Why are we ashamed of asking for a tampon? (Picture: Getty)

It’s not a secret. We all know that periods are a thing that exist, and that loads of people in our lives have to go through them.

So why do we still treat having a period as such a shameful thing? Why do we feel like we have to smuggle tampons up our sleeves and in our pockets on our way from our desk to the toilets?

It’s ridiculous. And people are getting tired of it.

Which is probably why a Facebook status written by Chance Ward, a student at California’s Occidental College, has been shared more than 1,700 times, and liked more than 7,000 times.… Read the full story

Meet Penelope. Penelope is a teeny tiny piglet.

But she doesn’t really believe that. Penelope is convinced she’s a puppy, and nothing will convince her otherwise.

Penelope was rescued by animal lover Claudio De Nigris after she was rejected by her mother immediately after birth. When she was first adopted, she needed regular bottle feedings, constant care, and had to stay inside to keep safe.

Once she was ready to venture outside, Claudio let Penelope loose in his farm sanctuary in Eboli, Italy.

Oh, hey. It’s a four day weekend, the possibilities stretch ahead of you, and everything is glorious.

Except not really. Because you are working as normal, because your job is not one that abides by calendars and holidays. Everything is awful. Why must you go through such horror?

At least you’re not alone. Take some comfort in the fact that as you miserably trek to work at 7am while everyone’s tucked up in bed, there are others like you.

Sobbing. Sneaking Easter eggs from under their desk. And working all bank holiday long.

Even if you haven’t lived with your parents for some time, you still think of it as ‘going home’. It’s a place where you can relax, be yourself, and, crucially, not do any cooking.

Whenever you go home, though, you quickly revert to old bad habits that you thought you’d successfully shaken off. Here are some of those habits that we all find ourselves falling back into.

1. Your ‘young voice’ makes a return

2. It becomes very hard to get off the sofa

Holidays are great. Long lie-ins, walks on the beach, maybe a few cocktails.

But what happens when you’ve got a small person in tow?

Is it possible that you could still enjoy a long, leisurely lunch whilst your baby gurgles away happily in their pram?

Well yes, it is possible.

It’s also possible that you’ll be frantically caking your little cherub in factor 50 sun cream, whilst simultaneously brushing away rice-cakes and sand.

Here are 13 things you will know to be true if you’ve holidayed with a baby.

1. Holiday lie-ins are now a thing of the past – hello 6am starts

2. Early starts mean early finishes – there may be a cool bar around the corner, but… Read the full story

Eating chocolate as a pre-gym snack – it’s officially been science approved.

We already know how great dark chocolate is for our health. Seriously, every other week there’s a study telling us to eat one small square a day (rather than an entire bar of Dairy Milk).

And now, a new study suggests that dark chocolate has the power to seriously up your workouts, improving your stamina and endurance. Which is pretty sweet.

13 awkward things all parents do on social media

parents

You thought that your parents couldn’t make your life any more awkward, but then they proved you wrong by jumping on to the social media bandwagon.

Admittedly a few alarm bells did ring when your parents sent you a friend request, and quizzed you at length on how this whole Facebook/Twitter/Instagram malarkey works.

But like the good and decent human being that they raised you up to be, you did the kind thing by adding them and helping them set up their profile.

Little did you know that awkward situations would ensue.

1. They ‘Like’ EVERYTHING

There’s no doubt about it…we all love a good like on a selfie or a status about how we’ve just run our personal best.

But parents take this positive reinforcement a step too far by liking every single thing that we post. Even when it’s something as unimportant as you asking them on Facebook if they’ve received the ASOS parcel due for delivery today.

This man found out he was going to be a granddad in the most beautiful way.

In a totally tear-jerking video posted to YouTube, the couple gave their father (or father-in-law) a Build-A-Bear teddy for his birthday.

After opening the box and pulling out the bear, the grandfather-to-be looks slightly confused by the gift, but thanks them nonetheless.

Of course, he didn’t realise what was to come.

The couple, Sean and Jenn, told him that if he were to press the belly of the bear, he would hear a heartbeat, and if he were to press the hand, he’d hear a message.

ALL WRONG. (Picture: Getty)

Every lover of candles knows the struggle.

You buy a fancy new candle. You light it. You relax in joy. You blow it out. And then over time, you end up with a big sooty mess of a candle, with the outer edges unused as the middle burns away.

It’s called tunneling, and it sucks. Once it happens your only option is to try to chip out the wax and turn it into a new candle. And – let’s be honest – who can be bothered with that?

If you’ve ever used Tinder, you know that not everybody enjoys a chat-up line.

But, clearly, some do. And this girl was one of those who do.

When her match asked her whether she’d prefer a ‘classic Tinder pickup line’ or a modest ‘hey’, she went for the pickup line.

And, by the beard of Zeus, she was not disappointed.

It would be a genuinely horrific thing to accidentally send a nude to your boss instead of the guy you’ve been seeing, right?

Well, proving that not all fears are irrational, that exact thing has actually happened.

Even if it isn’t a mortifying naked shot you inadvertently share, there are plenty of truly embarrassing things you can accidentally send to a work colleague.

Such as details of a personal problem or an embarrassing medical issue meant only for the eyes of your best work friend…

Oh, the shame.

The worst part is that these things really do happen in real life to real people. And they’re talking about them in a forum which asked:… Read the full story

Marble nails are so dreamy, but so complicated.

The look involves blending and swirling complementary shades of polish for an organic, natural, cracked stone effect.

Unless you’re getting acrylics or you have a seriously good salon on speed dial though, creating the effect at home using nail polish is a pretty tricky job – though it can be mastered with practice.

But magnetic polishes are another way to cheat your way to marble-effect nails.
