Kyle Schwartz teaches at Doull Elementary School in Denver, Colorado. She’s been teaching there for five years.

One day, she decided she wanted to get to know her third grade class (8/9-year-olds) better so she asked them to finish this sentence: ‘I wish my teacher knew…’

When she collected the answers back in she was amazed that such a simple exercise had revealed so much. Some answers were funny, some were heartbreaking.

In fact, she was shocked by the enormity of what some of her young students were dealing with outside of lessons, without her… Read the full story

Welcome to the Great Britain of 2016. Rent in the capital is high, homeownership for many remains an impossible dream and nobody can accurately predict the economic consequences of the vote to say adieu to the European Union. In other words, you could be forgiven for wanting to save a few shekels.

If you have never been fortunate enough to visit Amsterdam (and I suggest you remedy that at the earliest opportunity), you might have been given the impression that the gedoogcultuur – Amsterdam’s famous culture of permissiveness – leads to the sort of scenes you might see at a… Read the full story

We totally get it. There’s nothing worse than being squished into a confined space for hours on a busy flight.

Sometimes, you want to have a bit of a stretch.

But maybe doing headstands in your seat is taking things a little too far.

Raad Mobrem, co-founder of WeDo.com was on a busy flight two-and-a-half-hour flight from Los Angeles to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, a week ago, when a woman in a seat in front of him started to do some yoga.

After doing a series of neck stretches, she proceeded to do a headstand on the seat.

Impressed, Raad filmed a brief clip and shared it on Twitter, writing: ‘That… Read the full story

Artist Hein Koh has shared a picture of her breastfeeding her twin daughters to show other mums you can have children and still get sh*t done.

Koh, a sculptor and artist from New York, shared the picture, which was taken in May 2015 in response to an interview performance artist Marina Abramović did recently where she said having children would have been ‘a disaster for her work’.

‘One only has limited energy in the body, and I would have had to divide it,’ she told German paper Tagesspiegel.

Koh disagrees that you can’t have children and have a successful career in the art world. While she appreciates that this was Marina’s… Read the full story

A few weeks ago, a little sea otter pup named Rialto was found stranded on the beach.

Rialto was in critical condition – thin, weak, and in desperate need of care. Otter pups usually stay with their mother until they’re fully grown, so this was pretty unusual. Rialto needed help, and he needed it fast.

Thankfully he was quickly taken to the Seattle Aquarium, who – despite not being an official otter rehabilitation centre – were able to provide treatment to quickly get the otter back to health.

Why does our skin freak out whenever we have a long-haul flight? (Picture: Getty/metro.co.uk)

Ever been on a flight, popped to the toilets, and noticed your skin is a strange mixture of tight, dry, and slick with oil?

‘Course you have. It’s a struggle. It’s why so many beauty blogger types use their flight time as an opportunity to scrub off all their makeup and do a face mask (which we’d recommend, by the way. It feels luxurious AF).

Now, if you’ve ever wondered why sitting on a plane wrecks your skin, it turns out there’s a lot of complex stuff going on.

WHY? (Picture: Instagram/toneostensen)

You can’t stop buying clothes. Your wardrobe is overflowing. And yet for some reason, you find your self constantly repeating outfits, wearing the same thing over and over again for weeks on end.

WHY?

It’s a question we ponder every time we stare into our wardrobes and have no clue what to wear. It doesn’t make sense. Something is going wrong here and we don’t know what it is.

Bustle has answered this pressing question with an investigation, looking into why we all rely on such a tiny percentage of the clothes in our wardrobe.

Earlier this week, Simone Anderson shared a weight loss transformation video, showing her incredible weight loss over the last two years. The change in her appearance was so extreme, some people struggled to believe it was the same person in the before and after pictures.

Simone, 24, a freelance hair and makeup artist from New Zealand, started what she calls her ‘journey to health’ two years ago, on August 29, 2014.

We’ve all read the stories of people walking over the edge of cliffs and off the end of piers because they’re too engrossed in their phones.

If that wasn’t enough to make you glance up from your screen once in a while, perhaps this story might convince you.

Florida woman Teliece Sander was playing games on her phone in her garage when she glanced up to find herself eyeballing a 300lb bear.

At one point, she told a local news station, the bear was so close she could feel its breath on her face. She added that she ‘wasn’t breathing a whole lot,’ herself.

We all know the breakout star of Star Wars The Force Awakens was the little round orange droid.

Sphero have long promised the release of a wristband that would allow you to control your droid using Jedi-esque hand gestures (basically the Force. Also known as Bluetooth).

Well, finally, that day is here. We give you the Force Band. If you’re wondering why it looks all bashed up, that’s the intention – it’s supposed to… Read the full story

The battle of mindfulness against social media continues. And the seagulls have picked a side.

Team mindful advocates putting down your phone and enjoying the moment. Team social media says hey, I can enjoy the moment – just after I’ve taken 43 photos of my food held in front of a pretty backdrop until I manage to get one that’s Instagram worthy.

You go away for 9 weeks and the neighbours remodel your home (Picture: SWNS)

Nine weeks ago, the Cassidy family packed up and travelled out to America so their three-year-old little girl Emily could receive life-saving cancer treatment, after a tumour was found behind her eye.

They left behind a family home in Stechford, Birmingham, that had seen better days. The house had damaged walls, while the roof and windows needed repair and refurbishment, all of which had let in damp and mould.

Yesterday, the family returned home after Emily had responded well to treatment – to find the… Read the full story

We’ve all gone a bit mad in our quest for likes (Picture: Giphy)

Remember before Facebook existed when you had less than 20 friends and had absolutely no idea what your childhood sweetheart was up to now?

How on earth did we ever make it through the day without knowing what Jackie from work is making for dinner or whether or not your brother-in-law is at the gym?

It seems to me that Facebook has turned us into a nation of nosy parkers and egotists who behave in a way we never would in real life.

The fashion industry has a problem.

Despite constant calls for models in campaigns and fashion magazines that look more like the average woman, it still feels like women have to search, hard, for women who look like them on billboards and in fashion ads.

The industry is lacking in diversity in terms of race, body type, and age.

And these models are tired of it.

The All Woman Project is a new campaign created by Charli Howard, a British model who was told she was ‘too big’ (she was a size six) to get work in the industry, and Clémentine Desseaux, a body-positive blogger.

A mum has written an open letter to Clarks praising one of their employees for going out of his way to help her young son with autism feel calm in a busy store.

Mum-of-two Gem Salter, 29, from Bridgwater, Somerset, needed to get six-year-old son River some new shoes for school. So, last week, she and husband Tim took him to the Clarks outlet store in Street.

However, River, who was diagnosed with autism at 23-months-old, has heightened senses so he struggles with noisy, busy, brightly lit, public spaces.

Nobody likes to run late on taking their kids to school – especially if it means having to face their teachers with an explanation for said lateness.

The All Woman Project is calling for diversity in the fashion industry

You could say your car broke down, your bus was late or you could blame it on your child entirely and tell their teacher that they refused to carry their own book bag that morning (or, you know, you could have a real reason).

Either way, each explanation is completely valid so why not just go with it?

Well, apparently, a get-out clause just wasn’t on one mother’s mind.

Instead, after arriving at her child’s school late, she decided to just be honest about it when filling in a ‘Reason for being tardy’ box in the school check-in book.
