Let’s be honest from the off, I was once a founding member of a comically named ‘Thursday Club’.

Imagine forking out on a plane ticket, spending all night packing and then arriving at the airport…only to be weighed.

In front of hoards of holidaymakers, you’re told to get your big bum on the scales.

And then airline staff jot down your sizeable weight on a clipboard so they know just how much fuel it’s going to take to lug you into the air.

You’d die of embarrassment, surely?

Hair shedding is totally normal, and if you feel like you’re experiencing it more intensely recently, you’re not imagining things.

When I was younger, I used to slag off mates who chose to hang out with dudes over their friends.

When you’re at school, your friends are your life.

They dictate what you do and when you do it. They help form your character, your interests, your views.

And for many girls (especially those stuck in single-sex schools), friends should always count for more than guys.

Then you go to uni and make more friends of the opposite sex while spending a lot of time not being sober.

You come out the other side (hopefully) more at ease with guys and eventually find yourself into a long-term relationship.

C’est la vie.

Women have a right to feel safe (Picture: PeopleImages/Getty)

The first time I was made to feel uncomfortable by a man’s behaviour, I was still in primary school.

I was at the cinema and a much older man sidled up to me as I came back from the toilet and commented on what I was wearing.

He blocked my way, leered at me and made a remark about my body and clothing which made me feel shameful, guilty and unsafe.
