In May of this year, Danielle Javernig discovered she had the genetic mutation BRCA1 – making her significantly more likely to develop breast and ovarian cancer.
She was diagnosed after she woke up in the middle of the night with a stabbing pain in her chest. She later discovered a lump.
Within a week of diagnosis, Danielle had to go through rounds of chemotherapy. After three months it became clear the treatment wasn’t working.
Danielle then had to undergo a full mastectomy.
