Dairy free Ben & Jerry's

Great news vegans and lactose intolerants – Ben & Jerry’s is creating the answer to your ice cream prayers.

Today, in an exclusive Metro.co.uk interview, Ben & Jerry’s co-founder Jerry Greenfield said the team are working on a ‘delicious’ dairy-free ice cream.

He said Ben & Jerry’s would be using coconut milk or almond milk as the base for the new frozen sweet treat.

Jerry added he hoped it would mean a lot to all those who can’t eat dairy.

He said: ‘I think that’s a big thing for Ben & Jerry’s to be doing that.

‘In the US there are (dairy free) alternatives from smaller companies but Ben & Jerry’s will be first mainstream company that will do that and will also do it in a really delicious way.’

Dairy-free Ben & Jerry’s will be available in the US in spring next year (2016) and a little later in the UK.

It’s a sad day when your favourite ice cream is discontinued.

You might think that being a co-founder of one of the best-loved ice creams in the world might except you from this, but you would be wrong.

Today, in an exclusive interview for Metro.co.uk, Ben & Jerry’s co-founder Jerry Greenfield revealed his secret heartbreak.

He said: ‘Ben’s and my favouirite flavours aren’t being made.

It doesn’t matter if you’re Ben or Jerry, if it doesn’t sell it gets discontinued.’

And the ice cream he pines for? Coconut Almond Fudge Chip.

He said he thought the fact coconut is ‘very polarising’ could be behind the fact others weren’t as taken with it as he.

Meanwhile, Ben Cohen’s favourite Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, Mocca Walnut, has also kicked the bucket.

Explaining the secret to Ben & Jerry’s success, Jerry said: ‘It’s easy to do things lousy – it’s hard to do things right.’

It’s all about how you use them (Picture: Getty)

According to a new study, those wet wipes that have made cleaning so convenient could actually be spreading bacteria rather than killing it.

The Cardiff University study claimed that the detergent wipes could be helping to spread hospital superbugs in hospitals, as well as increasing the risk of infections in the home.

Scientists tested seven commercially available detergent wipes which are used in hospitals across the UK on common infections, including MRSA and C. difficile.

As well as showing ‘huge variability’ in their ability to remove bacteria, the wipes also ‘repeatedly transferred significant amounts of bacteria’ from one surface to another.

Study author Professor Jean-Yves Maillard said of their findings: ‘This is the first report on the effectiveness of the… Read the full story

Remember when we were all chucking ice cold water over our heads for a good cause?

This latest social media challenge is about keeping a little more dry. Yup.

The #JustATampon challenge is a campaign aiming to get people to share a selfie with a tampon to break the stigma around periods.

And it has taken off big time.

Stand up comic Jenny Eclair wrapped one on her ear.

C4 News presenter Cathy Newman gave hers a good dangle in front of the camera.

As did this person.

Dermal fillers to plump up your vag, ladies? (Picture: Getty Images)

Genital enhancement is the latest in cosmetic trends. Yes, that’s plumping down there by injecting dermal fillers. Think on that for a minute.

If your immediate reaction to this was ‘why, WHY would you do that?’, as ours was, read on for the big reveal.

Apparently demand is high for these cosmetic jabs because women and men want their bits looking, to quote Jay Z, Young Forever.

‘Simply put, a lot of women want a ‘young vagina”, explains Harley Street skin specialist Dr Neetu Nirdosh.

‘They don’t like the aesthetic look of a saggy, deflated floppy vagina and see cosmetic dermal fillers as saviour’.

Requests for genital enhancement procedures may be high, but Dr Nirdosh explains… Read the full story

Dana Donofree knows first-hand what it’s like to battle breast cancer and desperately search for underwear that’s comfortable and makes you feel like you again.

The day before her 28th birthday, and two months before her wedding in 2010, Dana was diagnosed with infiltrative ductal carcinoma, a type of breast cancer.

She spent the next year in and out of hospital, going through a bilateral mastectomy, reconstructive surgery and gruelling chemotherapy sessions.

She told Elite Daily: ‘I spent an entire year dedicated and focused on beating breast cancer. In and out of surgeries, in and out [of] chemo treatments, dealing with the side effects, and trying to navigate through this world that… Read the full story

No one ever forgets their first true friend. That first person who really gets you, who has your back in the playground, and rules the sandpit by your side.

