There’s a difference between having a sh*t day and having a day where you believe you are sh*t.

If you suffer from depression you know what I mean.

But you control your depression, not the other way round.

That doesn’t mean it’s easy, but there’s always light at the end of the tunnel – you just have to remind yourself to open your eyes and keep walking forwards so you can see it.

Here are 6 things that help lift me out of that fog – I hope they help you too.

1. Play music

Play music

Create a playlist of your favourite upbeat tracks – you know the ones that make you instantly smile? The ones you can’t help but prance around to, like an enthusiastic Christmas elf, in the privacy of your own home? Those ones. And keep it up to date.

Spotify is great for easily adding and subtracting tracks. TIDAL is another service you might… Read the full story

Primary school definitely comes under the classification of the ‘good old days’, and obvs, the key social event of the day was break time because anything was possible.

1. Injuries

There was a disregard for health and safety and someone would be injured during an innocent game of football. This resulted in the offending football being confiscated and a spongy replacement being dispatched.

2. British bulldog

You can’t remember receiving a formal introduction to this game, but somehow you knew exactly how to play. Your biggest fear was to end up being bulldog at the end of break and to be treated like you had the plague by your friends for the rest of the day.

3. Skipping hazards

Skipping rope wasn’t too hard, but then… Read the full story

Bubbles the daschund was born on July 27 2014 – without her two front legs.

Owners Trevor Byers and Elissa Smoak from Texas immediately realised Bubbles would need very special care.

‘We knew right away our little family had just grown by one because no way were we letting this special girl go. We were also very worried for her,’ they wrote on their Facebook page.

They weren’t sure what kind of quality of life the pup would have, but, nearly a year on, and thanks to a special 3D-printed set of wheels,… Read the full story

Times are hard (Picture: Getty)

Times are tough. The cost of living is higher than ever yet wages remain low. Therefore, many families on low to average incomes are struggling to make ends meet.

If, like us, you are feeling the financial strain, then you may relate to some of these!

1. You get excited if you find a pound at the bottom of your bag.

2. A light bulb in EVERY room is an extravagance.

3. Your kids think the charity shop is THE toy store.

4. It is not unusual for you to text your partner to ask whether he can ‘borrow’ some toilet roll from work.

5. You finally have to crack open the food that has been at the back of… Read the full story

This pre-school nursery is in an old people’s home.

Just take a minute to think about that. Young children and elderly people being cared for together. Interacting together. Teaching each other.

Genius, isn’t is?

But this isn’t just some Utopian dream, this set-up actually exists.

The Providence Mount St. Vincent care home in Seattle is home to 400 elderly residents. It’s also home to a nursery for children aged 16 weeks to 3-years-old.

Providence Mount St. Vincent (or The Mount as it’s known) is currently in the spotlight thanks to a documentary called Present Perfect, which explores the experience of growing up and growing old in America.

Camel No knickers… we’re not down. (Picture: Camel No)

Having a camel toe is pretty bad. But are these knickers worse?

Well quite frankly we’re not sure.

We’ll admit, walking around all day with a camel toe isn’t great. But if you put a gun to our heads and ask if we’d prefer to walk around all day in a pair of ‘Camel No’ knickers – which apart from having a name which makes us gag and a logo which looks like the Camel cigarette logo, also look as though they have an in-built pantyliner in them – we’re not sure we’d say yes.

Sleep: The Power Nap treatment at the Miami Beach edition hotel

Think of all the things you could do if you didn’t have to spend 8 hours sleeping every night.

It’d be like being given the gift everyone wants: time.

So if a treatment existed that promised 4 hours of sleep in 20 minutes, who wouldn’t take it?

Now one Miami spa is offering just that – but can it ever replace a real night of sweet, sweet sleep?

We tried it out – and here’s what happened.

After you’ve disrobed and made yourself (extremely) comfortable, you lie down on one of the designated beds, surrounded by billowing white curtains and candlelit wind lanterns.

How is makeup shaming even a thing?

