Pitcairn, an Overseas British Territory, and remote island in the Pacific Ocean, has voted to legalise gay marriage.
This despite the fact the island has no gay couples wishing to marry, and only 48 inhabitants in total.
The law was actually passed in May, according to Pitcairn Deputy Governor Kevin Lynch, but the announcement has only just been made due to ‘technical difficulties’ with the website.
He said the law was ‘unanimously’ approved by the island’s council.
Local Meralda Walden confirmed the announcement had been communicated to islanders, via the usual route – a notice at the town hall and a second at the island’s general store.
