Most trainers are just a fashion statement, but Nike’s FLYEASE sneakers are so much more.

The story begins in 2012, when 16-year-old Matthew Walzer wrote an open letter to Nike CEO Mark Parker.

Like most teenagers Matthew was a big fan of Nike’s trainers, but unlike most teens, Matthew wasn’t able to tie his own shoes.

You see Matthew – who was born two months premature – suffers from Cerebal Palsy.

In his letter, he explained: ‘Cerebral palsy stiffens the muscles in the body. As a result I have flexibility in only one of my hands which makes it impossible for me to tie my shoes.’
