The footwear brand most bashed by fashion types has to be Ugg… closely followed by Crocs.

The fashion brand that’s quickly gaining a reputation for designing bizarre clothing is Y/Project. Remember their buttless jeans, convertible short shorts, and denim jacket with absurdly long sleeves?

Mash the two designers together, and you’re going to get something… interesting.

Interesting. Like these thigh-high Ugg boots.

Yes, friends: Thigh high Ugg boots. Not only does such a thing exist, but it’s been sent down a runway.

On Wednesday during Paris Fashion Week Men’s Y/Project debuted a collaboration with Ugg on the runway, displaying large, slouchy… Read the full story

Breastfeeding has many benefits for mother and child.

Not only does it help newborns fight against illness and diseases, it also helps the uterus return to its pre-pregnancy size and can reduce uterine bleeding after birth.

Breastfeeding is also said to lower your risk of breast and ovarian cancer.

But now it’s been revealed that it could also lower the risk of developing diabetes.

Mums who breastfeed for six months or more cut their chances of developing diabetes by 47%, a study by U.S researchers revealed.

Lead author Erica Gunderson said: ‘We found a very strong association between breastfeeding duration and lower risk of developing diabetes, even after accounting for all possible confounding risk factors’.

Alexander Wang is going against everything the fashion world holds dear by breaking with the traditional fashion week calendar.

Instead of being confined to New York’s standard February billing, the 34-year-old designer has announced that after the Fall 2018 showcase next month, he’ll be holding his own shows in June and December instead.

The changes are supposedly designed to ‘better serve’ the label’s customers, with the new dates more closely aligning to the pre-collection schedule.

‘Our consumer will be better served through the new system,’ Alexander Wang CEO Lisa Gersh says in a press release.

‘The innovative approach reframes product on the month that it ships, rather than the outdated labels of ‘Resort’… Read the full story

Why you shouldn't be scared to ask someone to stop eating something that will kill you
Hi, hello, good day please stop eating those peanuts at your desk (Picture: Ella Byworth for Metro.co.uk)

It is way past my bedtime and something is really wrong.

I am itchy, I can’t open my eyes properly and my tongue is too big in my mouth.

Within minutes of calling out to my parents, my coat and shoes are on and we’re going to hospital.

As I’m carried out of the front door by my dad, I look over his shoulder and see the reason for their hurry.

Looking back at me in the hallway mirror is not my… Read the full story

Last week, Domino’s started selling vegan cheese pizzas down under and the Australian plant-based world rejoiced.

But they obviously didn’t anticipate just how keen everyone would all be – because the pizza giants have now said that they’re running of out dairy-free cheese at loads of their stores.

Such is their thirst for plant-based mozzarella, that Domino’s is working to bring in more supplies to satisfy demands.

And yet…Domino’s still hasn’t brought out a vegan cheese option in the UK.

The mozzarella is made by US company Follow Your Heart, and Nick Knight, Domino’s Australia and New Zealand CEO says that customers should check with local… Read the full story

Veganuary has been absolutely massive this year.

We’ve seen the opening of London’s first vegan Chinese. Goodfella’s just released the UK’s first ever mainstream vegan frozen pizza. And nearly every chain seems to be bringing out their own range of plant-based sandwiches and wraps.

This month has also seen two London pubs turn 100% vegan.

Veganism isn’t a minority interest anymore.

And if you want further proof that that’s the case, just look at the Blacksmith and Toffeemaker – a pub in Islington which switched to a fully plant-based menu this year.

They’ve just reported that sales are up three-fold.

The pub turned vegan for… Read the full story

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few weeks, you’ll know that H&M has been in hot water over the design of a kids’ hoodie.

It read ‘Coolest Monkey In The Jungle’…and was worn by a black child.

And despite the model’s mum coming out to say that they weren’t offended by the design, a lot of people were and slammed the brand for being racially insensitive.

The whole thing was just a mess.

Which is why H&M has now hired a ‘diversity leader’ to try to make sure they get stuff right in the future.

Posting to their Facebook page, the Swedish fashion giant says that ‘the recent incident was entirely unintentional,… Read the full story

Meghan Markle threw her support behind British brands again for her and Prince Harry‘s Cardiff visit.

She even bagged herself a spot in Wales’ good books by turning up in a pair of jeans by a Welsh designer.

Is it possible to be body positive and want to lose weight?

There can’t be a woman on the planet who hasn’t thought about slimming down, at some point or other.

And increasingly, dudes are feeling the pressure to shred down – thanks to our generation’s #fitspo obsession online.

Most of us grew up believing that true beauty comes in a ‘perfect 10’ or smaller, and many of us still subliminally do.

Where’s that got us?F

Well, 65% of young women in America report having had disordered eating behaviours, with a further 10% reporting symptoms of anorexia, bulimia or binge eating.

