The word ‘breakdown’ tends to shut down conversations pretty quickly.
Even to someone dealing with mental illness, there’s something scary about the idea of having a breakdown.

Talking about it feels awkward – mostly because we all have an idea of what a ‘breakdown’ looks like, and it feels tough to talk to someone with the thought in the back of your mind that they’ve reached rock bottom.
But the only way we can make the idea of a breakdown less pants-shittingly scary is to, well, talk about it.
