Note to self, this is what happens when you try to get smart with Starbucks.

Just over a week ago, Vine user Jen Nubian (aka Jewish Jen) from Atlanta decided it would be funny to tell the Starbucks barista that her name was Beyoncé.

But, she quickly realised she was messing with the wrong barista.

The female staff member’s brilliant comeback put her firmly in her place.

‘This is what she gave me,’ Jen says in a Vine post captioned ‘touché #thatbackfired

After launching table service and gourmet burgers, McDonald’s has continued its ‘no, really, we can be fancy’ efforts with a snazzy new burger.

Presenting the Camembert burger. Sadly not called the Camemberger.

McDonald’s Japan (it’s always bloody Japan that gets the good Maccy D’s) has announced the launch of the Camembert Teritama Burger.

It’s a pork patty with teriyaki sauce, egg, lettuce, and a fairly chunky wedge of warm, gooey camembert – all nestled inside a sesame seed bun.

Meet your new favourite nail art trend. (Picture: Instagram/bobbo_young)

We’d fallen a bit out of love with the nail art thing.

It was all a bit too fiddly. It was a trend that either took itself much too seriously, or veered into little girl territory.

But this new take on fancying up your nails may have nail art a glorious thing once again.

Because unlike painted on lace effects or tiny sparkly crowns, this new take on nail art strikes the perfect balance between humour and class.

Presenting pom-pom nails (H/T Cosmopolitan). They’re very much a thing right now.

You know that achy feeling you get when you don’t reach climax, where you have to spend the next 10 minutes feeling uncomfortable until you can completely shake it off?

Ladies, we’re talking to you.

Yes guys, even though you may not hear of us complaining about our ‘blue balls’, it doesn’t mean we don’t feel your pain.

In a video posted in ‘Stuff Mom Never Told You’, one woman perfectly explains the sexual frustration women feel when they’re made to wait too long to reach the holy O.

The proposal
Finally, after four years, women can propose again (Picture: Warner Bros)

For traditionalists, just once every four years, on February 29 (Leap Day), a woman is allowed to take her destiny in her own hands and ask a man to marry her.

But, how and why did the Leap Year tradition come about?

Well, the tradition is thought to date back to the 5th century, when, legend has it, an Irish nun called St Bridget complained to St Patrick that women had to wait too long for their suitors to propose.

So, they struck a deal. St Patrick decreed this one day in February, which occurs once every four years, when women were allowed to propose.

Beyond Sushi is a vegan’s paradise

When you think of sushi you probably think raw fish. Most people do. But it doesn’t need to be that way.

You can get rolls stuffed with avocado, cucumber, and all sorts of exotic plants too.

Vegan sushi is huge in New York City (think Beyond Sushi, above) and it’s getting there in London and further afield in the UK as well.

British Japanese restaurants – chains and independents – are experimenting more and more and serving sushi filled with Japanese pickle, all kinds of mushrooms and even tempeh (fermented soy cake – a rare vegan treat).

Menus are being more clearly labelled and ranges are expanding.

Do you occasionally find yourself hankering for the choking aroma of a cheap smoke machine?

Do you have incense burning around your house even though the kids say the smell makes them feel sick?

Are your work clothes predominantly black and do you wistfully wonder why fishnet doesn’t feature so prominently in fashion mags these days?

All the women who are independent: throw your hands up at me. (Picture: Getty)

The song ‘Independent Women’ was made for you.

Because you don’t need anyone. You are all powerful. You rely only on yourself, you get sh*t done, and you’ve got your life handled.

You’re fiercely independent and proud. And anyone who can’t handle it needs to shape up, sharp.

Sure, it can feel a little lonely at the top. But don’t worry. There are other fiercely independent people among us. We understand you. We get you.

And these are the things we all understand.

1. You are entirely baffled when your friends with boyfriends/girlfriends suddenly start saying ‘we’

Never mind Mary, there’s something even better about gin.

We’re all in the middle of a fervid, maybe slightly emotional (particularly with rumours of a gin shortage in 2015… that was a tough time) love affair with gin.

And it’s not ending anytime soon.

Like all alcohol, there is still a thing as too much gin.

All alcohol leads to weight gain and liver disease, among other health problems.

And that will always remain the same, I am afraid.

But here’s why it’s actually okay to drink gin and tonic or martinis (in moderation) immediately.

Rejoice.

1) Gin has antioxidants that make you… Read the full story

There’s a scientific reason behind why you hate that fingernail-down-the-chalkboard sound so much

Remember that absolutely soul-crippiling sound of fingernails scraping a chalkboard?

Of course you do. Unless you’re young enough to have had whiteboards at school, that is.

But while it seems obvious that the sound itself is excruciating, it turns out there’s actually a scientific reason why we can’t stand the noise.

A group of researchers from the University of Cologne and the University of Austria believe it has something to do with the shape of the human ears and the way they have evolved.

They believe the ear amplifies sounds of different frequencies in a different way – and it might amplify the high pitch of the irritating chalkboard sounds more than other, more pleasant sounds.

In order to make the discovery, the researchers played fingernail-scraping clips to a group of volunteers.

And yes, we’re wanting to cry just thinking about it.

While half of the volunteers were told what the sounds were, the other half were told they were listening to… Read the full story

The otter pup was found alone and crying by the side of the road earlier this week in Tampa Bay, Florida.

She is now being looked after by Kris Porter, a licensed and experienced rehabilitator with Owl’s Nest Sanctuary for Wildlife.

Once you’re in, you can feed the foxes, hang out in their soothing presence, and generally have the best time ever.
