By the time I reached my 20s, I’d had three surgeries. Aged 16, I suffered with a collapsed lung and a chest pneumonia, so ended up having a chest drain for three days whilst in an intensive care unit.
Aged 19, I underwent ileostomy surgery, where my colon was also removed, having unknowingly been suffering with Ulcerative Colitis, a form of Inflammatory bowel disease. I also had my appendix removed during this time.
A few months after turning 20, I had reversal surgery to connect my small intestine to my rectum, in order to lose my ileostomy bag.
