A 28-year-old woman has moved the hearts of hundreds after posting a photo of herself and an elderly woman she had met at a local bus stop to her Facebook page.

Gemma Louise Donhou, who is originally from Australia, befriended 91-year-old Edna as the pair waited for a bus in Perranporth, Cornwall.

The pair began chatting and before they knew it, they were giggling away and snapping selfies, with Gemma referring to Edna as her ‘new mate’.

What could possibly make lounging in the sun, cocktail in hand on an inflatable pool lounger any more relaxing?

If that inflatable was a terrifying looking cockroach, apparently.

Yes, you can now soak up the sun on your very own oversized insect. It really is a thing of nightmares.

Closer than you think (Picture: RADEK MICA/AFP/Getty Images)

Huge news. For a short time in September, Ikea meatballs will be a mere tube journey away for Londoners.

Look, we all know those Ikea meatballs are the only reason for trekking out to Croydon on your weekend. Those and maybe a pot plant or two, or some wooden coat hangers and, oh I’ll just chuck in a lime green cuddly snake as I’m here…

Anyway, Ikea is opening a pop-up cafe, shop and DIY dining club in, yes, you’ve guessed it, Shoreditch next month, so those meatballs will soon be within easy reach.

The main space at the N&C Showrooms in Shoreditch High Street will be dedicated to the DIY Restaurant, where… Read the full story

Seriously, wash your sheets. (Picture: Getty)

We all know that we’re not washing our bedsheets enough.

We’re all gross. Disgusting, really. And even the joy of slipping into freshly dried sheets will not convince us to stop being lazy, get up, and shove our sheets in the washing machine.

We justify our unhygienic actions by telling ourselves that it’s just some innocent laziness. So our sheets aren’t super fresh. So what?

But it turns out that failing to regularly wash your sheets can have some seriously disgusting consequences on our health.

Admit it, there aren’t many things cuter than a fluffy cat with one eye.

They just look silly, which is adorable. They look like they’re winking, or surprised, or like little pirates. And they’re cats, which guarantees cuteness regardless of how many eyes they have.

Add a brilliant name, and we’re obsessed.

And so we fully expect everyone to fall in love with Spaghettio. Spaghettio (great name) is a fluffy black and white cat with one eye.

But she’s not just cute on a superficial level. Spaghettio is an inspiration. Her owner, Meghan, told BoredPanda that Spaghettio lost her eye and was seriously injured… Read the full story

Apparently, staff are more motivated by compliments and pizza than they are by small cash bonuses (large cash bonuses are known to work pretty effectively, but, obviously, only bankers get those).

And there’s a real life study to prove it. Not just an imaginary study I did in my head and told my boss about.

In his new book ‘Payoff: The Hidden Logic That Shapes Our Motivations’, best-selling author Dan Ariely explains how he carried out an exercise in motivation with employees at an Intel factory in Israel.

For people with disabilities and invisible illnesses, TFL’s new move could be life-changing.

TFL has announced the launch of a new badge and card system designed to encourage passengers to offer their seats to anyone who is less able to stand.

The ‘please offer me a seat’ badge will work in the same way as the ‘baby on board’ badges for pregnant women, allowing the wearer to alert other passengers to their need to sit down without having to go through the awkwardness of asking someone to stand up.

Some people will go out of their way to win an argument.

Many years ago, after a heated discussion with classmates about how to pronounce Ralph Lauren correctly, Tovah Silbermann, now a New York-based comedy booking agent, actually wrote to the man himself asking him for clarification. In her defence, she was in 8th grade (so about 14).

You see, Tovah pronounces it ‘LAUren’ like the girl’s name, whereas others pronounced it ‘Lau-REN’.

We’re pleased to say that Tovah eventually received an official response from Ralph Lauren. We’re even more pleased to say that Tovah had the official response framed.

And, this weekend, she finally shared her… Read the full story

Stop what you’re doing. Whatever it is, it’s not as important as taking a little time out of your day to look at a little hedgehog eating a spoonful of apple. This is important. It’s for your emotional wellbeing.

