Bao-om!

Chinese steamed bao buns are having a bit of a foodie moment.

From the Yum Bun,  who are regulars at Street Feast in Dalston, to Bao, who recently set up shop in Soho serving their delicious Taiwanese take on the bun.

But while we love munching these squishy treats, we’ve always assumed they would be basically impossible to make at home.

Apparently we were wrong.

Tom Cenci, Head Chef at award-winning restaurant Duck & Waffle told us: ‘A steamed bun is very traditional to Asian cooking, and making them is not nearly as daunting as you’d imagine. In fact, they’re really pretty simple.

Best of all, you can serve them with almost anything. I love to serve with mine with a dollop of special… Read the full story

This little girl really went for it when she got to pose with an owl.

She’s totally got this.

And because the internet knows a star when they see her, she’s now inspired countless memes.

The original picture was posted to Reddit earlier this week with the comment ‘Girl unhappily holds an owl’ (although nothing about that pose says unhappy to us).

14 of the funniest parents on Facebook this week

The baby peed on your clean trousers, the toddler coloured the wall and the teenager is whining because their favourite shirt isn’t clean yet. Sometimes it seems like we parents can’t ever catch a break.

If there’s one thing we’ve learned over the years, it that the only surefire way to survive the challenges of parenthood is to find a way to laugh through them.

If you’re struggling to find the humour in your situation, why not let these parents give you a hand?

Spoiler: The big man cries, and you probably will to.

Dana Griffin-Graves and her husband Arkell had given up on having a family of their own.

The couple, who had been trying to start a family since they wed 17 years ago, suffered four miscarriages and a devastating still birth at six months before deciding that they could take the heartbreak no longer.

Talking to ABC 8 News, Dana explained: ‘It was definitely a struggle, a roller coaster with emotions… I just got to the point I was like, “you know what, I wanna stop trying”.’

Little girl just discovered Adam Levine is already married and she is devastated

This little girl is all of us when we discover our celebrity crush is already married.

Because otherwise we were totally in there, right?

A video clip uploaded to YouTube this week shows mum breaking the devastating news to little Mila that Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine is already married.

And Mila is definitely not okay with that.

Of course, if we could only have five minutes with Mila, we’d explain that she could do better. He has unfortunate taste in knitwear for a start.

Still, we can’t help who we love, can we?

Chat-up lines from around the world that are so bad they might be good

Classic line (Picture: METRO/Getty)

No one ever deserves to be on the receiving end of a chat up line.

They’re cringe-worthy, make everything awkward and rarely ever work.

This is as true around the rest of the world as it is in the UK, as this from Cut Video shows.

A man from New Delhi goes straight in for the very un-PC line ‘Is your father a terrorist? Because you look [the] bomb.’

Oh dear.

Things get vulgar in Bogotá: ‘Get my cement to harden so I can sculpt a monument of you.’

Here’s what happened when I used Craig David lyrics as chat up lines on Tinder

And some classics are universal: ‘Do you believe in love at first sight, or should… Read the full story

Maybe you shouldn’t always ignore randoms (Picture: Facebook)

Who needs Tinder?

Just over three years ago, then 53-year-old Kasey Bergh had come to terms with the fact she might never find love again, six years after her divorce.

But then, while on a business trip in Denver, she accidentally sent a text to a complete stranger and all that changed.

With her colleague’s inbound flight delayed, Kasey sent a text about a meet-up to what she thought was another work acquaintance’s number, but it actually went to then 23-year-old Henry Glendening.

While most people would have ignored the message, Henry decided to reply, saying if he wasn’t already headed to work, he’d be ‘down to hang ;)’

Forget snakes on the plane, soon it could be shih tzus.

Ryanair – the low cost airline everyone loves to hate – is either about to go drastically up, or down, in your opinion.

That’s because they’re currently mulling over the idea of whether or not to allow small dogs on their short haul flights.

And when we say on the plane, we mean in the actual cabin with you.*

Chief commercial officer David O’Brien said: ‘We are open to lots of suggestions… It’s one we’re looking at.’

He went on: ‘It could be quite difficult. What makes one person happy would make another unhappy.’

Er… you don’t say.

But as the saying goes, forewarned is… Read the full story

Brooklyn based artist, Erin Riley, is trying to reclaim female sexuality by weaving tapestries of women taking nude selfies.

It’s an unusual contrast of a very traditional medium conveying a totally modern phenomenon, but it works incredibly well.

Riley got her first sewing machine when she was eight, starting her life-long fascination for textiles and all things cloth.

In 2009 she began this series on nude women.

She told Metro.co.uk: ‘I was inspired by how women were starting to live their lives online in a sexual manner and the backlash or support that was given.’

We don’t want to panic you but the world might be running out of coffee

latte art pouring coffee gif

An Italian coffee giant has warned a global coffee shortage might be on its way.

We know, what of the pumpkin spice lattes?

Andrea Illy, chairman and CEO of Illycafe told Bloomberg that increased consumption, particularly in emerging markets, means we’d need an extra 40 million to 50 million bags of coffee in the next decade to keep up with demand. That’s more than the entire crop of Brazil.

