Canadian model Winnie Harlow was bullied while she was growing up because of her vitiligo, a skin condition which causes white patches to develop on her face and body.
But, these days, rather than being teased for her distinctive looks, she is celebrated for them.
Earlier this year, she was named the face of two major spring/summer 2015 fashion campaigns – for Desigual and Diesel.
Her growing fame has seen women, some of whom are white, paying homage online. They use makeup to mimic her skin condition and then post the pictures on Instagram and Twitter.
However, the trend has sparked a backlash from social media users who claim it’s a form of ‘blackface’.
