If you thought the packed lunches your dad made you back at school were good, you’ve not seen anything yet.

Hong Kong-based food blogger and mother-of-two Candace Ku manages to turn boring rice balls into her children’s favourite cartoon characters every day.

Candace, who blogs under the name Candace Mama, painstakingly cuts ham and seaweed to create amazing, healthy bento boxes inspired by everyone from Harry Potter to Peppa Pig.

She started, she says, when her eldest daughter had to move schools four years ago and struggled to make new friends.

‘At the beginning of the school term, she came back home and told me she… Read the full story

You might be a bit sick of lifestyle bloggers these days, when all they seem to do is apply 100 layers of makeup and tell us things we already know.

But prepare to be completely inspired – both style-wise and life-wise by Mama Cax.

She was diagnosed with bone and lung cancer at 14 and given only three weeks to live – but she survived the disease.

Surviving the disease came at a price, however. Mama Cax had to have her right leg amputated. Today, she walks with a prosthetic leg with the help of two forearm crutches.

So cultured. (Picture: MORE TH>N)

Calling all cultural canines: finally, all dogs will have their day in a fancy art exhibition, created just for them.

MORE TH>N pet insurance has teamed up with British artist Dominic Wilcox, who curated a series of interactive art installations designed specifically to appeal to dogs.

We’re talking paintings of chicken drumsticks (in colours to fit the yellow-blue spectrum of dogs’ eyes, of course), forests, letters falling through a postbox, and a dog’s movements on a walk through the park.

The Italians are known for both gelato and pasta – so why not combine them?

There is a host of ice cream trends taking over our Instagram feeds this summer, from matcha soft serve and ice cream sandwiches to rolled ice cream and candy floss-ice cream mash-ups.

The latest trend could be this dish: ‘spaghettieis’. Invented by an ice cream manufacturer named Dario Fontanella during the 1960s, spaghettieis hails from Germany and has not yet reached British ice cream parlours.

Thankfully, it’s easy to make this fun dessert yourself. Simply press vanilla ice cream through a potato ricer to make noodles and top with a sauce that looks like… Read the full story

The majority of us have only fleeting, surface-level interactions with the homeless community.

We stop to give them money. We say ‘sorry’ when we don’t have any change. We rush around and don’t have time to stop and speak to the strangers we see.

It’s understandable. But it’s a shame.

Especially because this is not how homeless people want to be seen.

Just like anyone else, people living on the streets have dreams and aspirations – and that’s what Horia Manolache wants to show in his book, The Prince and the Pauper.

This comic about a dog saying goodbye to its owner is leaving thousands in tears

It’s not that often a comic strip can bring us to tears. But a heartbreaking comic about a dog saying farewell to its owner is doing just that.

The cartoon tells the story of a dog that is about to be put down thanking its owner for all the love it received over the years they spent together.

The emotional illustration has been leaving people in pieces – with some wondering whether the sadness will ever stop. Seriously.

Despite the comic being shared thousands of times recently, it was actually created back in 2014. The man behind it, Mark Glavin, told Metro.co.uk that he was inspired to write it by a post on Reddit two years ago.

Getting ready to start university can be a worrying time for the best of us. What if our halls are sh*t? What if the course is too hard? What if everyone’s a complete a***hole?

Nothing can allay or confirm these fears more than those horrible freshers’ Facebook groups, designed to help everyone meet each other before they set foot on campus.

Which is why, if you really must join them, you just have to style it out and be as cool or banterous as possible.

One engineering fresher, however, decided to take the opposite approach and penned the most horrific introduction in university history.

If you have, it’s unlikely you’ve gone as far as this guy, who beautifully renamed each of his Pokemon after his girlfriend in all her guises.

Most people agree that the key to a long life is plenty of exercise and healthy eating.

But one Hindu monk, who claims to be 120 years old, says that the secret to his incredible longevity is down to having no sex or spices.

According to his passport, Swami Sivananda was born on 8 August 1896, meaning that if his claim is accurate, his life has spanned across three centuries.

And despite his incredible age, he’s still got the core strength to practise yoga for hours every day.

Swami grew up in the holy city of Varanasi in extreme poverty and, when at six years old his parents died, he was given by… Read the full story

MARMITE MONDAYS! (Picture: Marmite x Jinn)

Mondays are tough. It’s a cliché for a reason.

The previous weekend has left you exhausted and missing your bed. The upcoming weekend is so, so far away.

There are only a few things that can get you through a Monday at work, and, as most offices don’t allow you to come into work wearing pyjamas or carrying puppies, a great mid-morning snack has to be the answer.

But alas, we are lazy. And cannot be bothered to bake our own delicious treats or remember to pick something up on the way into the office.

So we’re forever grateful to Marmite for teaming up with Jinn for… Read the full story

The evergrowing list of London nightclub closures is completely unacceptable

The official launch of London’s Night Tube is finally happening.

It’s a service that the city has been crying out for for decades. But it is a celebration that rings hollow thanks to the absolute decimation of London’s night life.

Ex-promoter Barry Ashworth of Dub Pistols posting a list that reads like one hell of an obituary brings that home.

Here’s what Sadiq Khan said to the DJs pleading for Fabric to stay open

The names of many of the capital’s greatest night spots are shown, all of which – for whatever reason – are simply no more.

And this list isn’t comprehensive: it doesn’t include Elephant and Castle’s Coronet which is soon to be knocked down and turned into flats, Madame Jo Jos, 333’s name change, Astoria, the Astoria 2, The Joiners Arms, The Silver Bullet, Vibe Bar and so many more.

Club closures have been going on under the surface for years, recently however… Read the full story

A miniature schnauzer has learned to stand like a statue next to stuffed toy versions of her breed so that her owners can challenge their friends to an online game of ‘spot the dog’.

An artist who created a pet Tinder is now hosting a speed dating event for dogs

Janet Shervill, 74, is obsessed with the breed and owns three other dogs – as well as hundreds of schnauzer toys, statues and other bits of memorabilia.

And she discovered that her 11-year-old pooch Molly loves hiding in among the teddies and stand completely still if she knows… Read the full story

This illustration perfectly explains why women will be shamed whatever they wear
(Picture: Twitter/Lasauvagejaune)

Dress codes. Reactions to rape. Cat calls.

Wherever women are concerned, what we wear comes up as an issue, over and over again.

When a woman is raped, she’s asked what she was wearing, as if her outfit choices somehow control whether or not she will be a victim of sexual assault.

When a woman dresses in a crop top, she’s ‘asking for attention’. When she covers up, she’s ‘oppressed’.

A woman’s outfit choices are a battleground. It’s not fair. It’s impossible to please anyone. And it’s deeply frustrating to be unable to go ahead and wear whatever we want without judgment.

Loads of parents debate whether to use the carrot and stick approach when trying to educate their kids.

Soon you'll be able to stay in the world's first beer themed hotel

But one mum has actually proved that it totally works… for the adult at least.

An orangutan used a stick to retrieve a carrot that had fallen into a lake

Determined not to let the carrot escape, 24-year-old Jazz grabbed a wooden branch nearby and after a lot of prodding and poking managed to stretch out and grab the prize.

But rather than offering it to the child, Jazz then gobbled it without… Read the full story

Adam Hargreaves is an incredible artist who set out to create the most magical Disney-inspired room for his young daughter.

Documenting two days of work on his Instagram, the artist combined the likes of The Lion King, 101 Dalmations, Lady And The Tramp, The Little Mermaid and Aladdin into one large masterpiece of a wall mural.

With all the different characters worked into familiar backdrops, the mural is the perfect thing for a little girl’s room – or in fact for any Disney fan.
