Dear parent trying to do all the stuff this summer,

I know what you are thinking, ‘I am way too busy to read this article! I’ve got stuff to do, people to see, babies to feed…do you NOT REALISE IT IS THE BLOODY SUMMER HOLIDAYS?’ So I’ll try to get straight to the point. You are trying to do too much.

As well as the day-to-day business of actually keeping your children alive, you are working, cooking, cleaning, paying bills, food shopping and doing ALL THE DAMN LAUNDRY. And because it is the SUMMER HOLIDAYS AND YOU MUST ‘MAKE THE MOST OF IT’ it is very likely you are trying to ram in a whole load… Read the full story

In today’s installment of ‘you’re doing everything in your life wrong, you massive idiot’, science says you’re holding your mug of coffee or tea all wrong. Silly.

Scientists from South Korea have spent a lot of time and energy on fixing one of life’s great problems: hot beverages spilling out of mugs and cups as you walk from the kettle back to your desk. Or from the coffee shop back to your office, if you’re one of those macchiato with a caramel drizzle types.

After lots of lab experiments, test walks, and some intense analysis, the researchers declared that there’s a reason our tea and coffee keeps spilling while… Read the full story

Alan’s buzzing right now (Picture: Mercury Press)

Back in 2014, a pensioner from Caterham-on-the-Hill embarked on a grand tour – of every single Caffè Nero in the UK.

Two years on, and 73-year-old Alan Edwards has just visited his 150th branch. Given that there are 607 stores in the UK, that means he’s still less than a quarter of the way through his ambitious quest, which he’s calling ‘Alan’s Nero Tour’.

Seriously, he could have been to Mordor and back in less time.

Alan first fell in love with the coffee chain during a ‘disastrous’ trip to Middlesbrough to see the transporter bridge in action with wife Wendy.

Unfortunately, they visited on a day… Read the full story

Meet Batman (no, not the Ben Affleck version). He’s a cat. He’s friendly, cute, and loves a cheek rubs.

Batman also happens to have a rare medical condition that means he has four ears.

Don’t worry, it doesn’t affect his hearing. He can hear perfectly well and is in great health – his extra ears are just his one little quirk.

Batman first arrived in the Western Pennsylvania Humane Society last month. He was brought in with a respiratory infection, but has now gone through treatment and is back to perfect health.

SEAMLESS.

Proceed with caution if you’re feeling a bit peckish. This video will push all chocolate cravings into dangerous territory.

We’ll be honest. We’ve never really stopped to ponder how chocolate buttons come to be. We’re usually too busy stuffing as many buttons as possible into our mouths in one sitting.

But now Cadbury has revealed the behind the scenes process of how Dairy Milk Buttons become, well, little chocolate buttons rather than large chunks of chocolate, everything has changed. Our minds have been blown.

The whole thing is magical and beautiful and we could watch this process forever.

BEHOLD.

I’ve been with my partner for just over 3 years now, but last year we were faced with some truly difficult situations which saw us almost splitting up.

I had taken ill and over the course of 2015 spent a lot of time in hospital.

William sounds like quite a character (Picture: The Times Picayune)

The family of former firefighter William Ziegler have written him a lovely – and, for an obituary, surprisingly funny – tribute in the local paper.

Well, if you’re going to go, go laughing.

According to the notice, published today in the Times-Picayune, William ‘escaped this mortal realm’ on July 29, aged 69. To be honest, they say, they ‘think he did it on purpose to avoid having to make a decision in the pending presidential election’.

William leaves behind him four children, five grand-children and ‘the potted meat industry, for which he was an unofficial spokesman until dietary restrictions forced him to eat real… Read the full story

Most people check into rehab to get them over their addictions. Or they try and go cold turkey themselves.

One woman, however, claims that praying daily to Amy Winehouse helped her crack her cocaine habit.

Singer Natalie Indya West, 31, believes that the singer has helped her turn her life – and her musical career – around from beyond the grave.

Her cocaine use was so bad that at one point, it was costing Natalia £28,000 a year, and had brought her to the brink of suicide.

If you’re trying to tick as many countries as possible off your ‘places I want to visit’ list, this might be the most efficient option for a single night’s stay.

The Hotel Arbez is a bed and breakfast with a twist: it’s the only hotel in the world that’s in two countries at the same time.

You see, The Hotel Arbez sits right on the French-Swiss border in the village of La Cure. It goes right through the hotel and even runs through some of the rooms.

Residents of Wellington, New Zealand, can sleep soundly tonight, knowing that their streets are safe once again.

Thanks should go to hardworking New Zealand police, who – with a lot of hard work and determination – were able to capture Steve, a baby seal/public menace, who was caught trespassing in a police carpark. The horror.

Stuff reports that Steve was first spotted by someone walking by the carpark, who noticed his little face peeking out from underneath a car. The police were alerted, and officers came out to check on the misbehaving pup.

It’s never going to be a dull day at the office – as this Reddit thread asking sex shop workers for their weirdest customer stories proves.

It’s safe to say things got interesting. This gets very NSFW. You’ve been warned.

Most people assume that cats are independent beings who thoroughly enjoy their own company and will only pay their owners any sort of attention when it involves food.

While many owners will know this to be true – I’ve got to say I’m not one of them.

My cat is incredibly caring, sensitive and admittedly, a little clingy.

I often describe him as being much like a dog – he waits at the door for me when I get home, he takes a while to adjust to anyone who’s not me and he won’t rest until he’s been cuddled. Which means a lot of headbutting my arm with an incredibly wet nose.

But I wouldn’t have him any other way – and if you’ve got a cat much like him, I’m sure you wouldn’t either.

Here are 11 things you’ll only know if you have an incredibly caring cat.

1. You hate the thought of leaving them on… Read the full story

Admit it. The last time you travelled solo, you had a little daydream about your eyes meeting with another lone traveller, instantly forging a connection, getting seated next to each other, and falling in love.

Or having some hot post-plane holiday sex, at least.

But if you fancy actually making that daydream a reality, you might need to do some pre-flight planning. And we’re not just talking condom-buying (although that’s important. Stay safe.).

It turns out that there are some airports where developing a crush is much more likely to happen.

When Dove discovered 8 out of 10 girls are ‘so concerned with the way they look that they opt out of important activities’, they made it their mission to do something about it.

Playing sport, visiting a doctor or attending school all rank as things girls avoid because they lack confidence in their appearance.

And with only 20% of women in a recent survey saying they had ‘high self-esteem’, Dove wanted to find out both what it would take to help boost the self-esteem of young women and to help ensure the next generation grow up having a positive relationship with their bodies.

So if your running is restricted to the treadmill at the gym, you might want to reconsider and take your jog outside.
