It’s crumbly, sweet, nutty and moreish.
Huge in the Middle East and Eastern Europe for centuries, halva has now made its way over to mainstream bakeries in NYC and London as the trendiest new sweet treat.
The Bulgarian staple is made from sesame seed paste, aka tahini, sugar and water (or honey), and whatever else you fancy – usually nuts and maybe something aromatic, too.
It goes well with hot black coffee as a mid-morning boost.
