Sydney’s Taronga Zoo just got a little cuter.

Last week Taronga Zoo welcomed some new additions: five baby sugartail gliders – a type of possum that can glide through the air.

The gliders were born through the zoo’s successful breeding program, which has welcomed two older joeys that are ready to leave the nest and explore the world, and three newborn joeys that are still blind and hairless. It’s the first time a zoo has successfully bred the little guys.

As someone who values their sleep above pretty much all else (except maybe food, specifically cheese), this tired mum has my deepest sympathies.

Rachel, aka Mumma McD, aka ‘a sweary mum of two preschoolers’, aged four and two, from Sydney, recently took to her parenting blog Toilets aren’t for Turtles, to list all the brilliant/infuriating reasons her two-year-old son gives her for not being asleep.

‘We are experiencing some intense sleep deprivation at the moment thanks to my two year old party animal, who has decided that sleep is a luxury we can all do without,’ she explains.

‘He is f*cking wrong’.

Stolen Gnome - Gnorman Watson
(Picture: Gnorman Watson/Facebook)

When Thomas Harold Watson had his beloved garden gnome stolen from him, he wasn’t prepared for the huge amount of torment that lay ahead.

‘Sure, it’s his property. He has every right to be upset about it, but c’mon, it’s just a gnome,’ you may be thinking.

And we did too. Before it turned ugly on social media.

Somebody has taken them upon themselves to name the gnome Gnorman Watson, and has been posting photos of Gnorman in pubs as well as private messaging Thomas with pictures of the gnome smoking cigarettes, just to taunt him.

Here he is enjoying a J20 with the boys.

Please. Someone adopt this cat so I don’t give in and seriously piss off my landlord.

Rory is a four-year-old domestic shorthair cat who was brought to Battersea Dogs & Cats Home when his owners became unable to care for him.

According to staff at Battersea, Rory is ‘timid at first’ but secretly very affectionate. He loves sleeping and playing with his feather waggler toy.

Oh, and he looks like a little vampire.

Invest in some nice bibs. They’ll be in all your baby pics (Picture: Getty)

As the saying goes, some things are sent to try us.

Life with a newborn is never easy and it seems every parent gets at least one additional problem to add to the mix.

Some mums struggle with breastfeeding, others have the misery of colic to contend with.

For me and my daughter, reflux was the issue. For the uninitiated, that’s when your baby throws up. All. Of. The. Time.

Having a ‘sickie baby’ doesn’t mean they are ill, it is just a baby passively ‘spitting up’ whatever they have just swallowed, possibly  due to baby’s underdeveloped oesophagus.

If you’re currently caring for a reflux… Read the full story

Does Heaven await you? (Picture: Getty)

Sure, you know you’re not perfect. You’ve done some stuff.

But how much of a sinner are you, really?

According to a massive sign by a preacher in Manchester, pretty much all of us are doomed to an afterlife far outside the pearly gates.

The preacher has warned that anyone guilty of these severe crimes against morals – including feminism, masturbating, and gangster rapping – ‘WILL NOT INHERENT GOD’S KINGDOM.’

It’s in all capitals, so you know it’s true.

Introducing the Dog Parker (Picture: Dog Parker/YouTube)

There are now boxes you can leave your dog in while you shop on the streets of New York.

We can’t decide if it’s a good idea – it does prevent dog-napping and it does have a hot pink comfy bed inside – or like sending your poor pet to doggy jail.

The Dog Parker safe box was created to offer an alternative to dog owners who want to take their pooch with them when they pop to the shops, rather than leaving them alone in doors, but are worried about just tying them up outside shops.

Founder Chelsea Brownridge came up with the idea because… Read the full story

Finally, the world has got on board with the Hobbit way of eating (there are seven daily Hobbit meals, if you’re not in the know).

Science has confirmed that having two breakfasts isn’t such a bad idea (H/T The Cut).

A new study published in the journal of Pediatric Obesity reveals that having two breakfasts is a healthier option than skipping breakfast entirely – and it’ll actually make you put on less weight than you would by skipping your first meal.

Think about it, what’s something everybody understands but nobody can explain?

It’s a little hard, right? Because how are you meant to show your understanding without explaining it?

If you’re not already feeling confused, these suggestions will leave you scratching your head.

Reddit user Circle_Breaker asked the question: ‘What is something that nobody can explain but everyone understands?‘ and hundreds of replies came flooded in.

We’ve picked out the best ones, to see just how many people really do understand these un-explainable things.

This watch is for when you’re feeling a bit peckish, but not hungry enough for a full meal. Or even a light snack. You’re really just on the very edges of hunger, looking in.

Yep, someone’s created a watch that doubles up as a teeny tiny lunchbox.

It’s really small though, so you won’t be able to pack a sandwich in there. Japanese company Takii hired surgeons to slice up a lunch and delicately place it inside the face of a watch.

Skye is a rescue dog who spent the first couple of months of her life being abused by local shopkeepers after her family was run over by a passing vehicle.

She was adopted when three months old by 13-year-old Shai Diwan.

Shai wanted to give Skye a better life, and felt she could give more to a rescue dog than any other pet.

Now, a little over a year old, Skye is thriving in the limelight, having become the star of her own Instagram account.

‘She likes the camera and the attention,’ Skye told Mashable.

‘She was abused and didn’t get a lot of attention in the first few months of her life. You can see in the photos that [now] she’s a little satisfied.’

Shai has been uploading photos of Skye in various outfits, with the funniest captions beside them. She hopes to spread the message that street dogs are still cute, lovely animals and that they shouldn’t be… Read the full story

There aren’t many things cuter than puppies and kittens. But these baby foxes may have just pipped both to the cuteness finish line.

Smithsonian’s National Zoo welcomed two newborn fennec foxes back in February. Staff named them Teddy – short for Theodore – and Hokees – Armenian for ‘my love’.

For the first few weeks of their life Teddy and Hokees have to be bottle fed by hand every two hours. This means a lot of work for workers at the zoo, but also loads of pictures and videos that might actually be too adorable to handle.

Seph Lawless abandoned Disney park
(Picture: Seph Lawless)

In 1976, Disney River Country opened as Walt Disney World’s first water park.

Then, in 2001, Disney shut down the park for what they said at the time was for ‘maintenance’. But, in 2005 it was announced that the park would be permanently closed, never to open its gates again, after a young boy sadly died due to an infection contracted at the park.

Along with Discovery Island, it is one of only two Disney parks to have ever closed for good. Both parks have been abandoned, never to see a child’s joyous smile again.

Next month will mark 40 years since the park opened and photographer Seph… Read the full story
