Mental illnesses often don’t come with physical symptoms, so they can be hard for people understand and talk about.
Which is why British artist Toby Allen decided draw them as cartoon monsters, complete with evil superpowers.
‘I want to make people aware of how damaging these illnesses are and how much of a burden they can be to those who suffer from them,’ he explained of his Real Monsters project.
And now, these real monsters like depression, anxiety and borderline personality disorder have been turned into cuddly toys.
Mental Illness Plushies are currently fundraising on Kickstarter and were created by Londoner Emily Monaghan using Toby’s illustrations.
