But rather than calorie restriction and running, their lean gains are carved from pumping iron in the weights room.
Fresh Fitness Food ambassador and fitness blogger Zanna van Dijk says: ‘Lifting weights has so many benefits for women, from increasing bone density to giving them a sense of empowerment.
‘However it is still clouded by outdated ideas such as “protein makes you bulky” or “don’t lift heavy or you’ll look like a man”.
Becoming ‘bulky’ would be a hard task for a woman involving ‘years of rigorous training and a mountain of food,’ she says.
