Carly Rae Jepsen can sing ‘call me maybe’ all she likes, but Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks were right about the real deal being ‘you’ve got mail’.

Scientists from Indiana University have finally caught up with the iconic 1998 rom-com to prove that the best way to tug at someone’s heart strings is a well composed email.

The researchers were surprised when they found that recipients were more aroused by romantic emails than voicemails.

Alan Dennis and Taylor Wells, the authors of the study, wrote: ‘When writing romantic emails, senders consciously or subconsciously added more positive content… Read the full story

A male model felt so under pressure to keep his locks looking thick and healthy that he spent six years taking a hair loss prevention drug that causes sexual dysfunction.

At the age of 21, Giorgos Tsetis was in demand from fashion brands like Armani, Versace and YSL, and modelling in fashion capitals across the world, when his hair began to fall out.

‘It’s common in men’s modelling and a very big concern,’ the model, now 30, told Mashable. ‘There’s isn’t even a handful of models who hair is receding, so to have a full set of hair is a prerequisite in landing any job.’

Researchers from the University of Wisconsin-Madison have challenged the popular myth that some of us have a sixth sense when it comes to dating, otherwise known as ‘gaydar’.

For those who think they can spot the difference between a homosexual and a heterosexual, think again – it turns out gaydar doesn’t exist.

The study, published in the Journal of Sex Research, found that when people use… Read the full story

YouTuber and comedian Nicole Arbour isn’t afraid of causing offence. Last month, she ranted about Insta-models filling her feed with their ars*s. This month, she’s directing her ire at fat people.

Last week, she posted a video called ‘Dear Fat People’. On her Facebook page, she captioned it: ‘This is what we’ve all wanted to say to fat people’. The controversial clip led to her YouTube account being temporarily suspended, following a backlash led by other social media stars.

Nicole begins the six minute rant by saying ‘Fat shaming is not a thing. Fat people made that up. ‘That’s the… Read the full story

As teeny tiny as newborn babies are, you still sometimes find yourself thinking ‘how the heck did it fit in someone’s stomach?’

That is one of the reasons behind Dutch photographer Marry Fermont‘s beautiful newborn photos, taken just seconds after birth.

She takes pictures of the babies, still in the foetal position, to give new parents an insight into how their baby lived and grew in the womb for nine months.

She said she started doing it after documenting her first birth. She explains how the midwife present at the birth showed the parents how the baby was curled up inside. She’s been asking midwives to do it ever since, wherever possible.

Because we’ll NEVER get tired of re-imagined Disney princesses.

Illustrator Joel Santana has come up with another modern iteration of our favourite Disney princesses, giving them pin-up girl makeovers complete with tattoos, corsets, and pink-streaked hair.

He’s only created three so far, but we’re hoping he’ll do ALL the Disney princesses we love. We need to see Esmerelda with tatts.

Sharing his creations on Facebook, Santana says he’s already working on a tattooed design of Aladdin’s Jasmine. Which we’re VERY excited about.

Here’s Ariel, rebelling against her strict Dad by getting inked. She’s stayed true to her underwater roots, though, with a crab tatt and some musical notes.

Let’s be honest, who HASN’T swiped right on a dude on Tinder purely to get access to his puppy? (No, this is not a euphemism).

James Shamsi, the guy behind the Kardashian-blocking app and a Tinder-based job search, has just released #Puppify, a new app that operates on one simple mission statement: ‘b*tches love b*tches.’

Yep, it’s an app that lets you Photoshop cute puppies into all your Tinder profile photos.

James says he was inspired to create the app after experiencing the power of puppies first hand.

He told metro.co.uk: ‘My friend bought a puppy, then my friends and I took a few selfies with it. Shortly after, we… Read the full story

Not good. (Picture: Instagram/Valentino)

Valentino is at the centre of a bit of an Instagram sh*tstorm today, after they posted a photo of some fancy shoes arranged in what appears to be a Swastika.

Oh dear.

The fashion house photographed two pairs of their new AW15 boots by Celie Birtwell, laid out upon a bed of rose petals. All really pretty, especially with the boots’ floral print. They wrote: ‘Some shoes deserve a bed of roses. #Fall15 booties flower print by Celia Birtwell’

The only (major) problem: the shoes were arranged in a Swastika-esque design. And people noticed.

Whitstable manages to be charming and dirty at the same time… (Picture: James Duncan Ross/Getty)

It was once known as the Garden of England, and even though it has lost the title now, you have fond memories of a bucolic childhood – taking long walks in Bluebell Wood and summer days at Minnis Bay.

There was Howletts Zoo, the Whitstable Oyster Festival and a fading soap actor starring in the panto to turn on the Christmas lights. We had Toyah Willcox once, and Wizadora.

Except that’s not really what it was like most of the time.

From its antiquated school system to its estuary accent, the arse end of England has a lot to answer for.

Here’s 21 things you only know if you grew up along the East Kent coast:

Scratch drawings
A great way to spend a rainy day (Picture: Kickstarter)

If you’re a fan of adult colouring books, you’ll love this. In fact, scratch drawing for adults is even better because you don’t even have to worry about staying inside the lines.

It’s the perfect way to de-stress after a day spent tutting at other commuters, and procrastinating over deadlines.

Inspired by scratchboard art (it’s a thing apparently), and the success of adult colouring and dot-to-dot books among hipsters, South Korean design studio Lago created a series of cityscape drawings, which can be scratched off to reveal spectacular night views.

Resting bitch face gets a bad rap, but there’s some good news for those who understand the struggle of RBF.

Sure, people might think you’re always in a bad mood, have a terrible attitude problem, and are a complete snob.

But all that has led to one really great thing – you’re probably a better communicator for it.

Research back in the 1960s by psychologist Albert Mehrabian showed the world how we mostly depend on non-verbal cues such as facial expressions and other body language to communicate.

RBF will probably be asking ‘so, how does that… Read the full story

bean sprout hair clips are china's latest fashion trend
Angle towards the sun. (Picture: Instagram)

We’ve seen our fair share of statement hair accessories.

There were the glittery butterfly hairclips and twist in diamantes of the 90s. The ubiquitous flower crowns of the last few years of festivalwear. That massive headband obsession inspired by Blair Waldorf.

The latest slight out-there one to make it onto our radar is the new trend in Beijing street fashion: beansprout hair slides.

All the fashion-y people of China have been embellishing their heads with pins decked out in fake beansprouts, creating the illusion of a tiny plant growing from their hair.

It’s a bit weird, but surprisingly cute and wearable.
