Yesterday, Facebook user Louise Scott, 33, posted a wonderful idea on to her Facebook page.

The personal trainer from South Shields captioned a photo of an almost empty box with ‘It’s the first year I don’t have an advent calendar’, and went on to tell her friends that she has decided to do something for others instead.

‘Every day, I will place something in this box,’ she says.

‘Food, toiletries etc. Then on Christmas Eve I will take it to a shelter or find a homeless person to give it to.’

Louise has started off her advent box with a tin of tomato soup. Perfect for a cold winter’s day.

Richard Herring: I’ve gone soft – and I love it

Back in the 1970s, I did not get to go to soft play areas. Partly because my parents were strict old-fashioned types (like something out of a Roald Dahl book set in an orphanage in Dickensian London) who hated us having fun and partly because soft play areas probably didn’t exist then.

We definitely had bouncy castles though, because I remember staring wistfully at one at Draycott Strawberry Fayre – but my mum wouldn’t let me go on it. I think she thought it looked too dangerous. And admittedly I was a weak and clumsy child who would definitely have broken a limb… Read the full story

It never goes to plan (Picture: Getty)

It’s not Christmas unless someone has a meltdown, and it will probably be due to something decoration related.

Every year you are bombarded with images of the most perfect festive displays imaginable. The type of stuff that would even make Laurence Llewelyn Bowen weep with jealously.

You of course feel that you too are totally capable of recreating such magic at home, but sadly this is not always the case, and it usually ends up getting caught up in fairy lights, tears and a few broken baubles.

Should you treat yourself and take the plunge with a real one? If you did, then it would place a nice… Read the full story

This video of 101-year-old Albina Foisy playing in the snow has now been watched by over 7.9 million people. And has melted 7.9 million hearts.

Albina’s son Armand explained on Facebook how he was driving his mum along frozen roads where they live in Lillooet, Canada, when it began to snow heavily.

Armand stopped by the side of the road to take in the beautiful scenery, which is when his mum sprang out of the car and began to play in the snow.

Aiming a snowball at a sign (and missing), the centenarian can be heard saying: ‘It’s kind of nice to play in the snow.’

Why build a zoo so close to a house? (Picture: 64 Zoo Lane)

Children’s television in the 80s was so much better than today’s. Fact.

We might only have had a couple of channels but you knew where you were with Bagpuss, Button Moon, Trumpton, Rainbow, Roland Rat and co.

Today’s viewing, by comparison, is just…crazy.

I found out the other day that the kids who play Topsy and Tim are not twins. They are not even related. At all. To say I felt cheated was an understatement. But this is just one of many inconsistencies which fries my brain.

I know I’m not the only parent who feels like this. As if more proof… Read the full story

We think we may have finally discovered the truth behind the need to pay 5p for plastic bags from supermarkets.

And, we’re 100% sure you’re not going to guess what it is. So hold your breath.

Ready?

Hair dye.

Yes, really. These 5p bags are not just there to carry your potatoes, they can also add to your six-weekly hair-dye top up.

Well, if you shop at Asda that is.

That’s exactly what happened to one girl who decided to place a plastic Asda bag around her head whilst dying her hair.

Seeing the funny side, she decided to take a snap of her hair disaster and send it to her brother. Of course, he then went on to share onto his Facebook. Making the post public.

Oh, the horror. Let’s hope she goes to a real hairdresser next time. Or… Read the full story

It turns out a woman-eating-snake could actually do some good. Theoretically that is, obviously.

This short story, which has been shared widely across Facebook by user Chris Planer, goes like this:

There once was a woman who had a pet snake that she loved very much. The snake was about 7 feet long and one day it just stopped eating. After several weeks of trying everything she could to get the snake to eat, the woman took it to the vet.

The woman explained the situation to the vet and he asked her, “Has your snake been sleeping with you at night or snuggling really close and stretching himself out?”

The woman replied, “Yes… Read the full story

You just can’t justify the things you do when you’re horny

Let’s face it, everyone has done at least one stupid thing when it comes to sex.