Two weeks ago we reported on the Dutch beauty blogger Nikkie (of NikkieTutorials), who decided to fight back at the makeup shamers by posting a video of her making up just half of her face.

The video was an instant hit, and has now received over 1.6 million hits. But best of all, it’s inspired thousands of other women to join the battle and stand up to the makeup shamers.

Posting pictures of their half made-up faces on Instagram using the hashtag #ThePowerOfMakeup, these women are showing that just because they like makeup, it doesn’t mean they’re ashamed of their natural beauty.

Check these out…

Nobody’s perfect. Well, almost nobody.

This is because each of us believes deep down that there is nothing wrong with our personality. We may not admit this to others, but we think we’re perfect.

Don’t believe it? Why else would we get so flustered when people don’t behave exactly how we want them to behave? Like us.

None of us are perfect really, but some people are Just The Worst. Like, the worst people in the world. Here are the things that make them the worst. Are you one of them?

Alone at home, I was making lunch while distracted and tired from the brutal combination of late-night gigs and early-morning baby minding.

I was eating a fresh apricot to keep my energy up. Oooh, get me. Fresh apricots. Like a decadent Roman emperor. This was my first time, I promise. They’d had them at Tesco Metro and like a wide-eyed post-war child seeing his first banana, I couldn’t resist.

But my fruit-based vanity combined with parental exhaustion nearly killed me because I wasn’t paying enough attention and gobbled up the stone as well as the flesh. I was sure I could feel the apricot pit lodged in my throat. I coughed and experienced the kind of discomfort… Read the full story

Can. You. Imagine.

If you think your mum’s embarrassing, wait till you hear about Ovella O’Neil.

The mum-of-six from New Jersey has just pulled the mother of all embarrassing mum moves, by renting a billboard near her 18-year-old son Aljelani ‘AJ’ Igwe’s school to congratulate him on his graduation.

The billboard reads: ‘A mother can’t raise a man, but I raised a gentleman. We have the total package. Love, your family. Congratulations 2015!’.

Talking to ABC news, proud mum Ovella gushed: ‘He has always been a super kid… He is always on the right track.’

Kimberly says she’s learnt to love her mum bod (Picture: Facebook)

A mum has shared a picture of her ‘mummy tummy’ because she’s tired of being told she has the ‘perfect body’ after having four kids.

Kimberly Henderson, a musician from South Carolina, wanted to show that, no, her body’s not perfect, but she’s finally okay with that.

In fact, the imperfections are, she argues, what makes her feel beautiful.

The 27-year-old wrote under her picture last week: ‘Everyone always compliments me on how I have such a “perfect” body after 4 kids. I decided to upload this pic and leave my belly “unedited” “unphotoshopped” because I used to struggle with accepting my body after kids.’

High street retailer Mamas and Papas is facing criticism for gender stereotyping their baby clothes based on colour and print alone.

The issue was highlighted when mother-to-be Jess Potter received an email alerting her to the M&P summer sale.

She said she was shocked to find that identical babygrows, without any ergonomic differences between them, are categorised as being for ‘girls’ or ‘boys’ based only on whether they are pink or blue.

Jess told Metro.co.uk: ‘I received an email about a M&P sale and went to look at the babygrows, as I’m now 29 weeks pregnant.

The key to avoiding social awkwardness? Eat more kimchi, miso soup and pickles, says science

Pickles 2

If you feel totally awks in social situations, then you need to eat more fermented foods, says science.

Possible side-effects: people will think you’re a bit of a foodie d***head.

A study by the University of Maryland found a link between fermented foods which contain probiotics – such as kimchi, miso soup, pickles and sauerkraut – and social anxiety.

‘It is likely that the probiotics in the fermented foods are favorably changing the environment in the gut, and changes in the gut in turn influence social anxiety,’ said professor of psychology Matthew Hilimire, who led the research.

He added: ‘I think that it is absolutely fascinating that the microorganisms in your gut can influence your mind.’

Oh my kimchi

Around 700 students were asked to complete a questionnaire about their eating habits, alongside a wider study on social anxiety and neuroticism.

Participants answered questions about their consumption of fermented… Read the full story
