And now it turns out that the ruffians are more likely to be sexist too.
Two Australian professors surveyed around 500 men from two very different cultures, India and the United States, to find out more about the relationship between beards and sexism.
The participants were asked to indicate their agreement or disagreement with different statements about gender roles.
