Every story about plus size women inevitably attracts comments from people lambasting them for being obese drains on the NHS.

But what these keyboard doctors don’t seem to consider is that perhaps being larger is the healthier option for some people.

Body positive blogger Danica Marjanović is a prime example.

She suffered from body dysmorphia as a teenager when she was a size 10 – and she says she’s much happier now at a size 16.

And no, she’s not here for any health concerns.

‘I can’t tell you how many fake health concerns/bullying/ body shaming comments I get that start with “I am all for self-love BUT you should be working out… Read the full story

Feelings we commonly associate with being stoned are giggliness and a sense of calm.

And although it’s not often talked about, loads of people also report getting horny as hell after smoking weed.

It’s a very welcome side effect for most, but there is some debate over whether it actually helps or hinders your sex life. After all, whether it’s drink, drugs, or even caffeine, everybody reacts differently to different substances.

One study, published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine, found that those who smoked marijuana reported having around 20% more sex than those who didn’t. While those figures were part of a survey (meaning people might have not always… Read the full story

I love Christmas.

I’m hand-making gingerbread decorations for my tree this year. I’ve picked a colour scheme for my wrapping papers and as an only semi-lapsed Catholic I do actually love Midnight Mass and church on Christmas morning.

So the last thing I can be accused of is being a Grinch. But, all that said, we need to have a chat about Christmas eve boxes.

In case you haven’t heard of these things, a Christmas eve box is a box of presents for Christmas eve – not bought by Father Christmas or part of your ‘main’ presents but totally separately for Christ Eve.

Typically the box is filled with… Read the full story

So it’s finally happened.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have announced that they’re tying the knot.

Now I’m no royalist but even I’m excited – and not just to find out what dress she’s going to be donning (although, obv, waiting with bated breath).

People: we’re about to get our first ever mixed-race princess. I know technically she’ll be a duchess but she’s marrying a prince so I think we’re on safe ground.

And she’s marrying a redhead! Two great minorities merging into one (not that I’m biased, as a mixed race woman dating my own ginger dude…).

A mixed race, divorced, non-British actress is about to join our royal family! THIS… Read the full story

Smoking is now banned in every NHS mental health unit in England, under the terms of the Health Act in 2007.

Now some hospitals in England and Wales, and all hospitals in Scotland, are bringing in a blanket ban so there is no smoking in the grounds at all.

I feel this is cruel and unusual.

10 simple things to improve your life if you have schizophrenia

For a start, when you stay in a mental health unit – for anywhere from a few days to a number of months –… Read the full story

Given that the average UK salary is £28,758 (according to the Office for National Statistics), what’s it like living on a lower wage?

As part of Money Month, we’re opening up the purse strings to find out how people get by on much less.

We spoke to Kirran*, a 25-year-old who currently earns £16,000 as a local reporter and a further £3,000 as a freelance copywriter.

She tells Metro.co.uk: ‘My biggest weakness is food but always try to cut back on transport and clothes. I prefer experiences to things’.

This is how she manages:

My name is Jessica and I’m addicted to scented candles.

Take me into Jo Malone or the homewares section of pretty much any department store and I start to resemble a police sniffer dog, searching for the musky, delicious scent I want.

It's a great day for interracial relationships and mixed race girls everywhere

Then, this weekend I was given a bit of a wake-up call at a Christmas fair from a lovely woman who made candles (for the De Beauvoir Candle Co.). All wax is not created equal.

Paraffin wax is what most companies use to make their candles. It’s cheaper and… Read the full story

Oh, Monday, you cruel mistress.

Much of the world hates you, and just the thought of you gives many anxiety on a Sunday night.

Despite all the best intentions in the world, you’ll probably wake up late, miss the train and spill your coffee on yourself.

You’ll have to lead a meeting you’d totally forgotten about, before realising you forgot your lunch and you left your gym kit at home (for a class you’ll get charged to cancel).

Football is a rough game as it is.

But for one team, they’re deciding to challenge the racism directed towards their team and implore the FA to resolve it ‘fast’.

After spending several hours in A&E with a teammate whose nose was’‘broken in a vicious assault and intentionally head-butted during a football game’, a FC Peterborough player felt compelled to share on Facebook that it wasn’t merely an isolated incident.

Zahid Hamid, finance professional and player said this wasn’t the first time the team have faced incidents against them.

Rejoice cheese lovers.

We already know that cheese may be a superfood and there’s even a cheese festival.

But if you’ve always wondered which fromage comes up trumps, you can settle this crucial debate once and for all.

Forget Halloumi, brie or even an Italian obscure brand because the best cheese has been named.

And surprisingly, it’s British.

Cornish Kern has been given the top accolade at 30th annual World Cheese Awards in London last week.

The alpine-style cheese made by the UK’s Lynher Dairies Cheese Company is a relative newcomer, given that it’s only a few years in development.

The medium-hard buttery cheese which has caramel notes was given the trophy among… Read the full story

Divorce. It is one of the most difficult and stressful of life events, and is faced by thousands upon thousands of us each year.

In spite of the statistics, I never thought I’d be one of them. Until, after nearly nine years of marriage, I was.

In 2016 over 106,000 opposite-sex marriages ended in divorce. But what happens next? How do we pick up the pieces and start again?

The thing with living in the UK is that although we know we have autumn every year, we’re still never quite prepared for it.

The number of train journeys delayed or cancelled because of leaves on the lines is quite astounding. There are leaves on the line every bloomin’ year – how is this still a surprise to you, train companies of England? How is this still a surprise?

However, I take a hypocritical stance there, as I personally am taken aback by the rain. Every. Single. Year.

One of the hardest to come to terms with has been fibromyalgia.

What is fibromyalgia? Everything you need to know about the chronic condition

Some people are hit with a diagnosis suddenly. This can be incredibly shocking and scary.

A diagnosis of fibromyalgia is the complete opposite; some people have symptoms for years, with doctors working through different diagnoses, hunting for the right label.

‘I think the main thing is to acknowledge it – you don’t have to fix somebody but just be kind.

‘I think the main thing is kindness, to say ‘I’m sorry’, not to turn away.

‘Often people say bring food but I think it’s mainly (important to) be present.’

Julia Samuel MBE gave her advice about how to support someone who is grieving the loss of a friend or relative.

5 reasons why everyone needs to start talking about death

The psychotherapist and author of Grief Works: Stories Of Life, Death And Surviving, joined us on our weekly mental health podcast, Mentally Yours.

She said: ‘What I think people find difficult is where people don’t know what to say so they don’t say anything at all and then there is this big elephant in the room that is never discussed or voiced.

‘People feel lonely when they’re grieving anyway, you know they… Read the full story

Pregnancy is a pretty nerve-wracking thing to go through at the best of times.

Growing a human inside of you for nine months is not only painful but if it’s your first, you haven’t a clue what constitutes as normal.

Added to that is the fact that as soon as it becomes obvious that you’re with child, the world and his wife want to share their opinions and experiences.

Which can prompt mums to start comparing their bumps without stopping to consider that no two bumps are the same.

Even on the same person.
