Voldemort’s ‘T’ is silent and 10 other things we all get wrong about Harry Potter

JK Rowling gently scolded Harry Potter fans today, telling them off for mispronouncing the name of his nemesis, Lord Voldemort.

While most of us – and most of the characters in the film, in our defence – say the dark lord’s name with a hard ‘T’ sound at the end, Rowling had other plans when she created him.

The menacing moniker should have been pronounced with a silent ‘T’, like the French word for death, ‘mort’, when talking about He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named-But-This-Is-A-Blog-Post-About-His-Name-Dammit.
