Don’t look on the bright side.
Everyone’s always banging on about staying positive, and keeping a sunny outlook. But it turns out they’re all wrong.
The latest video from The Science of Us shows why it’s not a great idea to always be super positive, explaining that getting caught up in positive daydreaming can derail you from actually going out and achieving your goals.
They highlight studies by Gabriele Oettingen, who – through years of research – found that people who predict negative outcomes typically perform better than those who think everything will go well.
But that doesn’t mean we should pack it all in and start thinking everything’s pointless.
The best thing, says Oettingen, is to do some WOOP-ing. Not as enthusiastic as it sounds.
