It’s Coeliac Awareness Week with seven days dedicated to raising awareness of the disease.

Coeliac Awareness Week 2017: 18 delicious gluten-free recipes you should try

While many may have heard of the disease, there is still a way to go before gluten free options are available in restaurants and other places people eat out.

That means hundreds of Coeliac sufferers are not getting access to the options they need – making normal activities like eating out with friends much more difficult.

Here is everything you need to know about the disease including symptoms and how it… Read the full story

Want a baked good that’s more ‘you’ now that you’ve made your fortune?

Introducing the ’24k gold magic dossant’, the love child of a croissant and doughnut (which we thought was a called a cronut, but hey) frosted in 24-carat gold.

A creation of Goldeluck’s Bakeshop in Australia, the bakery claims to have created the ‘world’s first croissant-doughnut to be made with real edible gold’.

You might have been dismissed as a nerd at schools but being a bookworm has its benefits.

It’s great for developing an expansive vocabulary, developing a vivid imagination and generally making you more literate.

And now it’s been suggested that reading fiction can make you kinder and more empathetic.

A study by Kingston University looked at 123 people’s preference for books, TV shows and plays before testing their interpersonal skills.

And researchers found that readers were more likely to act in a more socially acceptable manner than TV lovers.

Poached eggs are the one thing that makes this confusing, mess of a world worth living in.

Metro IllustrationsDon't underestimate the power of professional friendships

Which makes the latest egg-related food trend, ‘cloud eggs’, ever more distressing.

There were once fried eggs, scrambled eggs, poached eggs and deviled eggs (though I’ve never figured out what they are), but cloud eggs exist in some dark limbo in between all of these things.

Apparently, cloud eggs are made by separating the egg yolk from the white and whipping the latter to create a thick, fluffy consistency.

Gluten-free products sit on display for sale at a supermarket in Princeton, Illinois, U.S (Picture: Getty)

This week is Coeliac Disease Awareness Week, which aims to raise awareness of coeliac disease and the gluten free diet.

There is a difference between being gluten intolerant and having coeliac disease – for those unaware of the differences, here’s the lowdown.

Coeliac disease isn’t as common as gluten intolerance

Just 1% of the UK population have coeliac disease, while gluten intolerance could affect up to 13%.

2-3 times more women than men receive a diagnosis of coeliac disease.

It’s not easy to diagnose either condition

Sparkly Prosecco, blue Prosecco, Prosecco-flavoured nail varnish; as long as it has those eight letters and sparkles, we’ll inhale it all.

But our love of the drink isn’t without its consequences; not only was there a Prosecco shortage a couple of years ago, but our obsession with it means we cast other once-loved sparkling wines by the wayside (remember Cava?)

Which is why Forbes’ wine writer Nick Passmore has said that we should ditch 2017’s favourite tipple – which… Read the full story

Apparently your perfect lip colour is one that matches your nipples

Most of the time, hot new beauty advice involves something expensive.

Mental Health Awareness Week: How to help your partner if they have a mental illness

In this case, you don’t need to make a face mask which combines yak’s milk, yellow algae and a virgin’s eyelashes.

In fact, you don’t need to do anything at all, other than wapping out a nip.

That’s right. Apparently, if you’re hoping to find the perfect lip colour to flatter your skin tone, you need look no further than the contents of your own bra.

The concept was discussed on US show Doctors TV.

Who knew?

Anecdotal research around the Metro.co.uk office would suggest that yes, broadly speaking, our nipple colours would probably make quite nice lipstick colours. My own nips are in fact a very good match for Charlotte Tilbury’s Bitch Perfect.

Emma Watson won an award last night.

Specifically, she won the MTV Movie Awards’ first ever non-gendered award for acting.

You’ll remember Emma Watson from Harry Potter, The Perks of Being a Wallflower and being a total feminist badass.

EW can do more for equality before she’s brushed her teeth in the morning than many of manage in an entire year.

So it pains me that I can’t join in the triumphant headlines, celebrating her historic non-binary award win.

I can’t help but wonder what good the erasing of gender roles in award… Read the full story

Dying Matters Week takes place from May 8-14, and aims to raise awareness of the importance of talking about dying, death and bereavement.

This year, the question being asked is What Can You Do? The aim is to get people more active in planning for dying and death, and helping to support those who need it when they’re grieving the loss of a loved one.

There’s nothing quite like being a serial monogamist to earn you the wrath of your feminist friends.

Tell them you’re onto the next guy and they’ll roll their eyes at your apparent lack of modern day independence.

Emma Watson's win is great, but realistically we still need gender based awards

Which is why whenever I’m accused of serial monogamy, I immediately jump on the defence.

‘Of course, I’m not a serial monogamist; I don’t need a man to make me feel complete,’ I’ll argue. The truth is, however, that I probably am one.

Serial monogamists (SMs) are people who find themselves jumping from relationship to relationship, without giving themselves a breather. And female SMs are often seen as particularly pathetic creatures who simply cannot survive without someone else being there to provide them with succour.

Only…that’s absolutely not true. For most of us, these relationships happen by accident. The right person around… Read the full story