While some of us spend our whole lives joined at the hip with our BFF, others are sometimes torn apart by forces outside of our control (parental whims, mum/dad’s new job etc.)

Take Holly Boddington-Bullett and her best friend Evie, from Deanshanger in Northamptonshire.

Holly is seven and a half-years-old and she’s been best friends with Evie ‘since forever’. They live two doors down from each other and are in the same class at school.

Sadly, last week, Evie had to move away.… Read the full story

Ladies what gossip. (Picture: Camerique/Getty Images)

It’s official, gossiping is what makes us human – but why, when and how often do we do it?

We caught up with Dr Jennifer Cole, a senior lecturer in the Department of Psychology at Manchester University, to get all the details on gossiping.

Here’s what you need to know.

1. What is it that makes us gossip? There are four main functions of gossip:
a. Information (to learn about our social group)

b. Influence (to influence the reputation of others)

c. Entertainment (passing the time)

d. Social bonding (making and maintaining friendship)

Recently, it has also been proposed that there is an additional function, which is Group Protection, this is where… Read the full story

Look out for the cock-o-van this summer (Picture: Nando’s)

Because we all know nothing rounds off a great day quite like a cheeky Nando’s.

Forget suspect burgers and salmonella sausages, this summer you’ll actually be able to get Nando’s at three major UK music festivals.

Amazing, right?

Nando’s will be setting up shop from their Cock o’ Van (naughty!) at Lovebox, Bestival and Camp Bestival this summer, to give the masses (that’s us) what they really really want – aka. sexy PERi-PERi CHICKEN.

Obviously, being a food van Nando’s have had to scale down the menu, but will be offering a festival appropriate no-cutlery-needed menu of burgers, wraps and wings with sides of chips (yes, they’re bringing their PERi-PERi salt with them, don’t worry) and corn.

You know that whole ‘one size fits all’ fashion thing? Well if you weren’t calling BS on the label before, take a look at this absolute gem of a review from a disbelieving Amazon customer.

Christy (who goes by the username of sb043) from Houston, Texas was completely stunned after seeing the top her 16-year-old daughter ordered off Amazon upon arrival.

So small was the one size crochet bralet, sold by Comemall, that she decided to model it on the family cat. Not even kidding.

She then took a photo of said cat in said top and posted it alongside a customer review on Amazon to make her point, going in strong with the… Read the full story

The whole world’s feeling blue.

We can finally all agree on one thing – and it’s the colour blue.

A recent YouGov survey carried out in 10 countries – the UK, Germany, USA, Australia, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia – found blue was our favourite colour. Yep, we’ve all got a predilection for azures, indigos and baby blues.

In the UK, 33 per cent of us like blue best, the highest out of all the countries polled. But, regardless of continent, the colour still triumphed by a considerable margin.

There was some division among the genders – in both the UK and the US, 40 per cent of guys picked blue as their favourite colour,… Read the full story

Now we’re cooking on gas. Well, it’s electric but you know what we mean.

The June Intelligent Oven (or June to her friends) sees your food and works out how to cook it for you. It basically means we’re all Gordon Ramsay now – admittedly, a pretty scary thought.

Created by a San Francisco start up, the oven is a little larger than a microwave and can fit a full sized 12″ pizza or a Sunday roast.

It comes with WiFi, a built-in wide-angle HD camera, a five-inch touch screen display, and a digital scale.

All of which is a snazzy way of saying that when you put your food in, it identifies it, weighs it, and cooks it to perfection, maintaining a perfect temperature… Read the full story

Granddad James is perhaps an unlikely hero (Picture: CNN)

Superheroes don’t always come wearing capes. Just ask Clark Kent.

Aussie James Harrison may look like an average guy but he’s saved the lives of more than two million children.

Now 78, he discovered his life-saving abilities after a major operation to remove a lung at the age of 14, in 1951. During the operation, he received 13 litres of blood donated by strangers.

It inspired him to become a blood donor himself. Shortly after his first donation at the age of 18, he got a call from doctors that would change his life – and those of many, many others.

The doctors said his blood contained an antibody that could be used to treat a deadly disease affecting pregnant… Read the full story
