It’s not quite what you expect (Picture: Getty/ Metro.co.uk/mylo)

There’s something about semi-rural counties that gives them an identity that’s often lacking in more urban areas.

Perhaps it’s to do with being so isolated, or maybe it’s because you really are forced to make your own entertainment with the nearest big city at least an hour’s drive away.

Shropshire is unusual in that it doesn’t have a single city within its boundaries.

Its county town is ancient Shrewsbury while its industrial heart… Read the full story

The Christmas holidays are coming and all across the land, kids are getting more and more hyper at the thought of escaping school and embracing two weeks of freedom, presents, chocolate and parties. And teachers are just as excited for that hard earned half term break.

Any educator will tell you that planning and routine fly out of the window in that festively excitable last week and attempting to deliver lessons and get any depth of hard work out of your students is an overly optimistic and futile endeavour.

If you’ve been a teacher, you will recognise these 18 struggles that anyone at the chalkface faces in that week like no other:

Don’t let the cold weather get to your skin.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas but the downside of winter is that the cold weather is really taking its toll on our skin.

There's a new gender gap in town and it involves Wikipedia

Although our bodies are usually safely tucked away under several layers of clothing when we’re outside, it’s really important to not forget that it still needs care and nourishment.

Dad turns baby daughter's sleep suit into the cutest NASA space suit

We all know someone who can’t hold their drink, or is constantly on a diet, who who secretly doesn’t like wine and just drinks it to seem classy but wishes they could be sipping on a Malibu and pineapple.

Yes, you could just give them a smaller glass of wine. But where’s the passive aggressive fun in that?

Not to say that the glass needs to be a gift. Why not get a set for your own home? It’s perfect for the end of the night, when you’re definitely going to go to bed but you just want one… Read the full story

The gender gap is real, and anyone who denies it is probably…a man.

We’ve got a gender pay gap, a gender oral sex gap and even a gender pocket money gap.

But there’s a new gap in town – the gender Wikipedia gap.

According to a report by the BBC, only 17% of Wikipedia’s English language entries are about women, and only 15% of their volunteer editors are female.

It doesn’t take a genius to realise that it’s men writing… Read the full story

It’s so easy to get lost in a whirlwind of self-loathing. Constantly feeling as though you’re never going to be good enough. Not just for other people but for yourself.

How well do you know sex in 2016?

We get so lost in the idea that we must all strive to have this perfect body, that we will only actually reach said ‘perfection’ when we hit a certain number on the scales. Yet once we hit that certain number, we set ourselves another goal.

It’s easy to go from healthy-living to total obsession, or from disliking a tiny part of yourself to full-hatred of every part.

It’s terrifying – and it is something body-posi blogger Kathleen, aka @fallingintoselflove, has highlighted in a recent post on her Instagram page.

shut-up

These awful people are everywhere.

Some people are good. Some people are bad. Some occasionally get on your nerves.

But there are a few people out there who are seriously annoying.

I am not saying that I am perfect.

I have many habits that others may find really, really irritating.

For example, I leave cupboards and drawers open and pack freshly laundered socks away without putting them into pairs (who has time for that?).

But there are some people who are simply the absolute worst and you definitely know at least one of them.

1. People who actually say ‘lol’. If something is funny then why not just laugh out loud?

2. People who say OMG out loud instead of ‘oh my God’.

3. People who text you ‘???’ if you don’t reply to their message straight away.

Dark winter nights and mornings, coupled with busy festive social schedules and a pre-Christmas work rush equals some very fatigued faces.

Experts reckon we need between 7-9 hours of solid kip a night, that women need more than men and some even suggest we should be sleeping twice a day!

As everyone knows, the internet isn’t always the best source of verified information. Not so in the case of this Reddit ‘ask me anything’ session. The thread features a Q&A with sexpert Dr. Jess, a keynote speaker, television personality, host of the Sex with Dr. Jess podcast, and the resident sexologist for Astroglide. Dr. Jess has a PhD in human sexuality.
