When you think about it, the meat industry could be considered to be pretty gruesome – but many meat-eaters turn a blind eye.

But now, activists keen to get others to truly understand the realities of animal agriculture are actually paying people to watch a film about it.

On April 14 2016, activists will be screening Earthlings at 13 locations across the UK and Ireland.

At each screening they will be offering audience members £5 to watch the film, as well as giving them free vegan goodies, emotional support and information about going vegan.

A crowdfunder has been set up to raise money to fund it.

It takes balls to check your balls.

This is the message from The Josh Carrick Foundation (JCF), who want to make sure no more men die of testicular cancer.

The survival rate for men with testicular cancer is one of the highest of all types of cancer with most going on to make a full recovery.

However, many men are uncomfortable examining their testicles – something that should be done on a monthly basis – and, if they notice anything wrong, are too embarrassed to go to a doctor.

A woman battling brain cancer is petitioning for more money to be spent on research after meeting dozens of people young and old in hospital with the disease when she had her tumour removed.

Emily Corrigan has already raised over 117,000 signatures for her petition ahead of her 3 February deadline, which means the petition will be considered in Parliament.

She spoke out about her own battle in a Facebook post which has now been shared more than 80,000 times.

With brain tumours killing more under-40s – including children – than any other cancer, Emily feels there should be more funding for research into treatment of the disease.

Emily was diagnosed with a brain tumour in July 2015 and, since then,  she has met many parents who have sadly lost children and parents who know they are going to die before they see their children grow up.

Posting a photo of her stitches after undergoing surgery to remove her brain tumour, Emily spoke of her experience on… Read the full story

Shoes off? Oh, okay (Picture: Frank Somerville/Facebook)

Even emotional support turkeys have to go through security.

If you’ve missed the whole turkey on a plane thing, apparently in America emotional support turkeys are a thing and, with prior agreement from the airline, passengers can fly with them for comfort and support.

But, what we hadn’t really appreciated is that this means the birds also have to go through check-in and security like everyone else.

That is, until KTVU journalist Frank Somerville shared a picture of a support turkey queuing up to go through security at San Francisco Airport earlier this week.

Proving a good sense of humour is the key to a successful marriage (Picture: Dan Tallman/Facebook)

Amanda Tallman is a woman after our own heart.

Instead of going for a schmaltzy romantic inscription on the inside of her husband Dan’s wedding ring, she opted for something a little more pragmatic.

When the couple from Michigan married five years ago, she presented her new husband with a not-so-subtle message on his wedding band.

And now she’s finally getting the recognition she deserves after a friend of the couple shared a picture of the tongue-in-cheek inscription, which reads ‘Put it back on’, on Reddit earlier this week.

From processions to food, it’s time to celebrate (Picture: Getty)

Monday, February 8, is Chinese New Year and 2016 celebrates the year of the monkey.

Be sure to celebrate by wearing red, lighting a firecracker or taking a punt in the casinos.

The monkey is quick-witted, manipulative and bores easily, so we can expect an exciting year of pranks and pyrotechnics ahead.

You’ll need the low-down to help you celebrate.

Here’s 20 great ways to celebrate Chinese New Year.

1. London’s Magical Lantern Festival

Head to London for a five-week festival comprising a spectacle of enormous lanterns which flash and interact with guests, a 60-metre dragon and a majestic Temple of Heaven.

2. Nelson Street, Liverpool

When you actually stop to think about it, and if we’re being entirely honest it’s not something that’s really troubled us until now, how do giraffes get water all the way up those long necks and into their stomachs?

While on sabbatical in Africa, physicist Philippe Bender was sat on a tour bus in Namibia’s Etosha National Park, when he spotted a giraffe trying to drink at a nearby watering hole.

‘I thought, “Wow, this is weird. Getting water up that long neck can’t be easy,”‘ he told Inside Science. So, being a curious type of person, he decided to investigate.

One day, we really hope to be as happy as this man.

He has turned himself into a human turkey, using just a light pink jumper, and he is genuinely thrilled about it.

Not only that, but he has shared the pictures of his transformation on Imgur so we can all dress as uncooked turkeys and be as happy as he is.

Imgur user spocrates posted a series of pictures of the magical transformation, from man to plucked bird yesterday, and we’re pretty sure this will be your go-to emergency fancy dress costume from now on.

Here he is, just a man, who is quite cold.

