21-year-old Amy Thompson and her parents Pete and Sharon, from Solihull, recently lost their ten-year-old dog to cancer.

The Thompson family had had Archie since he was just 4 months old.

At the age of 10, Archie fell ill, and was really poorly for a couple of weeks.

‘At first doctors thought it was a stomach infection, then a kennel cough, and on Friday the 27th I received the dreaded phone call that it was cancer and he had days left,’ Amy told Metro.co.uk.

When a terrorist attack happens, I go through the same emotions as everyone else: shock, concern, fear.

But moments before they reveal the perpetrator of the attack, I’m also filled with dread.

Why? Because I’m secretly hoping with all my heart that it’s not someone who claims to belong to my faith.

Let me be clear: As a Muslim woman, I’m not a victim in this – the victims of the attack are. Their families and loved ones are. Our priority should be hem.

But whenever a terrorist is revealed to be Muslim, I know I’m about to face a new wave of backlash.

Although I don’t have any obvious markers… Read the full story

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a condition that needs to be talked about more.

It’s responsible for weight gain, randomly spouting hair, irregular and painful periods.

It affects as many as one in 10 women – with fitness stars like Alice Liveing (AKA Clean Living Alice) admitting to suffering from it.

And because little is done to promote women’s health or look into female specific ailments, few of us know that these kinds of conditions are actually very manageable.

You might not be able to cure it but you can reduce the symptoms to such a degree that they need not impact on your life.

Enter: Clare Goodwin, the PCOS Nutrionionalist.

We met at the Be:FIT weekender where she was giving a talk on how food and hormones work together to reduce and heighten various ailments, from IBS and bloating, to more chronic conditions.

What is PCOS?

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome is where your hormones (especially… Read the full story

Ask me to list off some overdone gimmicks this year, and mindfulness and virtual reality would definitely be in the top ten.

Both are wonderful things. Mindfulness is helpful to loads of people’s mental health. Virtual reality is an incredible piece of tech that has benefits ranging from overcoming phobias to playing truly excellent games.

But over the past year I’ve seen both tacked on to an endless array of treatments and trends for no reason other than a catchy term to reel in customers. I’ve had virtual reality used to sell pizza. Starbucks have themed their Christmas cups around mindfulness.

So when I heard about a mindful touch virtual reality facial,… Read the full story

Where the cheese in a burger should actually go, according to an expert

Usually, nobody really cares about what order their burger is handed over in.

As long as it’s got two burger buns on either side and a patty in the middle – with cheese, of course – everyone’s happy.

But Twitter user Thomas Baekdal has stirred the pot a little, after sharing a side-by-side image of two different emoji burgers.

Basically, one comes from Apple, and features a burger with cheese placed on top of the burger, and the other comes from Google, and sees the cheese placed underneath.

And alas, #CheeseGate was born (well, sort of, we just made it up actually).

If you’ve got a Stranger Things fan in your life, you need to buy them this Eleven-inspired, nose bleeding candle this Christmas.

The Eleven Bleeding Nose Candle comes from Firebox, and features a white, ceramic ornament styled into the face of Eleven.

The ornament is meant to hold a red candle – or any coloured candle of your choice, really – which burns down through Eleven’s nose, making it just like she’s had a nosebleed – much like the ones she continues to have in the Stranger Things series (don’t worry, there’s no spoilers here) whenever she uses her powers.

It’s not exactly easy being a woman of colour today.

Not only do advertising agencies keep missing the mark on representation, we’re also exposed to more toxic chemicals  in our beauty products than our whiter counterparts. Plus we have to contend with being under-represented in senior positions at work.

Add travelling to the mix and that can be even more of a minefield.

We’ve already talked about the importance of separate spaces for people of colour but what about the larger experiences of women of colour when travelling?

We chatted to British women of colour to find out what it’s like to travel to places where your skin colour affects the… Read the full story

The only problem is, hen and stag parties have started to get really *extra*.

We’re no longer expected to just throw on some tacky sashes and hit the town for the night, it has to be an extravaganza. There needs to be at least two nights, and nine times out of ten it needs to be abroad.

Taking too much on was a big mistake (Picture: Liberty Antonia Sadler)

After a string of big life events and unprecedented work related stress, my brain stopped working.

I couldn’t function with the amount of pressure I was under and my mind simply said ‘no more’.

Why I refuse to tell new employers about my mental illness

I was deemed unfit for work and so for six months I was unemployed.

After counselling and medication, I was advised that part-time work was the best option for me, and I was desperate to get started.

Blame Kylie Jenner – lip injections have been having a real moment.

But new reports suggest the trend isn’t just for women obsessing over the size of their lips thanks to the cool kids on Instagram. There’s been an increase in the number of men opting for lip fillers, too.

Dr Rian Maercks, a plastic surgeon in Miami, told Daily Mail Online that he’s noticed an uptick in men asking for ‘macho mouth procedures’ – that make their lips more plump without making them look too feminine.

Dr Maercks refers to this procedure as ‘menjections’, and explains that rather than wanting pillowy lips like Kylie Jenner, men are asking for… Read the full story

Hot chocolate is a couple-y drink. It’s warm and cosy and made for sharing with someone you love.

So it makes sense, then, that one man used a cup of the stuff to propose to his girlfriend.