Azuki is a little hedgehog living in Japan. He has more than 30,000 followers on Instagram, because he is cute and wonderful.

Azuki the hedgehog likes massages, naps, and baths.

His favourite food is apple. But Azuki does not enjoy sitting up and eating his own apple, like the rest of us idiots. He just gets someone to chop up his apple, put it… Read the full story

You’ve put on your favourite dress. Your hair’s looking great. You’re relaxed, you’re feeling good, and you’re ready to take your photos.

There’s just one thing you hadn’t prepared for: a naked man taking his dog for a walk, in the exact area you’re having your photo taken.

Oh.

Jillian Henry was posing for her senior photos knee-deep in a lake (that’s commitment), when she turned around and noticed a man walking by.

That man was walking a dog. Naked.

So pretty. (Picture: Takumi Ota)

Retirement homes aren’t usually the stuff of interior design inspiration.

The nicer ones have a few cosy blankets strewn around, proper food being served, and – if you’re really lucky – a pool. That’s about it.

But this retirement home is something special.

Tokyo-based architect Issei Suma is the creator of a stunning multi-home complex called Jikka, located in the peaceful forest and mountain region of Shizuoka, in Japan.

Jikka has been specifically designed to provide meals and care for a small community of elderly Japanese people.

OK, bucket list time. Hands up who didn’t include the crown jewel of Central America?

Yet Costa Rica has some of the most exotic wildlife in the world, postcard perfect Pacific and Caribbean beaches, seemingly-endless tropical forests and atmospheric cloud capped volcanoes.

It overwhelms from the moment you step off the plane in San Jose.

Well, OK, admittedly the capital isn’t particularly interesting – like much of the country’s food, it’s more function than form.

Yet this opening wedge for most international visitors stands surrounded by stunning misty peaks boring giant pathways through the jungle beyond.

So lesson number one is always have your camera ready.

In June, singer Alicia Keys wrote a powerful blog for LennyLetter.com explaining why she’d decided to stop wearing makeup.

In it, she talked about the pressure put on girls from a young age to conform to society’s standards of beauty. She also wrote about how she constantly tried to change her appearance when she was younger, to fit in with the person the music industry wanted her to be.

‘I started, more than ever, to become a chameleon. Never fully being who I was, but constantly changing so all the “theys” would accept me,’ she explained.

After a period of reflection, she decided to stop wearing… Read the full story

A mum really had to use all her creative talents to fulfill her four-year-old’s farmyard-themed birthday cake request – but we think she’s nailed it.

Because, while there are plenty of tutorials showing parents how to knock up a Thomas the Tank Engine cake (also, you can buy them at M&S, just FYI), there are no YouTube videos that explain how to depict a cow giving birth to her calf out of sponge and icing.

That was exactly the challenge set for Canadian mum Jamie Packard, whose youngest son Benz absolutely loves farms – both his aunt and uncle and his grandparents… Read the full story

Falling asleep in class was always awkward. Especially if your friends didn’t wake you up and you were alarmingly awoken by a very angry teacher.

But one man seems to have mastered the art of falling asleep in class – making sure that you can snooze in peace without getting caught.

YouTuber Zach King demonstrated his method – which showed him balancing a picture of himself blown up on a poster board in front of him as he slept – in a recent video.

He wore the same outfit as was shown in the picture and positioned it perfectly so that the board blended perfectly with the rest… Read the full story

Urban Decay comes under fire after people think makeup tweet mocks self-harm

Twitter users have been heavily criticising Urban Decay after they felt an advert for one of the brand’s latest eyeshadow palette releases referred to self-harm.

Urban Decay promoted their latest palette, Razor Sharp Swatches, in a tweet which used the image of a model’s wrist covered in colour swatches.

The swatches were produced in thin, horizontal lines all across the wrist and inner forearm, and some assumed they were replicating self-harm scars.

Urban Decay were quick to delete the tweet when Twitter users fought back – but not quick enough for users to take a screengrab of the image and before posting it to their own accounts.

Many users thought the tweet was far too blatant for anyone on Urban Decay’s marketing team to not know how offensive… Read the full story
