Women need more sleep, says science, but are crap at actually getting it.
Guys are much better at clocking their recommended snooze time and according to a study by the University of Surrey, nearly one in five women have a bad night’s sleep five days a week in comparison to just 8 percent of men.
But why? According to Dr Jim Horne, Director of Sleep Research Centre at Loughborough University, women need 20 minutes extra sleep a day compared to men because women use their brains more during the day.
It’s also down to hormonal fluctuations that women experience during menstrual cycles, menopause and pregnancy. Oh the hormones.