The situation is worsened by climate change and low prices.

‘Sooner or later, in months or years, we’ll have to make a bold decision about what to do. We don’t know where this coffee will come from,’ Illy said. Okay, try to breathe.

Climate change means farmers in Brazil could lose a quarter of their output, while those in Nicaragua, El Salvador and Mexico also face losses if they don’t adapt.

At the same time, we’re all drinking… Read the full story

The folks of Tunbridge Wells have obvs watched Clueless one too many times

Bless their cashmere socks.

Tunbridge Wells has lived up to its reputation as a well heeled and totally out of touch bastion of Britishness by going full on Cher Horowitz with some utterly clueless donations to Syrian refugees.

Totally inappropriate items donated by residents of the royal town included china tea sets, tennis rackets, stiletto shoes, ball gowns, hot pants and a beer hat.

For real.

Valentina Osborn, founder of aid organisation RefugEase, said: ‘We are so incredibly grateful for all the donations that we received – it was like a lifetime’s worth of Christmases in four hours.

For parents of premature babies, those early weeks, months and years can be a very scary time. Babies born early can face long and difficult journeys to full health.

It can mean long periods spent in hospital hooked up to machines.

Which is why Quebec photographer Red Méthot’s ‘Las Premas’ (The Premature Babies) photo-series is so powerful.

Forget getting clean in the bath, the Waterslyde will make bath time real dirty

Ahoy there! (Picture: Waterslyde)

Bath time just got a whole lot more, er, stimulating.

We’ve just discovered a brand new sex toy, and it’s quaintly innocent and incredibly rude all at the same time.

The Waterslyde is a pink plastic ‘water diverter’ which a lady can tie on to her bath tap to ‘divert’ water to her… well… lady bits.

Ok, let’s rewind.

A long, warm bath is one of life’s simple pleasures, but apparently for some ladies, a simple soak is not quite pleasurable enough (if you catch our drift).

The miracle of life might be a beautiful thing but watching a baby come out of a lady ain’t pretty business.

YoutTube channel Facts captured the brilliant reactions of some Irish guys as they watched childbirth for the first time.

They might have been expecting ‘a lot of blood’ but they were definitely not prepared for what was to come.

Lots of screaming and pain grosses them out in the first five seconds (don’t worry you don’t actually see or hear the childbirth in the video).

This guy was genuinely terrified by the whole situation, just look at that face:

Stunning pictures capture the meeting of tribal tradition and consumerism

Tribe fashion, Omo Valley, Ethiopia - 2013

The world of international consumerism has slowly made its way to the Daasanach region, home to traditional Ethiopian tribes.

Mass produced products, particularly those made in China, are readily available all around us. And they have now made their way to the tribes, changing the traditional attires in Ethiopia.

This is what photographer Eric Lafforgue noticed during a visit in the southern part of the country back in 2013.

Tribe fashion, Omo Valley, Ethiopia - 2013

He set out to capture these changes through his pictures.

‘Their creativity in mixing foreign and modern styles with traditional tribal attire has given them a unique look,’ says Lafforgue.

Rainbow hair is great and everything, but it’s got nothing on tie-dye.

The fashion world’s obsession with the 1970s has shown no signs of abating at the SS16 catwalks.

It was only only a matter of time before the decade started to influence hair styles too.

And there’s few things that scream 70s as much as tie-dye.

Hair stylist DJ Victory is the genius who’s created a way to get the incredible looking tie-dye effect.

Lucky for us, she decided to share the secret to beautiful multi-coloured locks with the world.

How to tie-dye your hair:

This definitely requires a very trusted friend and a few tools, most of which you’ll find in your kitchen.

Like icing bags.

If you’re forgetting your Ps and Qs then you should take a lesson from this cat.

The cat, who just wants to be stroked, is courteous of the fact his owner is quite obviously busy, and taps her on the shoulder and waits for her to pet him (or her).

Over, and over… and over.

It’s the cutest thing I’ve ever seen.

And even if you’re not a cat person, you’ll love this.

How do you teach a cat these things?!

When you’re young and living under your parent’s roof, moving out can sound like a dream come true.

The idea of not having to tidy your room all the time, being able to get up and go to bed want you want to, and of course the fact that you can have house parties whenever you want. How exciting.

In reality, it doesn’t work like that. Not even slightly.

Here’s what actually happens, and what you’ll completely understand if you rented a place in your teens. You become a tidier a person.

1. You become a tidier person

Believe it or not, once you’ve been living in your new place for a while, the last thing you want to do is come home to a really messy place.… Read the full story

Once again sugary fizzy drinks are under scrutiny for being the harbingers of weight gain.

You might not have been surprised to find out that a single can of coke has 9g more than your daily allowance of sugar (which is 30g-a-day). Nor that a single Mars bar has a shocking 46g of sugar.

But what about the foods that are meant to be good for you, hyped in some cases as miracle workers. Well we have some bad news for you.

Here is a list of foods you may not think are unhealthy….but have more sugar than you think.
