According to a new study, those wet wipes that have made cleaning so convenient could actually be spreading bacteria rather than killing it.
The Cardiff University study claimed that the detergent wipes could be helping to spread hospital superbugs in hospitals, as well as increasing the risk of infections in the home.
Scientists tested seven commercially available detergent wipes which are used in hospitals across the UK on common infections, including MRSA and C. difficile.
As well as showing ‘huge variability’ in their ability to remove bacteria, the wipes also ‘repeatedly transferred significant amounts of bacteria’ from one surface to another.
