Claira Hermet lost her mum Jane to breast cancer when she was nine-years-old. (her mum was 42).
Three years ago, her sister Emily succumbed to a six-year battle with the disease – at the age of just 31.
Claira, now 28-years-old, found out 9 years ago that she also carries the mutated BRCA1 gene which increases a woman’s risk of developing breast cancer from around 12.5 per cent to up to 85 per cent.
It’s the same gene Angelina Jolie carries and it’s the reason the actress chose to have a double mastectomy two years ago.
So, like Ange, Claira, who is a radio and TV presenter, elected to have a preventative double mastectomy earlier this year.
