Dior has unveiled a 14-year-old as its new ‘face’ of womenswear in a move that has left campaigners horrified.
The story of how Sofia Mechetner came to open Dior’s Autumn/Winter 2016 in Paris this month has been dubbed a ‘rags to riches’ tale.
The teen from a Tel Aviv housing estate, was spotted, by chance, in the Dior shop in Paris by creative director Raf Simons.
Just weeks later, she was making her catwalk debut and signing a two-year contract worth £170,000.
But what some see as a Cinderella story, other see as exploitation. Because Sofia is only 14-years-old.
Campaigners have called the appointment a ‘disappointing step back in time’.
