Take care of your nails.(Picture: Getty)

Cursed with nails that peel, flake, and break? We feel your pain.

We all want strong, healthy nails that look incredible and can also be used to open packets of food.

And so we’ll take any means necessary to strengthen and polish our nails, whether it’s eaten cubes of gelatin (guilty), sticking on falsies, or resorting to the gel manicure – despite our fears that it could be making our nails even more delicate longterm.

Well, we have some good news and some bad news.

Buying presents for dads is hard. Chances are, if he wanted something he’s already got it.

But before you go for the default options of novelty slippers, nose hair trimmers and a world’s best dad mug, consider what really matters to him.

If your dad could plan out the perfect day, what would he have? We think the list would look something like this.

1. A lie-in

Dads don’t generally get lie-ins, because as soon as they wake up they remember All The Stuff That Must Be Done. Unplug the alarm clock, pin up the blackout blinds and lay off the techno until he’s up.

2. A poo in peace

Dads and bathrooms have a unique relationship: it’s where he… Read the full story

Turns out cranberry juice might not do anything to help with UTIs

What’s the truth? (Picture: Getty)

It’s the piece of advice we first think of any time we start needing a wee every five seconds: drink more cranberry juice – it prevents you from developing urinary tract infections (UTIs).

And so whenever we’re reminded, we down cranberry juice in bulk.

We’ve experienced the pain of a UTI before, and we never, ever want to go through the pain and horror again. Ever.

But it turns out that cranberry juice might not actually be giving us the protection it promises. Yup. All that juice-downing could be a total waste of time.

These insane cheese-covered nachos might be too much to handle

Whoa. (Picture: Facebook/Pikositos)

Sometimes food innovation isn’t about trying new ingredients or dyeing perfectly good bagels bright colours.

Sometimes it’s as simple as adding more of a good thing. No, more than that. More.

Buzzfeed has brought our attention to Pikositos Pikositos, a restaurant who has taken this concept to the extreme. They’ve taken humble nachos and made them into something so much better – mostly through piling on the cheese.

But these are not just nachos. These are ‘chorreados’ – nachos topped with corn on the cob, which is topped with corn salad, which is then entirely covered in cheese.

Holy f*ck.

Meet Griffin Von Porkchop. He’s an exotic shorthair cat. He lives with two other cats named Dezza and Quin, and his owner, who goes by the name jonosvision.

Griffin Von Porkchop (yes, we shall be referring to him by his full name only) also has an asymmetrical jaw, which makes him look, well,  a little bit goofy.

He used to have a snaggletooth, which added to his look, but jonosvision eventually had it removed after it began to dig in to the cat’s lower tooth and cause him pain.

Sure, we know you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. But we so do. And the title is a pretty big part of that.

Because let’s be real. Would we have picked up the joy that is Interpreter of Maladies if it had been called LOVE AND STUFF? Probably not.

So thank the publishers and editors of the world for giving classic books their final titles. They did what was needed to convince us to pick up a book and give it a chance.

Thank them for saving us from the original… Read the full story

This is why you need to wash your new clothes before you wear them

Wash your stuff. (Picture: Getty)

You know the drill. You casually stroll into Topshop. You fall in love with a fancy jacket/jumper/trousers. You take said item home and proceed to wear it EVERY DAMN DAY until you get bored of it.

This is personal style. This is why we have no money.

But this process has a major thing missing: washing your new piece of clothing before you wear it for the first time

Seems like overkill, right? It’s new, so it must be clean. Why would you risk shrinkage just to wash something that seems perfectly fine to begin with?

Let’s sort this out. (Picture: metro.co.uk/Myles Goode)

It’s a piece of wisdom that haunts us every. damn. time. we mess up and swallow a piece of chewing gum.

We know we shouldn’t. We weren’t thinking. There wasn’t a bin nearby. Won’t any of these excuses protect us from seven years of wadded up gum stuck in our stomachs?

Just thinking about all the gum we’ve swallowed that could be sitting in our insides right now is deeply unsettling.

But what if the ‘gum will stay in your tummy for YEARS’ thing weren’t true? What if we’re all safe and free of sticky, gummed up intestines?

Juneteenth isn’t something we celebrate in the UK, so the very name of it might just stump you.

Luckily, we’re here to answer all your questions about the US holiday, what it represents, and how it is celebrated.

What is Juneteenth?

The celebration commemorates 19 June 1865, the day that slavery was finally abolished in Texas.

But wasn’t slavery abolished before then?

Yes – Abraham Lincoln issued his Emancipation Proclamation in 1892, but Texas, being part of the Confederate South but far… Read the full story

It’s the national day to celebrate our dads. Here’s to them!

Over the years they’ve carried out many jobs outside their own. Taxi Driver. Tear Wiper. Tea Maker. Hangover Curer. Overdraft Extender.

And love them as we do for the additional jobs they take on for us, there will always be the one job they’ll be best at – King of Annoyance.

We can’t deny it, they all do the little things that drive us insane but we can’t help but love them for.

1. Starting a text with ‘It’s Dad’. Ending a text with ‘Love from Dad’.

When we 100% have them saved in our phones under one name and one name only. Dad.

Father’s Day: The surprising way my dad helped me survive depression

Dad and I (Picture: Wendy Boother)

As the commercial world reminds me that I won’t be celebrating Father’s Day with my Dad for the third year, I can say that he helped me through three episodes of depression.

‘The Kirby Curse’ is what he called it, so it may be in the genes.

Dad was a strong character, a proud man hiding great sensitivity.

I was dealing with divorce when I returned to the family home in 1983 with my three-year-old son.

Dad told me that it would be like a bereavement and to accept that it may take a couple of years to feel myself again.

But this was different.

It was time for another father-daughter… Read the full story