Whether that thing is completely embarrassing or just seriously questionable, there’s no doubt that being horny completely changes the way you think.

For a short time, anyway.

Someone who goes under the username ‘shutyourcumtunnel’ (figures, doesn’t it?) has taken to Reddit to ask other users about the weirdest things they have done when horny.

And, as you’d probably expect, the answers are pretty hilarious.

Because goodbye doesn’t really mean goodbye.

Wow, Santa’s VERY excited about Christmas this year.

After mum Elletia Thomas posted a picture of her son’s unintentionally naughty Christmas card design on parenting blog Unmumsy Mum’s Facebook page, other parents are now sharing their kids’ hilarious Christmas card fails.

Elletia posted the picture of her son’s design over the weekend, with the comment: ‘My son’s Christmas card design. School want to know if I would like to pay £16 for a pack of cards and gift tags. Nothing says ‘Merry Christmas’ like Santa’s giant red c*ck, I suppose.’

And it seems the phallus pops up everywhere.

Burritos and selfies. A match made in internet heaven. (Picture: Getty)

Londoners may have the saddest selfies in the world, but we have the answer.

Burrito selfies. According to all the people who’ve used the #burritoselfie tag on Instagram, the burrito selfie is totally a thing (H/T to Buzzfeed).

The burrito selfie is pretty self explanatory. It’s all about capturing an intimate moment with the one you love the most.

That moment when you give in and buy a burrito. Or when you take that first bite. Or when you finish it and lay back, bloated with pride and accomplishment (and carbs).

A change is on the horizon (Picture: Nicole Englemann Photography)

Last Thursday, I went to this year’s UK Dating Awards as a finalist in the Dating Writer of the Year category.

Held at the HAC Armoury House, the list of winners indicated that a change in dating is on the horizon, and for the better.

Here’s all you need to know about the future of finding love.

1. Could the days of relentless swiping be coming to an end?

One of the subjects that frequently came up during the mingling was people’s thoughts of the hugely successful Tinder; an app which, despite it’s popularity, was noticeably missing from the shortlist. The debate of whether it is just a… Read the full story

Yep, we would like to live in this.

When most studio flats have a toilet next to the oven, and the average rent is more than anyone can reasonably afford without selling a kidney, it might be time to look outside the traditional housing thing.

Architect Christoph Kaiser has done just that, taking a more out-there approach to the great question of real estate: what can be a house?. Rather than looking at the four walls and a roof idea, he decided to transform a 1950s silo into a cosy home for two.

Earlier this month, Lexxie Harford posted a series of makeup-free selfies on Imgur. After years of covering up her facial birthmark, she said she was done with hiding away.

The 23-year-old from Stoke-on-Trent, who in the last two years has been approached to appear on TV show ‘Too Ugly For Love?’ as well as Channel 4’s The Undateables, spent her teenager years trying to cover up the mark.

If you thought yoga was all quinoa and kale juice, you’d be wrong. At least it’s not in this guy’s hands.

Because this unassuming 60-year-old is actually a super-bendy yoga bunny who can down a pint – which starts off balanced on his head – without using his hands.

In a video posted online, called Beer Yoga with Granddude, his stepdaughter explains: ‘My 60 year old step dad told us he could place a beer on his head and drink it without using his hands or arms….. We didn’t believe him but he totally killed it.’

‘Santa’s Flask’ is the ultimate stocking for all wine lovers

$

No, this is not a drill. You can now buy an actual Christmas stocking-shaped wine flask.

I mean, what better way to enjoy Christmas and save a little money when you go to the pub on Boxing Day than to fill your stocking with the thing you love most?

Also, you won’t have to pretend you appreciate the gift you got from your husband, because he’s basically buying you wine.

The booze stocking is the exact same size as your average stocking and can hold 2.25 litres of booze, so there’s more than enough to share.

You can also purchase a clip to accompany your stocking so that you can hang it up over the fire with the rest of the family’s normal (slightly more boring) stockings.

These stockings are priced at $19.99, though they can be shipped to the UK for $24.99 – £16.74.
