In a stunning series called ‘Super Hero Cages’, Sandra Chevrier paints beautiful women covered in bold comic book prints.
She does this to show the expectation society places on women to become superheroes.
Chevrier says: ‘The series “cages” is about women trying to find freedom from society’s twisted preconceptions of what a woman should or shouldn’t be.’
By covering women in comic books she says she hopes to show the struggle that women go through with having ‘false expectations of beauty and perfection as well as the limitations society places on women.’
She adds: ‘By doing so, society is asking them to become superheroes.’