Go on, shove some glitter on your face. (Picture: Instagram/xengzulueta)

Just last week we were all excited about the rainbow freckles trend. FINALLY, we said. We can fulfill our freckle-faced dreams, and it won’t matter that they’re quite obviously fake. It was truly a wonderful time.

But as we’ve learned through many years of putting stuff on our face, beauty trends die fast.

Rainbow freckles? So last week. The new way to jazz up your face: glitter freckles.

It’s a great trend, really, because you get the colour and freckle-y effect of rainbow freckles, but with some extra sparkle. Perfect for festivals, parties, a trip to Tesco. Whatever.

The purpose of World Cancer Day is, simply, to get people talking about cancer.

You might think that with the recent deaths of David Bowie, Alan Rickman and Terry Wogan, all from cancer, that we’ve been talking about it a lot. But World Cancer Day is aimed at reminding us that cancer is a global issue, killing 8.2 million people every year – including, undoubtedly, at least one person close to everyone who is reading this post.

World Cancer Day launched in 2000 and is celebrated every year on 4th February. This year’s key message, #WeCanICan, reminds people that while cancer can have a very personal impact, it’s also… Read the full story

A comedian diagnosed with cervical cancer at just 24 has written a funny list about coping with the disease and, occasionally, using it to your advantage.

Like getting free flight upgrades, money off restaurant bills, and a little extra time off work.

Stand-up comedian Karen Hobbs from Clapham was diagnosed with stage 1b cervical cancer at the end of 2014.

She went to the doctors after suffering bleeding after sex and in-between periods. Despite only being 24 at the time, she was given a smear test because of her symptoms, during which the nurse noticed visual signs of… Read the full story

But now, if we’re going to start filing our internet applications for the next round of new additions to the Barbie collection, we have a suggestion: a Barbie who wears a hijab.

Making the case is Instagram account Hijarbie. The profile’s creator, Haneefah Adam, takes Barbie dolls and dresses them up in hijabs and abayas she hand-stitches herself in mini size.

Man’s greatest invention? (Picture: Geoff Kutnick/Food Beast)

Sometimes, people have ideas and they are terrible ideas – like melted cheese on ramen noodles. Don’t do that.

And other times, people have great ideas. Like pizza soup.

And this is the story of how pizza soup was born.

One day not so long ago, Food Beast co-founder Geoff Kutnick went to his favourite barber shop – El Catrin in California – just before lunchtime.

The staff were in the middle of a discussion about their lunch plans. Naturally.

Geoff’s hairdresser was craving soup, but the a colleague interjected with this suggestion: ‘Pizza? Pizza’s always good?’ And that was the lightbulb moment. Collectively, they turned to… Read the full story

Student Sherene Zarrabi is confident in how she looks. So while working at Dainty Hooligan, she was happy to pose in the boutique’s clothes and share the photos on the brand’s Instagram.

But for some reason, the owner of the company wasn’t so happy. When Jessica Issler saw the photos on the shop’s Instagram, she sent an email to Sherene’s manager to get them taken down.

Why? Because Jessica took issue with using someone wasn’t a ‘size small, the stereotypical “model”‘, on Dainty Hooligan’s social media.

There are around 11.9 million people living with disabilities in the UK right now.

When I was ten my dad was diagnosed with a neurological condition which affects around 100,000 people in the UK. My dad’s symptoms include fatigue and difficulties with walking.

Whilst it was tough for him and our family to go through, we had some damn good times and with this dramatic change, I grew up and learned lessons that many other children might not have.

Today is Time To Talk Day (Thursday, February 4) – a day organised by anti-stigma campaign Time To Change, run by mental health charities Mind and Rethink Mental Illness.

The aim of it is simple – to get as many people as possible across the country talking about mental health.

But, for many, talking about mental illness isn’t simple.

Unless you or a member of your family has a mental health condition you may not understand the stigma surrounding them.

So, as someone who is bipolar, let me try and help you.

A pair of artists spent three months restoring an old broken-down church bus they found on Craigslist, and turning it into a dreamy luxury RV.

Christopher Stoll and his girlfriend Tori from Texas now live on the bus permanently and travel around America together.

It’s the ultimate mobile home and artist studio.

The couple spotted the beaten up old 1988 church bus on Craigslist for the bargain price of $1,000 (£680) and couldn’t resist.

They set about transforming it into a proper home – and, four months on, Christopher shared the pictures of the renovation on Imgur.
