Anyone who has spent time with a cat knows the drill. They’re standoffish at first. Then they let you give them a little stroke. They get into it. They purr. And if you stop, they’ll proceed to headbutt your hand, look generally pissed off, and even resort to scratching.

Turns out wombats aren’t too different.

Sandi the wombat enjoys a good petting session (H/T The Dodo). But she’s not just going to sit around and wait for one.

She’s a strong, independent wombat. She’ll ask – through spinning, running into your legs, and generally kicking up a fuss.

It’s pancake day in six days!

Arguably the best food-themed day on the annual calendar.

But with eggs, milk and flour as the main ingredients, pancakes are two thirds non-vegan – and completely off the menu for vegan coeliacs.

We’ve scoured Pinterest for some variations on the theme so everyone can get involved no matter their allergies, intolerances, preferences or belief systems.

The full recipes are linked in the titles.

Love is…cake (Picture: Cake Style/Instagram)

Let’s face, nothing says ‘I love you’ like cake. Especially a layered vanilla cake slathered in rose pink icing and then decorated to look like a beautiful giant pink rose.

It is, in our opinion, the perfect Valentine’s meal for one. Or, you know, you could share it.

This romantic sponge-spun dream of a cake is the work of professional cake eater and cake blogger Vanessa, of YouTube channel Cake Style.

All it takes is a lot of love, a little patience, and a trolley-load of modelling chocolate.

Here’s how she does it:

Not all cats are the grumpy, people-hating creatures society makes them out to be.

Well, maybe they are. But they don’t always look miserable and humanity-hating. This one, called Rey (yes, after the Star Wars character) has the cutest little resting happy face we’ve ever seen.

Her mouth is always upturned. Her eyes look deep into your soul. We could never, ever say no to this cat. We’d shower her with treats and never let her out of our sight.

You can now get a vegan stuffed crust pizza.

‘But what the hell is it stuffed with?’, we hear you cry.

Turns out their stuffed crust base is filled with coconut-based Violife cheese.

It’s on sale at Europe’s first and only all-vegan Italian sit-down restaurant where all food and drinks are 100% plant-based and cruelty free.

Purezza just opened in Brighton at the end of November 2015 and offers more than 20 types of pizza toppings and three types of pizza base – including a gluten-free one and one stuffed with melted cheese, which they say is a world first.

They mainly use a soya-based cheese for pizza bases, but on their four cheese… Read the full story

Don’t panic, parents, but you may need to put this condition on your baby-health-monitoring radar.

Scott Walker, a Kansas-based father of two, is sharing a photo of his baby’s foot for a very important reason: to make sure other parents are aware of a dangerous condition, and know what to do in case it happens to their child.

Scott and his wife, Jessica, welcomed baby Molly into their family back in September.

She was born a few weeks early and experienced complications immediately after her birth, but recovered in hospital and is now happy and healthy.

What if we were honest on dates? (Picture: Getty)

First dates are awkward, nerve-wracking, and mostly made up of uncomfortable pauses between pointless small talk.

Why? It’s all that social pressure. We have to be our best selves. We’re not allowed to ask certain questions, or reveal certain things.

It’s like you’re walking on eggshells the entire night, trying to get to know someone by asking them about their job and what they got up to that weekend instead of the big stuff.

But what if things were different? What if it was okay to ask whatever the heck you wanted?

What would you ask?

Still lovin’ it (Picture: McDonald’s)

When did we all fall out of love with McDonald’s?

Why is it suddenly okay to go for a cheeky Nando’s three times a week, but hurl abuse at Maccy’s under every single news story and accuse them of making burgers out of cows’ eyelashes and slime?

What’s with all the McBashing?

It probably all began with Super Size Me, a 2004 documentary that set out to expose the burger chain by proving, once and for all, that eating a supersize meal three times a day, every day for 30 days is not good for your health.

As if anyone ever thought otherwise. As if eating any fast food for 30… Read the full story

Drunk people are annoying (Picture: Getty)

The hardest thing about giving up alcohol? No, it’s not the social awkwardness, the horrors of dancing sober or the struggle to stay on the wagon.

It’s the fact that other people just don’t get it.

On the upside, you’ll have glowing skin, looser clothes and a heavier wallet in no time. Here are 11 things you’ll know if you’ve called time on alcohol.

1. Other people are annoying

There’s no way around it, when you’re sober, drunk people are intolerable. The loud voices, the sudden shrieks, the relentless laughter at unfunny things… it all makes you want to throw down gin with indecent haste.

2. You’re a free taxi

Everyone expects you to drive,… Read the full story

And now vegan, dairy-free Ben & Jerry’s has arrived.

There’s four scrumptious-looking ice creams to choose from, and they read like a who’s who of our favourite flavours.

The new, vegan Ben & Jerry’s flavours are Chunky Monkey, Chocolate Fudge Brownie, PB & Cookies and Coffee Caramel Fudge.

The latter two are new flavours.

How are they vegan? Well, they’re all made with almond milk and other certified vegan ingredients.

One man’s hilarious but somewhat obvious attempt at claiming £250,000 on a National Lottery scratch card has gone viral, after he posted a picture of the ‘winning’ scratchcard to the National Lottery Facebook page.

Johnny Smith, from Ossett, West Yorkshire, posted a picture of his worn out scratchcard, pointing out the fact that while his card did reveal three £250,000 figures in the end column, which means he should be able to ‘start shopping at Waitrose in the near future’ – both bar codes had been ‘removed by a small fire’, which had also gone on to damage the game number itself.

Adding to his long list of blunders, he… Read the full story

If you can’t beat them, you might as well join them.

Hellmann’s is launching its own vegan mayo after months of trying to sue a rival.

The sauce giant dropped its campaign against Just Mayo after months of trying to sue them for false advertising.

It said Just Mayo’s name was misleading because it doesn’t contain eggs, a stipulation required by the federal standard of identity for mayonnaise.

Now Hellmann’s is launching its own eggless version called Carefully Crafted Dressing and Sandwich Spread.

The ‘free from’ product is labelled as free from eggs, as well as other undesirables such as cholesterol and artificial colours and flavours.

The company said it will hit shelves in the US and Canada later this month. As yet there is no information about a UK launch date, though vegan brands like Just Mayo and Vegenaise are available in British health food stores like Planet Organic and Whole Foods.

23 things only people who hate hugs know

Get. Off. (Picture: Youtube/Summit Entertainment)

It is a truth universally acknowledged that hugs are a torture device encouraged only to uphold social norms, not for anyone’s actual enjoyment.

Well, universally acknowledged by people who truly cannot stand hugs, anyway. Rational people. People who can see great evil in the world and won’t wrap their arms around it in a welcoming embrace.

Hugs are the worst. It’s a travesty that we, as a society, haven’t yet found a replacement for what is quite clearly an outdated an entirely inpractical method of greeting and expressing affection.

And the worst part of it all? Us hug-haters are treated like weirdos. Emotionally closed off monsters with intimacy issues.

Do you remember trading Pokemon cards at lunch time in the school playground?

Competition over who had the best cards was all too real.

But did you ever stop to think about the kids who couldn’t afford them?

Reddit user one23abc, (amazing username, we know), now 22, has revealed how he and his brother loved cards when they were younger – but they couldn’t afford them.

Instead of getting upset though, they decided to get creative and make their own.

Between them, they managed to create a huge box of cards that went on to last them 10 years.

The amount of detail in each card is truly incredible.
