does that leave for eating? Very little.

So imagine how thankful you’d be if you were Paige Kirk’s bridal party.

Brows have been having a moment for, well, years. Maybe it’s more than a moment.

Hampers with formerly forbidden treats for new mums are now on sale

We went from pencil thin brows to gloriously bushy caterpillars above our eyes, partly inspired by Cara Delevingne, leading into a few detours into glitter brows, HD brows, and squiggle brows.

But one brow trend that hasn’t really hit the mainstream is the monobrow.

No matter how wild and free we’re told to let our brows grow, we’re still expected to keep a gap between them. The rule, apparently, is simple: Each brow can… Read the full story

Would you describe this as helicopter parenting? (Pic: Getty)

I’m pretty sure that in my mum and dad’s time parenting just had one name: parenting. Nowadays of course it’s all changed.

How you choose to bring up your kids has a name. Whether it’s attachment parenting, sleep training, extended breastfeeding or early weaning: if you choose to do any of them you’ll have a label stuck on you quicker than you can say Jack Robinson. And whatever you do someone’s going to judge you for it.
