All eyes were on the red carpet outside The Dolby Theatre in LA, California, tonight, as the stars arrived for the 88th Academy Awards.

And before we got onto the main show (aka the three-hour prelude to Leo getting his Oscar), there was time to check out the best of Hollywood couture.

Alicia Vikander, up for Best Supporting Actress for The Danish Girl at this year’s Oscars, turned up on the red carpet looking like an actual princess.

She wore a yellow strapless gown by Louis Vuitton that was designed to fall in large pleats at the hem. She also wore her brown hair in a half ponytail.

In fact, she looked a lot like a certain Disney princess. And it didn’t take Twitter long to start drawing comparisons.

She was indeed the Belle of the ball.

It wasn’t just about the sequinned frocks on the red carpet. The guys had to get those tuxes fitted and shine those shoes as well.

But who wore it best?

As always, Pharrell Williams managed to get away with ignoring tradition and rolling up his tuxedo trousers; Jared Leto definitely did not, despite donning a rose instead of a bow-tie and going Gucci.

But, it was those that kept it classic – and golden boy… Read the full story

It was, we now realise, only really a matter of time before people started matching their hair colour to their favourite shade of denim.

Denim hair colour is the latest dye job taking over the internet, from slightly bleached, to full on acid wash.

And just like slipping on your favourite pair of boyfriend jeans, denim locks are soothing, calming and oh so cool.

When it’s done like this, double denim can never, ever be wrong.

You’ll never feel blue.

If mere mortals decided to dress like an actual Oscar at the Oscars, they’d no doubt fail miserably.

Particularly if there were sequins involved.

But, when Margot Robbie does it, somehow it just works.

Margot channelled Oscar himself on this year’s red carpet, with her gold sequinned snakeskin dress by Tom Ford (who else?), and she nailed it.

She teamed the look with a black tasseled clutch by The Row and huge Forevermark diamonds.

She looked like a golden goddess.

This year is a leap year which means, today (February 29), girls are ‘allowed’ to propose to their fellas.

And, while tradition dictates that men should be the ones doing the asking, this year, women can get in on the action and plan their own proposal.

So, if you’re thinking of popping the question, go for it.

Here are 12 reasons why you should propose to your boyfriend this leap year.

1. Who makes the rules?

Sure, ‘traditionally’ it is the man’s job to ask for a woman’s hand in marriage, but, did you know, it was way back in the fifth century that St Brigid of Kildare asked the patron Saint of Ireland’s permission… Read the full story

If you’ve ever idly wondered what it takes to reach the top in bodybuilding, well, be aware that it will cost you £2,000 a month in food alone.

After deciding to commit to bodybuilding full time two years ago, 32-year-old Melbourne bodybuilder Josh Lenartowicz spends between four and eight hours a day in the gym maintaining his 125 kg (19st 5lb) frame.

He also eats between six and 10 meals a day, some of which are so large, they can take around 30 minutes to finish. In a recent interview with ABC about his route to the top of this… Read the full story

Shalom inspires thousands with her makeup tutorials, after the was severely burnt at the age of 9 (Picture: YouTube)

Last year, beauty blogger NikkieTutorials posted a video called The Power of Makeup, where she only made up half her face. She did it in response to people who were implying there was something shameful in women enjoying putting on makeup.

Because they didn’t realise that makeup is also a way of expressing yourself. And that women don’t wear makeup because they feel ashamed, but because they enjoy it.

Since then, #ThePowerOfMakeup has become an Instagram trend, with other beauty bloggers only styling half their faces to show they aren’t scared of going makeup… Read the full story

A five-week-old duckling that sticks to her owner like glue has been causing quite a stir round Batley, West Yorkshire.

Clover, the little chick magnet, follows her owner Emma Stanworth to the park, to the local swimming pool, on the bus, and even to the local pub.

Their strong bond was formed after Emma, 21, saved Clover from almost dying at birth.

Poultry keeper Emma said: ‘We’ve been incubating some eggs and we did a fertility test and found one was a twin embryo. Clover’s twin died at four days old and we didn’t think she’d survive either, her health was poor and people even told… Read the full story

Of course how you do it is up to you (Picture: Getty)

According to tradition, February 29 is the one day when it’s okay for women to propose marriage.

If you do it on the other days crops will fail, cats will learn to talk and it’ll rain for 40 days, unless you’re in Scotland, where those things will happen anyway.

If you’re sure you’ve found The One, is it okay to ask for his or her hand in marriage?

Of course it is – but there’s no reason why you should do it today rather than any other. Here’s why.

Happy February 29th, a day where society has decided it’s the one time every four years where women get a say in marriage.

By that logic, it’s acceptable only 0.000685% of the time for women to ask men to marry them. And yet we find that a feel good story?

It leads to a special sort of groan I get to practice every February 29th.

And I suspect I’m not the only woman who shares this, what with all of these feel good articles about quadrennially empowered women finally able to propose to their beloved, if reluctant, partners.

Yay for them and their patience, all they’ve had to do is to hold on… Read the full story

Nicole Davies has been left feeling pretty annoyed after ordering some items for a surprise party she had been organising for her mother.

Worried she may not be there when they were delivered, she attempted to keep the delivery as secret as possible, to avoid her mother having any indication as to what was going on.

So, simply enough, she left the company some delivery instructions.

She asked for the box not to be made to look obvious as to what was inside, filling them in on the fact it was her mum’s birthday.

And, while it seems the company did take notice of the instructions – they didn’t bother to do anything with them.

Mohammed Ali is a young entrepreneur who launched his own computer game at the age of 12.

Having played pretty much every online game there is to play and quickly getting bored of completing other people’s games, he decided to make his own.

He began dedicating endless hours to YouTube tutorials and studying books on coding.

Mohammed told Metro.co.uk: ‘I used to play online games, a lot. In 2012, I really did get bored and thought thoroughly on how a game is made. The journey started in my bedroom, I watched YouTube videos to learn Java programming as that was the language that was required to develop the game.’
