Struggling? Well, according to a new study, that ready meal you popped in the microwave might be destroying your memory.
Researchers at the University of California at San Diego found a link between trans fats used in processed foods and impaired memory, particularly in young men.
The study found that guys aged 45 and younger, who ate a diet high in trans fats, were able to ‘recall fewer words’ in memory tests.
Trans fats are used in biscuits, cakes and processed foods to improve taste and ensure a longer shelf-life, and have been linked to higher levels of cholesterol and heart disease.
Researchers analysed results from 1,018 men and women who had been asked to complete a dietary survey and take part in word recall memory tests.