Here in the UK, 11% of the 1.6 million eating disorder sufferers are male and one in 100 women aged between 15 and 30 are anorexic.

It’s a bloody outrage that so many young people want to make themselves disappear – either by starving themselves to death or by making themselves invisible to society.

Which is why the body positivity movement is so important. People have tried to reclaim… Read the full story

If you’re trying to be more economical this year, then stop buying kitchen equipment just because you saw it on Masterchef.

From ice cream makers to sushi mats to bamboo steamers, BBQ equipment, and professional chef knives – Brits have a staggering £11 billion worth of kitchen equipment that they never actually use, according to a new study.

Modern Brits have all the gear but no idea when it comes to their culinary skills – with the average UK household spending £415 worth of unused cooking gadgets and utensils.

More than half of people admit they have absolutely no idea what to do with most of the equipment in their kitchens, according… Read the full story

Apologies, cat owners.

However you announced the arrival of your little fur baby (a cute Instagram post? A family-wide email celebrating their adoption?), it simply cannot compete with Lucy Schultz‘s approach to marking the occasion.

Lucy and her partner, Steven, recently brought home their very own cat. They are now cat parents, and that is worth celebration.

Rather than posing up their cat next to a window or snuggled up on the sofa, they decided to show everyone the true connection between parent and cat… by doing a full on maternity photoshoot showing their new cat being birthed into the world.

Yes, birthed. By cat mum Lucy herself.

Photo series captures Iranian women defiantly rebelling against compulsory hijab laws

The choice to wear the hijab should be just that: a choice. A personal decision.

In Iran that’s not the case. Compulsory hijab laws means that the decision to bare hair is a revolutionary act – and one that can have serious consequences.

When photographer Marinka Masséus traveled to Iran, she met women fighting back; fighting for the freedom of choice.

Every day brave Iranian women defy the regime with small acts of defiance – wearing the hijab too low, wearing brigh colours, or throwing on tight trousers. These seem like little things, but in a culture where these things are strictly monitored, it takes courage to stand strong against the rules.

That’s especially true in light of how the regime responds: with regular arrests, harassment, and the creation of new laws to further restrict women. That’s why each rebellion is revolutionary.

She decided to capture the radical acts of these women by photographing each one throwing away the hijab.

Emoji have become a modern day staple of social media and messaging apps.

With hundreds of different emoji to choose from it’s hard to keep up with what constitutes good social media etiquette.

Emoji can be fun and innocent, but some like the aubergine and peach can have sexual connotations, with people using them for the purposes of flirtation and sexting.

But what exactly do the aubergine and peach emoji mean? Other than their respective vegetable and fruit meanings, of course?

Photos show sexist ads from the 50s with the gender roles reversed

Sexist advertising didn’t stop back in the 50s.

It feels like every month there’s another advert to be annoyed about, whether it crosses the line into sexual objectification or relies on outdated gender stereotypes (like suggesting women are slow on a bike. We don’t get that one either).

But several decades back, sexism in advertising was more common, and definitely more accepted.

We didn’t have Twitter back then for people to call out brands for being terrible to women, and there was little support for women who tried to fight back against traditional gender roles.

Need a reminder of the extent sexism pervaded advertising? Take a… Read the full story

Don’t feel too bad if you didn’t get out of bed until 2pm last Sunday.

While previous research has suggested that you can’t ‘catch up’ on missed sleep at the weekends, a new study from Sweden suggests that it can be beneficial to have a lie-in over the weekend.

The research, from Stockholm University, looked at how a person’s age and their average hours of sleep impacts their chances of living for longer.

Looking at 43,000 people, researchers found that those aged 65 or under were the most affected by how much sleep they got. Those who had an average of less than five hours of sleep,… Read the full story

Oh, hey. Remember when Tarte answered all the hype and anticipation around their new Shape Tape Foundation by bringing out a range with only two tones for those with darker skin?

That didn’t look so great.

After the massive success of Fenty Beauty, we truly thought makeup brands would have received the message loud and clear: You cannot continue to only cater to white people. You need to provide diverse options, or you are excluding customers who will happily take their money elsewhere.

To bring out a makeup range that isn’t inclusive to people of colour is to fail. It’s disappointing when brands still aren’t seeing that.

One thing that makes chocolate taste even sweeter (besides caramel, honeycomb, and popping candy): Getting it for free.

While usually we have to wait for birthdays or Christmas – or Valentine’s Day, if you’re sneaky – to experience this joy, there’s now a special popup on the way to give us the gift of free chocolate whenever we want it… well, for a few days, anyway.

The Glass and a Half shop will be a Cadbury themed newsagents where everything’s purple and Cadbury themed: newspapers, household supplies, postcards.
